I think they survived because it says on page 225 behind him, across vast distances of space and time he heard music. i think he heard music coming from somewhere outside the community and he went there.
Jonas and Gabriel are definitely alive and they aren't hallucinating. I know this because Jonas sees lights and he hears music. If he was hallucinating, he wouldn't hear music because he doesn't have it as a memory from The Giver. Also, the singing Jonas hears behind him and Gabriel is probably the community Jonas and Gabriel left singing. They now know what music is because they got the memory from The Giver, and he is helping them take all the memories in, so they could become whole again.
I think that Jonas and Gabe survived because Jonas said that he knew the people were waiting for him and Gabe and that makes me think that the people interact with Gabe and Jonas . Jonas was also happy which I think he wouldn't be happy if Gabe died so I think both of them survived because the only options were that both of them survived or both of them died .
I believe that Jonas and Gabriel survived because on page 224, in the second paragraph, it says that "The wind was bitterly cold. The snow swirled, blurring his vision. But somewhere ahead, through the blinding storm, he knew there was warmth and light." I think this demonstrates that he was seeing the community further up ahead of him and that's where the light was emerging from. It's also been proved that when people start to starve, they start having hallucinations and begin to be very confused. This could mean that he started seeing a sled and a hill and this unremarkable snow storm even if it didn't even exist. To prove my theory even further, on page 225, it says "they were waiting for him; and that they were waiting, too, for the baby. For the first time, he heard something that he knew to be music." this shows that maybe he was hearing music coming from the community. It's also possible it was just another one of his vivid hallucinations. Either way, I think Jonas and Gabriel would obviously die at some period of time but the way this book ends makes it feel like their time isn't up just yet and maybe they somehow managed to survive after all.
