I think that jonas and gabriel made it to elsewhere b.c in the book it said that "he thought he heard music" and i don't think that u can hear music when ur dead and we don't even know what it feels like to be dead so how do we know that he is dead.
I think that Jonas and Gabriel survive because in the second to last paragraph of page 225 it states, "For the first time, he heard something that he knew to be music." This proves that he could hear music so he couldn't be dead. Lois Lowry also doesn't give any interpretation that Jonas and or Gabriel died. These statements prove why I think Jonas and Gabriel did not die.
I think that jonas and gabriel survive because in the book it says "he heard something that he knew to be music he heard people to be singing. behind him, across vast distances of space and time from the place he had left, he thought he heard music too, but perhaps it was only an echo." And before on the last paragraph on page 224 it said "Jonas felt himself losing consciousness." which it does not show us evidence that he dies or survives so I debate based on what I think, and I think he survived.
I think Jonas and Gabriel survive because once they got to Elsewhere, there was joy and people were singing. According to the book, The Giver, at page 225, the quote says, "Downward, downward, faster and faster. Suddenly he was aware with certainty and joy that below, ahead, they were waiting for him; and that they were waiting, too, for the baby." And, " For the first time, he heard something that he knew to be music, he heard people singing." This talks about more on the release of the baby, but it also talks more about joy, and they were waiting for them. They thought it was an echo.
In my opinion I think Jonas and Gabriel survived. I think this because In the Giver it says "he forced himself to open his eyes as they went downward and downward sliding and all at once he could see lights and he recognized them now." Jonas and Gabriel could also feel the wind in there face and you can not feel anything when you are dead. This is showing Jonas and Gabriel almost to their destination.
I think jonas and Gabe survived because at the end they were sledding down the hill and maybe they stopped and left the weird town and recognized the lights and hallucinations and hallucinations are most likely fake
