  1. The Black Plague was one of the deadliest plagues in history and wreaked havoc across all of Europe. The plague killed about 33 percent of the European population and ended tens of millions of lives. In October 1347 at the port of Messina in Sicily, southern Italy, the black death arrived. It took only four years for it to sweep across the entire continent. The plague disappeared and came back on and off for almost 400 years from 1347 to 1720. Sometimes the plague could be avoided or lessened, like in 1578 when Queen Elizabeth brought out detailed orders to stop the spread of the plague. The lesson of this terrible tragedy is that guidelines must be put into place to prevent catastrophes.

  2. The way you are raised and the household you live and grow up in greatly impacts the way you turn out as an adult. Take for example someone known as the most prolific serial killer in history, Samuel McDowell or better known as Samuel Little, Samuel was born while his mother was in jail. He grew up with only his grandmother who died when little was 15 years old, his father left him at the age of 5 and his mother was left right as he was born. With all of these incidents It is easy to see how little would grow up to be one of the most danerous men in history, but even as a teenager little was still committing crimes. Like how he was sent to a juvenile detention center 3 times, or how he arrested 25 times in 11 states before he was finaly caught. Surely with all of these things that happened to him as a child it is easy to see how little would grow up to become one of the most feared man in all of the century

  3. The bombing of Pearl Harbor was a major event in American history. Pearl Harbor was a U.S. naval base located in Honolulu, Hawaii. On December 7th 1941 Japan bombed Pearl Harbor, they killed 2403 Americans and injured 1000 Americans that day. Around 8 am the day Pearl Harbor was attacked, Japanese planes filled the sky. These could have been used as a warning sign to get people out of Pearl Harbor to save more people from being injured or killed. The lesson is to never let your guard down. Ignoring warning signs even if they are very small warning signs can end up with bigger consequences.

  4. In 1980 John Lennon, the famous Beatles member was shot four times and died at the hospital later that night. It was just after five o’clock, as John and Yoko were coming back to their hotel. In the doorway, waiting for John Lennon, was Mark Chapman. Mark Chapman was a crazed fan, who has followed Lennon around the country, trying to kill him off. This was his second attempt at killing John Lennon, the first attempt he didn't go through with. Mark Chapman came up to John earlier in the day, but only to ask for his autograph. Going back to John and Yoko walking into the hotel, Mark already knew what was coming for him. Mark fired his gun five times, and missed one of the bullets. Jose the doorman disarmed Mark, while Lennon informed the hotel worker that he had been shot. You would think Mark Chapman would want to get away, but he sat down and waited for the police to come. When the police arrived, Mark Chapman was calm and got taken away easily. Mark was sentenced 20 years to life in prison, and got what he deserved. I think a lesson you can learn from this, is to never do something you know is bad, because it will always come back to you in the end.

  5. The Trojan War was a mythical conflict between the Greeks and the Trojans around the 13th century BC. The reason for this is that they were both fighting over Hellen, who was Mellunelles wife. One fact is that Mellunelles had a child with his wife Hellean, and a slave. Some say that he even had more children with other slaves and that he had to sacrifice his own daughter to Artemis, the goddess of the hunt . The second one was that two hundred men were killed in the war and that when the Trojans won the war they massacred the Greeks when they got inside the walls. The lesson of this story is that dont take the things people love, especially royalty. People are willing to go to war over the things they truly love.

  6. The Great Depression started in 1929 and ended in 1939 at the start of WWII. The Great Depression started in a mild recession. The stock prices continued to go up. Prices reached massive levels which could not be justified by earnings. People were buying stocks higher than their value (value had dropped by 50%), and investors who bought the stocks using borrowed money were wiped out. By 1933, there were around 13,000,000 unemployed people. ⅓ of the nation’s banks had failed, and citizens lost most savings because of the failing banks. Unemployment rate was over 25% at its highest. A lesson that can be learned from this is don’t try to trick people. The Great Depression started because the stocks sold higher than they were worth, effectively tricking people into buying overpriced stocks.

  7. Millions of bodies lay dead. You are trying to make sure you and your family are safe from this scandalous disease. Also known as the Bubonic plague. The year is 1348, you find yourself praying to God for his forgiveness. Just like many other people, you think this disease was sent by God as a punishment from sin. You start to remember when the pledge first arrived. When you saw 12 ships coming in from the black sea, many of the sailors were found dead, weak, or ill. Boils were found on the skin. Some were as big as an egg, others as small as peas. These boils were mainly located in the abdomen or armpits. You might have even encountered old blood someone had coughed up. Once you get a bloody cough, it's over. Your dead body will join the millions of other body’s struck by the plague. You also might have encountered plague doctors. Their mask filled with herbs and flowers, due to the thought of bad air. Many people assumed the plague was spread by inhaling bad air. As I look back at what a major illness was in the middle ages, compared to what it would look like in the 21st century it blows my mind. A lesson I think can be learned is that when you think something is wrong you should take precautions. For example when people saw that the plague had struck they started to take precautions. One of the precautions they took was praying for God's forgiveness due to the thought that the disease was sent by God as a punishment for sin. Another Precaution that people took was using herbs and flowers to prevent bad air. Even though that is not how the disease was spread they still took the precaution.

  8. On December 23, 1893, one of the most infamous rulers was born. Mao Zedong. The man who is responsible for 40-80 million deaths was a harmless little baby; until he joined the red army. Mao grew up in a family that was well off, they owned a rice farm and had a nice house in the Hunan province of China. He was educated (Which is better than most of China at this time) and it was then he learned about Confucianism and Legalism which shaped his world view. After the final empire (Qing Empire) was abolished China was in good hands, or so we thought. Their ruler Yuan Shikai turned into a dictator. Sun Yet-Sen was responsible for overthrowing this dictatorship and inadvertently setting off the warlord period, which was a time when China was divided and had warlords around the country. During the warlord period, Mao learned of Marxism (the teachings of Karl Marx) and the Communist Manifesto. And the first meeting of the CCP (Chinese Communist Party) met in Shanghai in 1921. They had to face the Kuomintang (another army in China) and eventually persisted in "The Long March" a 6,000-mile march through China that killed thousands of soldiers. During WWII The Kuomintang and the Red Army tag teamed to fight the Axis Powers such as Italy, Japan, and Germany. But in 1949 the CCP took power over China and Mao was the president until 1954 when he was succeeded by Deng Xiaoping. Mao has taught many lessons, but none more important than his persistence during "The Long March" and all of his major battles. He persisted through famine and drought He has shown us how we can all persevere.

  9. In 1955 a very important, and long, era started for Americans, the vietnam war. Over 2.2 million Americans were drafted into the war causing chaos through the US. Fast forward a few years, February 1965 a group of people called hippies already started advocating against the war, starting Antiwar protests at colleges throughout the day and even through the night. The hippies started gaining more and more support after the US made bombings in North Vietnam a regular occurrence. Suddenly almost every American began to gang up on the US troops and protest all across the country. They were mad because they thought the mainstream authority was the origin of all society's ills, including war. They agreed they were sick of the 20 year long war and that the US has been through this before and needed to learn. After almost ten years of fighting the Vietnam war officially ended due to a peace signing in Paris. The Anti-war protesters were beyond happy to hear that their family, friends, and neighbors were able to come home.

  10. The Incas were a very advanced and powerful civilization in South America before being overthrown by Spain. They lived in the Andes Mountains of South America and in their time of living, they created advanced farming technology and other things that helped them adapt to their surroundings. An example of a brilliant invention of the Incas was a type of farming called terrace farming. The Incas faced a disadvantage in agriculture due to a difficult rainy season. Because of this, they created terrace farming. This kind of farming filtered out unwanted water that came with living in the Andes through layers of rock, gravel, sand, and dirt. This shows how the Incas were an advanced civilization that knew their terrain well. During the Age of Exploration, a Spanish conquistador named Francisco Pizarro traveled to Peru. After hearing about the riches of the Incas, he asked Spain for permission to try to take the land for Spain. Pizarro was given permission and entered the city of Cajamarca in 1532 where he met King Atahualpa. Although previously agreeing not to be violent, he killed king Atahualpa in 1533. This death marked a great loss for the Inca civilization as it was followed by a war and the eventual overthrowing of the Incas by Spain. This teaches a lesson that even a supreme power with knowledge and experience can be overthrown.

  11. World war 2 was one of the biggest wars in history and lasted about 6 years. The war started in September of 1939 with Germany invading Poland, and Great Britain and France declaring war on Germany. Nazis and many people were antisemitism. As time passed Nazis treated Jewish people worse and worse. Many Jews went into hiding in fear of their lives from the Nazis. Lots of Jews lived in Ghettos. Jews that went into hiding often had to move from place to place. Many lived in attics, barns, chicken coops, cellars, etc. Others pretended to be christians and had to hide their identity from their classmates to the police. People who lived in Ghettos starved of hunger and became very weak, sometimes to the extent of not being able to even move. Some alliances would smuggle food into Ghettos for the starving. Concentration/Extermination Camps were made. Thousands of Jews were forced into trains and sent to their death. Death squads were also invented, killing thousands of jews. The war ended with Germany’s surrender in May of 1945 due to Adolf Hitler's suicide. Whether they went into hiding, starved in Ghettos, got sent to camps, and all of the other terrifying things they had to live in and overcome, all jews fought for their rights.

  12. The lesson we can learn from this event is that we should try to prepare and be aware of things from history that might resurface again. This virus was said to be like the 2002-2004 SARS outbreak yet not enough was done in the first days to stop it. Less than one month (21 days) after the inciting incident there were already 40 cases but as the days ticked on not enough was done to prevent the outbreak. We could have learned from past outbreaks and we definitely should learn from this one. Another problem was that at first the genes for the new virus were only given to the Chinese disease center when sharing it with the world would have gotten faster results.

  13. Unity holds empires together, it enables people to achieve far more appreciable things than they could do on their own. The western Roman empire fell because of one main reason, unity. The people of the city-state were not united in their morals, work ethic, and politically anymore. Rome used to have one of the deadliest, and disciplined military in all of ancient Europe. But nearing the time period the empire started to fail, their military had weakened; they could no longer recruit enough men to fight, so Roman officials started to hire foreign mercenaries. The Roman legions started to fill with Germanic soldiers; although these soldiers were fierce warriors, they had no loyalty to Roman officials, so many turned against them. Roman citizens and government officials started to become lazy, they wanted everything to be done and ready for them. They had lost their work ethic as a whole, so they heavily relied on slave labor. They depended on slaves to work their fields and work as craftsmen. But when there weren't enough slaves to keep up with the work that needed to be done, the economy started to collapse. All great nations have failed because their citizens and government weren’t united, ancient Rome especially because they didn’t work together anymore. They started to expect everything to be done for them by others; when they stopped being a united whole especially in their work ethic, the Western empire started to fall apart and collapse.

  14. The Influenza Pandemic of 1920 was probably the worst our history has ever seen. Why? Well, if you think about it, it’s basically a silent killer. The victims of this virus just believe it is the flu, but like every other pandemic the world experienced before(In the time period of 1620’s-1920’s.) It isn’t “Just the flu”. This Orthomyxoviridae virus (acute respiratory infection) slowly creeps into your lungs letting you know your life's on the line, but you wouldn’t know that till its too late. This virus had three different waves, you may think scientists had time to figure out a cure in between those waves; but they didn’t. If you were a scientist you probably wouldn’t want to experiment and cure a virus that is killing ⅓ of this world's population, you would probably quarantine. That is what the majority of them did. Even the majority who didn’t still couldn’t find a cure. Not only did they didn’t have a cure, they didn’t have a vaccine, an antibiotic, or anything. Due to this you had little kids dying at just 3-5 years old that shouldn’t be able to happen, but nobody could stop it. The lesson for this summary, is that if the world wants us viruses to kill millions of people; We need more precaution, for example some way to use precaution could be limiting family gathering, like Birthday Parties, Holidays, or anything evolving physical contact. Not only that, people need to be more hygienic, clean your bedsheets, clean yourself better than ever before.

It happened at Griffin's Wharf in Boston where colonists dumped 342 crates of tea into the harbor. The Boston Tea Party was led by the Sons of Liberty. The Sons of Liberty regularly protested the new taxes that King George III set in place.Hierarchy will always fail because you cannot take people's rights away from them or they will always find a way to get them back. The reason why the Boston Tea Party even took place is because the Sons of Liberty were fed up with Britain changing and making a bunch of new taxes.

  18. The Stonewall Riots lasted for 6 days, but the impact on society is still in effect today. These 6 important days in history, leading to the LGBT revolution, teach us that if no one’s hurting anyone, leave them be. The Stonewall Riots happened after centuries of built-up tension and resentment, and more recently, secret organizations standing up to society, only to be denied peace and equality. On June 27, 1969, a police raid was conducted on the Stonewall Inn, a gay bar, and no one can say the true cause of the spark that made the patrons fight back, but they did, viciously. The police were surprised and not ready to be stood up to. They beat and arrested a lot of people during those 6 days. But the people didn’t stop fighting. The police arrested women, men, teens, and anyone that was participating in the Riot. A specific woman fought so hard that she is now known as the Stonewall Lesbian. This whole time period in history proves that if we try to oppress and hate, the shunned party will try to rise, and sometimes succeed. We should leave them alone because if society hadn’t actively shunned gay people and let them live their life, The LGBT revolution wouldn’t have had to… revolt, and in turn, the Stonewall Riots never would have happened, and the trauma, deaths, and property damage could have been prevented. But instead, society called it weird and unnatural, so the revolution happened, Stonewall happened, and the prejudice can still be felt today in parts of the US.

  19. The First Thanksgiving is a well known time in history for being the first Thanksgiving to what is now a holiday on the fourth Thursday of November. However, it didn’t remain as peaceful as some would imagine. On September 6, 1620, the Mayflower set sail, containing 102 Puritans. The weather caused the ship to land 220 miles (354 kilometers) north from the original destination, Northern Virginia, in Massachusetts. It was winter, the Puritans were low on food, and it was too late for planting. Over half of them died from disease and hunger, and this time was called “Starving Time.” Later, in March 1621, Massasoit (the chief of the Wampanoag) and Tisquantum (his translator, also known as Squanto) met the Puritans. Squanto taught the Puritans survival skills, as he was one of the few Wampanoags who knew how to speak English. At harvest time in 1621, the Puritans went to fire with a musket for ducks and wild birds. 90 Wampanoags came to the settlement from hearing the gunshots, and as a result joined in on the harvest celebration. The feast lasted 3 days. The Puritans and the Wampanoags made a treaty with one another. However, the peace didn’t last long. The Wampanoag Nation was fighting with the Narragansett Nation, but the Wampanoags were greatly outnumbered, so they gave help to the Puritans in exchange for weapons. As more Europeans arrived, the Wampanoags and Europeans began to have hostilities with one another. The colonists believed the Native Americans’ land was theirs and forced the Native Americans out as the colonists took more and more land. In 1675, the Wampanoag and colonists had a war. It was called King Philip's War, and it ended in 1678. Thousands of natives and hundreds of colonists died from the war. The Wampanoags helped the Puritans colonize by teaching them survival skills and letting them use their land. However, the colonists continued to take from the Wampanoags and treat them negatively, and it resulted in war. Be careful of the people you choose to trust because not everyone will remain loyal.

    1. The main conflict could be the colonists believing that the land of the wampanoags was theirs.

  26. Super Bowl 42 was one of the biggest events in American football history. If you don't know what the New York Giants are, they are a football team for the NFL which stands for National Football League. They won against New England Patriots which no one expected the New York Giants to win because they were the underdogs. Somehow they made it through and Eli Manning was the quarterback. He set plenty of records in that game! For example, Eli set an NFL record with 15 4th quarter touchdown passes. Lesson never underestimate the Underdog
