  1. I belive that athletes should not be required to stand for the National Anthem. I think this because it's a way for people with a large following to bring attention to big issues. Colin Kaepernick kneeled because of inequality in our country. These athletes aren't kneeling to disrespect the flag, they are just doing it as a way to protest.

  3. I think that athletes should not be required to stand for the National Anthem. I think this because the last time I checked everybody is entitled to their own opinion. Even though I feel like not standing for the National Anthem is silly and foolish, I still feel like athletes that do this should have to right to kneel if this is what they really believe in. People who disagree with the idea of kneeling during the National Anthem is going to have to find a way to block out the distraction whether these are the players, coaches, or even the fans. Athletes should not be required to stand during the National Anthem and I don't think that anyone is going to change my opinion.

    1. I disagree with you, I think athletes should stand for the National Anthem. Kneeling for the National Anthem insults the flag, which represents the people who fought their country, and by kneeling it insults them.

    3. I disagree with you, I think that pro athletes should stand up for the national anthem because... you're just standing up, it's that simple. It doesn't mean you stand up, you don't stand up for equality. It's just good for the publicity of the sport

  4. In my opinion, I believe that Professional Athletes should not be required to stand during the National Anthem. I believe this due to the fact that the First Amendment guarantees freedom of expression to all Americans, and the athletes that are kneeling during the National Anthem are peacefully expressing themselves and their beliefs in a non-violent manner. Athletes kneeling for the National Anthem may not be a good thing, but Athletes should not be required to stand for the Anthem, as it would be limiting our freedom of expression. Our rights are here to stay, and we are allowed to protest-no matter what we are protesting against-as long as it does not involve violence or rioting.

  5. I believe professional athletes should not have to stand for the National Anthem. This is because America says that they stand for freedom, liberty, and justice for all. Not standing for the National Anthem is a peaceful protest which everyone has the right to do so because of the First Amendment. Some say that kneeling won't do anything. It has been doing a lot of things. It has gotten the word out that more and more African Americans just want the same thing everyone else wants, equality.

    1. I believe athletes should be required to stand for the national anthem. Not standing shows disrespect to our country. Their is other ways to stand up for something you have a strong opinion about than kneeling during anthem. You could still express how you feel, and what you think in a way that wouldn't disrespect other people and hurt their feelings, and if people are mad about kneeling for the anthem they don't want to listen to the person kneeling. Everyone being mad about this topic is taking away what is really important for both sides. This insults people that have fought for our country. I'm not saying racism, and hate crimes shouldn't be brought to people's attention I just believe that there is a better way of doing it that wont disrespect the people who fought, died, lost ligaments got post traumatic stress syndrome, and had to leave their families for our country. The flag doesn't just represent the police it represents our military too and I feel like people don't take that into consideration, and if it wasn't for the military we wouldn't even be able to defend our country, Without the constitution we wouldn't have the freedom of speech and the rights that we have today.

  6. I think athletes should be abel to do what they want.It is a free country and you can do what you want to do and say what you want to say. So when the national anthem is playing let them kneel let them belive what they belive its only fair to them to let them knee. So in conclusion let the athletes that want to kneel, kneel.

    1. Athletes should be required to stand because that is disrespecting our country. That is a sign of disrespect because all the work soilders and others do for this country aren't being respected. I get they want to prove a point and I respect that but they shouldn't prove their point during the national anthem.

    4. I must humbly disagree with your notion. It is true that this is a free country, but you are forgetting that during the national anthem, we are not only showing our love for America, but also honoring those who fought in order to protect our land such as the veterans and current soldiers. So when someone is kneeling during the anthem, they are not only heavily implying that they hate our country, but also spitting in the face of all those who sacrificed so much in order to protect us and the land around us.

    5. If you don't stand, you look like you don't respect the people who fought in war to help us in life today, and in general you should stand to show respect.

  7. I believe that athletes should not be required to stand during the national anthem. I think this because people are allowed to peacefully protest for their own personal rights. If they don't feel comfortable honoring the rights that they don't think they have, then why should they be forced to do so. For example, football player Colin Kaepernick kneeled during the national anthem. He did not hurt anyone by doing this, he just did not agree with what everyone else was respecting by standing up.

  8. I Believe that Athletes should not have to stand for the National Anthem. I think that not standing is a peaceful way of protesting about what they wish (Police Brutality) - this is a right of the First Amendment, making it legal. Not standing is also a good way of making people pay attention through popularity, making many people read into the issue and try to stop it.

  9. I think that athletes should not be required to stand for the National Anthem if they don't believe they should. Kneeling during the Anthem is a form of expressing your opinion freely, which is what America is all about. Recently, athletes have been kneeling during the Anthem to protest police brutality. If an athlete kneels during the National Anthem, it is their own form of peaceful protest, and they should not be penalized for that.

    2. Yes, they have their own opinions, but this is an ineffective way of promoting any cause, even racism. They should at least be required to stand, it's not that hard. It also shows disrespect to the soldiers fighting for this country and even the country itself.

  10. I think that athletes should stand. I think they should stand because it shows respect and its important to stand and that you are proud of your country. if you dont stand that shows you dont care or care about your country. you also are disrespecting the people who fought for this country and who died for this country. If you don't stand that is very disrespecting and that is kinda saying that you don't wanna be in a free country.

    1. While that may be partway true, they have every right. What started this whole debate was a colored man kneeling down, in the past we have not treated them right; and even now we still aren't. What these men are doing by kneeling is a way of peaceful protesting.

    2. I disagree. I believe that people are not doing it to disrespect the people of this country. They are kneeling to fight the inequality they are facing in this country.

  11. I believe that athletes should not be required to stand during the National Anthem. It does not show disrespect to the police or the military at all. Many fans are strongly giving hate to these actions and are burning their jerseys in distaste, but it gives the players to speak out and change the community, that is the voice that should be heard. Even if trump is saying "get that piece of garbage out of the field. He is fired. Fire him right now.", it doesn't matter if you stand or not stand. You're still showing respect to America and our freedom.

    1. The fans have a right to burn the Jerseys, and they should be upset.
It shows lots of disrespect for the millitary. They fought for those people to be in the positions that they are, and they just kneel? Thats disrespectful! Do you think that the man who wrote The Star Spangled Banner thought that people would ever kneel and look away in shame from the pain and war that our founding fathers endured for us to be here? NO! I think you shouldn't dis-respect the United States Of America and STAND FOR THE PLEDGE!

  12. I think athletes should stand for the national anthem. The national anthem is a way of paying your respects to the people who have risked their lives for our country. It would be a disrespectful and a dishonor to not stand. When we stand for the anthem it is a formal way to show that we are united and we are proud to be part of this country. It could even cause division between teems and fans who look up to them if we didn't stand. For example when Colin Kaepernick didn't stand for the national anthem it shocked many people and created many conversations.
Standing for the National Anthem is the right thing to do.

  13. I believe that people don't have to stand for the National anthem.I believe this because people have freedom of speech and they are peaceful protest which is in the First Amendment. So there is no harm to it. Also they shouldn't be forced to do something they don't want to do. If they feel as if they don't have their rights or equality to them they should be able to say that or show that. Some people believe it wont do anything but i believe it will. Colin Kaepernick said "I'm not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color." this is a NFL player he was the first one to do this and it has changed a lot from one to many others.

  14. I think all athlete's should stand for the National Anthem. I think this because when someone stands it shows that you have respect for the country. But when someone kneels or doesn't stand it shows that you are disrespecting the flag and multiple other things about the history of America. But I know theses people are kneeling for a reason and to make a point. But people can make a point in many other ways than disrespecting our flag, our country and who fought for our country. But when you kneel it shows disrespected for our men and woman who fought for our freedom. You should always stand.

I think this because when you stand you show respect to our country when you kneel you show disrespect for the flag and members of the armed forces. When you stand your showing you are supportive about our country. They should stand to show a sign of patriotism. Also not standing for the national anthem make many people angry, and chaos.

  17. I think that Athletes should not be required to stand for the National Anthem. When Colin Kaepernick and Eric Reid refused to stand to the National Anthem in August of 2016, Kaepernick said "I'm not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color". I agree with him. We don't treat people of color equally. Not standing for the National Anthem is a peaceful and simple way of protesting. This will make people pay attention and start talking about the topic. Athletes should not be required to stand for the National Anthem, it should be their choice.

  19. I believe that there is no reason whatsoever to not stand up during the national anthem. It is absolutely ludicrous that anyone thinks that disrespecting our country will get anything done other than cause controversy. Anyone who doesn’t stand for the pledge of allegiance disrespects our military, founding fathers, and a plethora of other people. I feel that Colin Kaepernick is a wretched villain and deserves to be kicked out of the N.F.L. along with who followed in his suit. People in the USA are hidden from lots of the horrors in the world such as communism, Racism, and Sexism. If they knew what life is like for people in North Korea or Russia they would not be complaining.

And isn´t kneeling a very peaceful way of portraying their thoughts without harming anyone else? Also, I do not agree with your thought that anyone that kneels during the Anthem is a ¨wretched villain.¨ How would you feel if you were sticking up for an issue that means a lot to you and were criticized for it?

  20. I think Athletes should be required to stand for the National Anthem. It shows respect to the men and women that have fought for our country. It Also shows a good example for younger viewers who watch sports on how to respect the American Flag. NFL players who kneel have their disagreements. Those players who have their disagreements have the right to have their disagreement. But they should not show their disagreement during the National Anthem. They should show it at a different time. Athletes should stand during the National Anthem.

I respect your thought on the respect we should show to our veterans who sacrifice their life for our country, but you must also reflect on our country. We're not ranked bad on racism, compared to other countries, but it's still spreading and infecting our country. The NFL athletes that kneel have seen things that many others haven't, and they have a right to speak out with action that is non-violent.

  21. In my opinion, I believe athletes should stand for the National Anthem. This debate caused isolation from fans, teams, and their coaches. The National Anthem is a representation of our freedom, liberty, and justice; showing we are proud Americans. To refuse to stand is almost like saying our country no longer stands for its ideals. Which is ridiculous. There are more productive and efficient ways to promote a cause without shaming our country for political attention. Because of this, many Americans are angry and protesting against these actions.
