Did you know 17% of children are obese? Childhood obesity has quadrupled over the past forty years and is a ongoing problem. according to PHA "children with weight issues are more likely to miss school or repeat a grade than children who are at a healthy weight." People that are obese don't live a full and healthy life. So kids should go play a sport when they come home not play video games and eat doritos all day.

School cafeterias should offer healthier food because the research shows that students would then eat more and waste less. Each additional fruit option in school cafeterias leads to a 9.3% increase in total fruit servings that students eat. Plus, offering more fruits and vegetables at schools leads to better nutrition for students. According to Lori Spruance, “Children and adolescents in the United States do not consume the nationally recommended levels of fruits and vegetables. Evidence suggests that salad bars in schools can make a big difference.”Schools can improve nutrition by serving more fruits and vegetables.

There are many reasons as to why junk food is a good thing for schools to keep in cafeterias. Many people, especially kids, are very picky with the foods that they like. These kids shouldn't be forced to eat what they don't like, even if it's healthy. Kids who are given foods they don't like are more likely to waste it or skip meals, which is also very unhealthy for them. Also, vending machines in cafeterias are very profitable for schools, considering the amount of kids that use them daily. Schools and students are better off with foods that they like, and will actually eat, instead of healthy foods that nobody enjoys.
DeleteWhile I understand your point, School cafeterias offering healthier foods could lead to serious issues including bankruptcy of the school due to lack of students buying lunch due to the new food items, an increase in the amount of money the school has to spend on lunches. According to archiveboston.com, "the problem, they say, is that fewer kids are buying the lunches since the changes.". this shows that schools are going to make less money when they give out healthier lunches.
DeletePeople that are refusing to follow COVID-19 guidelines should consider following them. this is because Officials in both the US and Germany claim that the latest COVID-19 surge is caused by people completely ignoring social distancing rules. In Europe officials are saying young adults hanging out together deserve the blame for the most recent spike. "In the current crisis all it takes is a few people to flaunt the rules to put entire communities at risk of infection" said Jocelyn J Bèlanger co-owner of Psychology corona study. A study by the Psychology corona study found that someone with a stronger trust in their government is more willing to make personal sacrifices to help protect those at risk. Covid 19 is real but its not as bad as people think. It has made families come together. Now there are people with family time. This is very good because there are less fights and siblings can come together and are nicer.
DeleteThink about how gossip can affect someone's life in a negative way. It can lead to depression, suicide, a bad reputation, and some trouble. According to Sophia Gottfried "Just a small portion of the conversations analyzed — around 15% — was deemed negative gossip". Why would you gossip about someone? Is it fun for you? People gossip because they feel like it's entertaining! They make up stories to be more popular. They don't know they are ruining other people's lives, and also theirs. It always will come back to them in a bad way. When you gossip it will become a bad habit. If you start to gossip in every conversation, it's going to become a cycle and you won't be able to stop it. According to All Womens Talk "Naturally, people will become bored and disinterested in what you have to say". Your friends will start to question you and think you're the real problem.

Climate change, more fun in the sun, right? If only it made positive impacts in our lives. People are not aware of the climate crisis. Your favorite places are being affected. The dead sea will take on it's name if we continue to procrastinate. Key West, Florida. Venice Italy. Alaska. Antarctica, The great wall of China, The Grand Canyon, Greenland, The Maldives, and the Amazon River. Climate change is not real. Climate change hasn't affected me in any way whatsoever. Even if it is real it would only result in less winter deaths as there would be shorter winters. And a better climate for crops to grow.
DeleteEarth's climate is altered by natural causes such as volcanic eruptions, ocean currents, the Earth's orbital changes, solar variations, and internal variability. These causes are all events that humans did not create, so it is therefore not our job to solve them.

KG14, If Climate change did not exist, we wouldn't have had thousands of animal species go extinct, or sea level rise. Just because you cannot feel the changes, does not apply to everyone. Many places have gotten destroyed, and more to come. You can see and feel like changes. Look at the news, or read articles. This is a huge issue people fail to see.
DeleteCryptocurrencies are the future of society. The interest in crypto lately has skyrocketed. Head of global development at Gemini Dave Abner has stated, "We've been a tremendous amount of inflow of attention, and that's going to continue to drive the growth of the industry for a while now". The most popular cryptocurrency Bitcoin is setting new highs as of late. Big interest has been shown by U.S officials. Crypto is going to drive society's future.

DeleteHow would you feel if suddenly you were swept away from your family and shipped across the country for the entertainment of others? This is a big issue that happens to animals on a daily. They are forced to live and be in a place unnatural from their own. Captivity is one of the biggest issues. The zoo's habitat for them is proven to be 100 times smaller than their natural habitat. Animals don’t have the right to roam so it might cause them mental health problems like depression or anxiety. Animals also suffer from minimum standard care for example an unnatural environment and poor conditions. Animals are also being abducted from their homes and families which can cause them debilitating health problems. Zoos tend to take advantage of animals and people. People may think animals taken in are sick and injured but most of the animals are not endangered and perfectly fine in the wild. Zoo’s taking advantage of animals needs to come to an end.
ReplyDeletehttps://www.peta.org.uk/blog/9-reasons-not-to-visit-zoos/
Zoos are good for the reason of them able to preserve very endangered animals. Zoos are the reason pandas and other animals that are close to extinction exist. Another reason is that zoos can help educate the public. They can also do scientific research they might not be able to do without them in the zoo. Zoos can extend animal life spans because they don't need to look for food. As a plus the animals can't be hunted by poachers.
DeleteZoos can be beneficial to animals because some animals may have been abandoned at birth by their mothers. These animals would need a stable habitat to live in and would need to be provided with food and water. Scientists can also do testing on animals in captivity and help develop new medications for the animals. In zoos, animals can start families so that they don’t face extinction.
DeleteUntil the 1800s, billions of passenger pigeons soared above the skies. They darkened the skies in spectacular flocks. Easy to shoot, passenger pigeons became one of the hundreds of extinct species. Animals that have gone extinct over the years include the dodo bird, the labrador duck, steller’s sea cow, tasmanian wolf, golden toad, and so many more innocent animals. Recent studies show that around 1 species per year goes extinct. And the extinction rate is continuing to increase. We have only ourselves to blame for this, because we cut down forests that once belonged to animals. Fortunately, people can “reverse” extinction using genetic engineering, by creating an organism from DNA. Animal extinction should be stopped, so do your best to preserve the wonders of life.

DeleteDo you ever sit in your school wishing you were home? For many girls they wish the opposite, to be at school. Last fall Parisa a girl from Afgainistan told the NY times "woman are half of our society - their role is important in all parts of life." she said "But the Taliban are not speaking to woman." Girls are scared to go to school, they fear the Taliban may be cruel or harsh to any women or girls who try to go to school. Without education girls can't get a good job, and many don't see a future for themselves. "I like to study at home" Zayba a school aged girl from Afgainistain told the NY times last fall. "I am trying to, but I can't , because I don't see any future for myself with this regime." This is a big problem we as a world need to deal with.

You know you should stop, but it's so hard with all the stress around you and food seems like your only friend; well this is the reality for many children whether you notice it or not. You might’ve thought that children who are obese are only obese because they always eat to much. That they had 0 self discipline and just ate their entire childhood away, well you’d be wrong. Child obesity isn’t just a physical problem, it’s often a mentality problem as well. Obesity is one of the most common reasons to get bullied in school, of course this isn’t going to just immediately fix the problem; it can actually worsen it. Eating disorders effect at least 5% of females and many males; many of those cases come from the obese population, and a lot of these eating habits sprout from bullying from an early age due to their obesity. Not only do these kids have to hear this at school, but some have to go home and hear stuff from their parents whether it's directed towards them or towards each other; all this stress can cause even more overeating. Of course this isn't the case for every overweight kid but nonetheless, you shouldn't judge them because you never know what's going on that you can't see.
ReplyDeleteMickstick argues that bullying is causing obesity. My argument against this is that the indulgence of parents is causing obesity among children. Datum from Live Science says that "Researchers found adolescents are more likely to eat at least five servings of fruits and vegetables a day if their parents do. Contrarily, teens whose parents eat fast food or drink soda are more likely to do the same.” New research suggests obesity can also be inherited if your parents were obese or still obese at a young age. Which could affect your chances of becoming obese. My argument against obesity addresses that obesity isn't only caused by external forces, but also genetics and family life
DeleteDoes 17 million people missing a day of work the day after a football game sound like a lot? Well that's because it is. That's more people than expected, and the numbers should rise more and more every year. 6 million people dont call in to let people know that they don't because they don't want to have a awkward conversation with their boss saying how they don't want to go to go to work the day after the football game. But the real problem with the people not showing up is that its hurting the companies. Why? because some companies need workers to show up to make money.

DeleteIt is mostly important for people to have breaks. The reason people skip a day of work after a football game is because they would have too stressed or too tired for a day of work. They'd need to "recharge" for a day of work, and their boss should have expected it! What would happen to the world if you don't earn 1,000 dollars for one day? It's not like the world would explode! 60% of people don't get enough rest, so it is necessary for people to get enough rest.
DeleteAnd so, this is the end of my debate.
Have you seen a friend, family member, or a person out in the public smoke, vape or use any other nicotine or tobacco products? Were they in good health mentally and physically? The most common answer is that they at least have a severe addiction. But that addiction has an impact that affects you and even the planet as 45,000 kg of toxic waste comes from the result of cigarette manufacture. Tobacco and nicotine takes approximately 450,000 lives every year, Tobacco and nicotine products are known for being a terror to yourselves and others, and should be banned.

If our planet gets to 4 degrees celcius, we will be extinct. Rising sea levels can threaten our freshwater supplies. ReplyDeleteAlthough I do agree that a portion of climate change is caused by humans, research shows that human generated greenhouse gas emissions are too small to substantially change the earth's climate and that the planet is capable of absorbing those increases. A decent amount of climate change is caused by natural causes, and the earth has been warming up for thousands of years. So although the planet is warming up much faster than it should be, natural causes would have brought us to this point anyways. The planet earth was still warming up years before we came into play.

One person who is concerned about homelessness is Anthony Love who is an interim executive director at the United States Interagency Council on Homelessness. Anthony claims "Right now we are trending in the wrong direction.“ What he meant by this is that homelessness is still an issue that is occuring right now. From 2007-2022 rates of individual homelessness has dropped by 1%, and in that same period of time rates of overall homelessness has dropped by 10%. Some locations are trying to help by giving money. 34.8 billion tons. That's how much CO2 enters the same atomosphere we breathe every year. Not only is this invisible gas toxic to all life that breathes air, but it is heating our globe. 40 years ago the world was 2 degrees Fahrenheit cooler than it is now. 2 degrees might not sound like a lot but if we don't do anything to stop this invible threat then 2 turns to 4, and then to 6, and then to 8 and so on. Maybe you like the heat, but anyone up north and on the seashores won't anymore. As the heat of our planet rises ice and snow will melt, and coastal societies will suffer. There will also be more heatwaves and droughts that last longer than normal. Alternitive sources of energy already exist like solar power of wind power. DeleteHave you ever thought of how bullying could affect you? Many students suffer from depression, thoughts of suicide, and loss of appetite. Don't think that was it; there is way more than just that. The three main types of bullying that cause these things are cyber, physical, and gossiping. Here are some signs you can spot these bullies. Outgoing and aggressive people are most likely to be physical bullies. Quiet and sneaky people gossip about others. Last but not least are the friendly and fake people they basically act as a friend but betray you. So think again about how bullying can affect others.

DeleteHave you ever seen a commercial for your favorite skin care brand and think its magically good for our skin? Well no, its actually not... Many of our favorite companies test their fragrances, skincare products, and makeup on animals. More than 115 million animals worldwide are tested in one year. Why these companies do it? Well they obviously cant test products on humans just incase something bad happens, so they pick the next alternative animals. These scientist test their products on animals skin, and look at the samples and compare what it did to the animals to the humans skin. They also find out what diseases or other things can happen to humans skin. These surgeries can cause major shock to the animals and life long injuries. Even though the scientists do recovery surgeries, the animals can have life long injuries or even death. For example “ football games draw the biggest crowd, filling the student section with students, parents, teachers and other members of the community” Lightsey said. In the article “Sexist divide at sporting events” It is unfair to the girls that boys get more students, fans, community members at the boy games. It is harder for the girls to get students at the games because people believe that boys sport games are more fun to watch, because boys are "faster" Boys also get better transportation to games because of their equipment. For example “Both football and boys lacrosse have more equipment. ReplyDeleteAre the masks affecting us more than COVID? Many of us have been wearing masks to “stop the spread of coronavirus,” but is that really true? Many researchers say that masks are scientifically proven to not work.
ReplyDelete“Yeah, that might be good, but there’s limited data on whether face masks are actually effective,” says Benn, a global-health researcher at the University of Southern Denmark in Copenhagen. I’m all for getting rid of COVID, but are masks the right way? As a matter of fact, most masks unless they are N95 medical-grade masks are ineffective and do not protect you or other people from transmission of the virus. This has been proven in many studies; even the CDC has stated that the common masks do not protect against COVID like an N95. Most of us are wearing the “common” non N95 masks which are around 20% effective at best against COVID. "Cloth masks are not going to cut it with omicron," says Linsey Marr, a researcher at Virginia Tech said.
Masks are not easy for everyone, especially those with mental health problems.
https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/health/2022/01/05/cloth-masks-not-effective-omicron-covid/9091574002/
DeleteDear Booliz, while I respect your opinion; I highly disagree. According to AARP, they have evidence that certain studies of mask users offer more protection. Such as people using masks to block the virus. The fewer people that transmit the virus, the fewer people get it. "If that chain is cut anywhere, then the virus is no longer able to propagate or to be transmitted,” Waldman says. “So whether you intervene on the side of the transmitter or the side of the receiver of viral transmission, if you can block the passage of the virus on either end of that chain, then everyone benefits from that.”. This way not all masks are bad.
