“Listen to me, Jonas.  They can’t help it.  They know nothing.”

“You said that to me once before.”

“I said it because it’s true.  It’s the way they live.  It’s the life that was created for them.”

What public issue from our society do you wish people would wake up and understand the way that you do?    In one paragraph:

  1. People can create friendships through making jokes. Though, jokes can unintentionally hurt people feelings at times. Of course some might ponder upon this claim. “How can a joke hurt people’s feelings? It’s just a joke.” Jokes that target a social class, race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability, and much more are known as “Disparagement Humor”. These types of jokes can lead to people having prejudices, insensitivity, and misinterpretations. When people use their prerogative to insult others with means to humor people and claim it as a “joke”, they might risk ruining their entire reputation when the person being insulted misunderstands. According to, Inari Sakki (Uni PROF- Social Psychology) & Jari Martikainen (Uni PROF- Social Psychology)- “Humiliation is the central component of humor: in the process of getting fun from ridiculousness, our own sense of superiority receives an unexpected boost humor acts as a sort of instrument that inflates our own ego and deflates that of others.” People are more likely to use insulting humor on people of a “lower” level than them as they seem “vulnerable”. The people who insult others feel better about themselves because the joke boosts their ego, but it also makes the victim look bad due to stereotypes that have been established because of these kind of jokes. Disparagement Humor makes people insensitive as Disparagement Humor almost impairs the individuals self control and making it so that the individual isn’t aware when the joke has gone to far and doesn’t seem like a “joke” anymore. According to Henri Bergson (Philosopher) -“To laugh at someone it is necessary not to be emotionally involved with the person subjected to offense. It is necessary to shut pietas and sympathies and to look at the situation as external spectators: “to produce its effect, the comic needs a temporary anesthesia of the heart”. Disparagement Humor is only taken seriously when you are closely associated with that person and feel the need to stand up for them. Disparagement Humor is something that everyone has used to humor others. If people continue to use unnecessary humor like this and don’t think about the consequences of the words coming out of their mouth, they may end up in a bad place.

  2. What do you think animal abuse is? Hitting a dog? Not giving cat water? Yes those are all correct but what about being drowned, brain damaged, getting addicted to drugs, getting bones crushed, and death. That is what happens to animals at testing laboratories; most likely your favorite facial product does all that to animals. A quote from Peta says, “Video footage from inside laboratories show animals who cower in fear every time someone walks by.” Usually after all this is done to animals like dogs, cats, pigs, rats. mice, monkies, pigs, they are dumped in a cage to die.The US allows all animals to be tested legally and only some states have made it illegal. There are alternatives for animals but they aren't used and the US doesn't make it that companies have to. Not only do millions of animals die each year for testing animals aren't accurate for testing products for humans so after all that a product may not even be safe to put on shelves.

  3. How would it feel to get your face sliced off just for your horn? Rhino’s go through this every year. They are one the main targets of wildlife trafficking. Rhinos may be a more popular topic about wildlife trafficking, but there are others too. Over 100 million sharks are killed every year, the United Nations reports. Fishermen catch sharks, cut off their fins and throw the still living shark back into the water. Unstable waterlife ecosystems are a result of the decline in apex predators. And this business continues to grow. In the Congo, 25% of its wildlife was poached in one week. The Wildlife Conservation Society reported that just in illegal fishing, over 4.2 million to 9.5 million dollars was made. “We had previously been offered multiple tons of ivory if we were willing to buy in bulk". At the breakfast meeting we eventually came to an agreement to make a significant purchase,”says Special Agent Mathers, proving that these poachers have huge amounts of illegal animal products ready to be sold when necessary. The growth of this trade is rapid and without any regulation, it will destroy and disrupt many ecosystems.

  4. Does heavily processed food sound like a marvelous meal to you? The answer is no. If you live in the United States chances are, this is what schools are serving to you. These large food corporations are willingly producing frozen pre-prepared meals for you. The process of obtaining these free lunches in school is humiliating to younger children. These unhealthy meals are costing schools a fortune. Not only do these foods cost a lot of money to the schools, they also are decreasing children's test scores. It has been significantly proven that nutrition plays a big role in children's development. According to Peggy Chen, “Unhealthy diets correlate with increased rates of obesity, which can develop into diabetes or heart disease later on.” If a child is struggling to handle these issues with their body, school lunches will not help them regulate their diets. Michelle Obama, leader of the Let's move! Program has begun to decrease the rates of obesity in young children. Schools in the United States need bigger budgets for lunches. Help us fight for these changes!

  5. You are in school when suddenly you feel drained. A headache starts. You are sad, angry, and tired at the same time. You can’t sleep. These are indications that you have a mental burnout. Many students experience this during the school day. According to the site Young Wonks it states “Burnout becomes a common theme, turning minds to mush faster than microwave popcorn.” More people need to realize that these mental burnouts are mainly caused by loads of work during the school day. There is a large impact on mental health from prolonged school days. Lots of students get lots of homework on top of the long school day. This causes students to get less sleep and become grumpy and ineffective during school. Many students' grades drop from lack of sleep. Teachers are tired and are not as effective, and students are lazy. On top of that, students have no time for hobbies and fun experiences. According to a study by the American Academy of Pediatrics, shorter class time could also have a positive effect on mental health.

  6. Did you know that there are still about 13,400 nuclear weapons left in the world? These powerful explosives can destroy cities in seconds, and kill everyone in it. These weapons should be outlawed. If this gets out of control, it could be a major disaster to the world. "Nuclear war cannot be won and should never be fought," says the United Nations in "Securing our common future: An agenda for disarmament." This journal proves that the best way to stop this problem is to illegalize nuclear weapons. In the 1980s, about 60,000 nuclear weapons existed. After passing 9 delegitimization acts, 13,400 of them still exist. If these explosives get in the wrong hands, the world could be destroyed. It only cost 2 of these weapons in the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki of 1945. This act left millions of people dead, and left 2 cities inhabitable to human life. As you can see, nuclear weapons should be outlawed.

  7. Does 61 Millon deaths each year sound like a lot? If it doesn't, try thinking about 7 Billon deaths each year! Each year in egg industries a total of 7 billon male or sick baby chicks are killed. This happens beacuse male and sick baby chicks do not make them money. It gives them no money because male chicks can not produce eggs and sick chicks eggs are contaminated. "Whenever an animal is intentionally killed by a human, it must be done using a humane method, causing no pain and the least amount of stress experienced by the animal" said by Charlie Mason and Brite L Nielsen. On top of killing the baby chicks they kill them giving them the most pain and stress. They do this by throwing them into a shredder. A better way to kill them would be to kill them using gas. This method kills them with the least amount of pain and stress.

  8. Have you ever sat in a classroom, and the students were talking and disrupting the teacher who was simply trying to do their job and teach? Perhaps you've wondered how much teachers get paid to deal with all that? Well, It’s not as much as you might think. The average teacher only gets paid 76% of the average earned by other educated professionals, that’s not even considering the average of $450 that a teacher spends on supplies for their classroom and helping kids feel comfortable in the learning environment. Believe it or not, teachers do not get paid back the money they spend on supplies to help their students. It doesn’t help either that most teachers have lots of student loans or debt from even picking this career path in life. This affects the nation as a whole. The effect of low salary, and having to pay for supplies has caused people to not want to take on the teacher role; resulting in a teacher shortage. Without teachers, there is no one to teach the youth math, LA skills, history, and other subjects teachers teach; causing issues for the other career paths that rely on that.

  9. The average American drinks 1-2 Liters of water each day. If that drinking water contains unsafe levels of contaminants, it can cause serious health problems such as gastrointestinal effects, reproductive effects, or even cancer. All drinking water in the United States comes from fresh surface water and underground aquifers. Human waste from sewers and pipes often empty out into fresh surface water and underground aquifers, which deposits harmful microbes in them. The disinfection of drinking water has effectively reduced the epidemic of waterborne diseases such as typhoid, cholera and hepatitis in the United States. It might be the only reason some of us are alive today.

  10. https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/35631564/2023-mlb-rule-changes-pitch-clock-end-shift-bigger-bases

Baseball has been played the same way for many years. There weren’t any clocks or a limit of how many times you could pick off. You could always shift as far over you wanted. But now there are different rules that make a huge impact in the game. Now there is a rule on the shift. You have to be on the infield dirt or grass. The shift rule has made the game a little more exciting. There is an increase of base hits due to the shift, because the players are playing where their position is. The new pitch clock has made the game go faster. On average one pitch took about twenty seconds to throw. There is a 15 second clock for when there isn’t a runner on base, and a 20 second clock for when there is a runner on base. If a pitcher takes more than the given time the batter will be given a ball. Before the pitch clock an average MLB game took three hours and four minutes in 2022. The new pick off rule is implemented to attempt to increase the action on the base path. Pitchers are allowed two pick off attempts per batter, that includes step offs as well. A batter is given eight seconds to get in the batter's box and be ready to hit. If the batter takes more than eight seconds they will be charged with a strike. The pitcher gets a reset of the amount of times they can step off if and when a runner steals or attempts to steal a base.

  11. When you think of what causes lots of deaths in the U.S. what comes to mind? Probably not poverty, even though it is the 4th greatest cause of deaths in the U.S. “If we had less poverty, there’d be a lot better health and well-being, people could work more, and they could be more productive,” Says David Brady a UCR professor and lead author. People in the world are blinded by other issues in the world and poverty gets minimal attention even though it is a large cause of deaths. Studies show that people in poverty which is less than 50% of the U.S. median income usually have the same rate of death as people with more income then them until they hit their 40's. Once people in poverty hit their 40's their rate of death increases drastically. Poverty kills more than some well known diseases that people think would kill much more such as Obesity, Diabetes, Drug Overdoses, Suicides, Firearms, and Homicides. Homicides specifically cause ten times less deaths in the U.S. than poverty but it gets far more attention.

  12. Do you know what your teachers make for a living? Well an average earning of a full time teacher since 2019 is around $50,078. Sounds like a lot right? No, as a teacher their salaries are very little, and this doesn’t include the money they use out of pocket for necessities/supplies for teaching. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, 2019 American Community Survey it showed that women are more affected. Women make up around %80 of elementary/middle schools. For how much hard work and dedication teachers put into their job do you think this should be their yearly salary?

  13. The world is changing. Every day, more and more people are being born in a rapidly, unpredictably changing world. In all of these changes, one thing remains a key part of all of them. Technology. This new generation, deemed Generation Alpha, will be the one of the first generations to be using technology since birth. By 2025, there is expected to be more than 2 billion. But how have all of these things affected them? Most of this generation will be shaped by social media from an early age, as due to most being alive during the COVID pandemic, they’ve been inside most of their lives. As such, they’ve constantly used technology for communication and contact with the outside world for a good few years, and have been shaped even more by the habits and personalities of their parents; who have also had a similar connection to technology, even if it began later. Well, think about all the articles you’ve seen that talk about the negative effects of technology and social media use. And now imagine children, 14 and most likely younger, being exposed to all of that. Technology has brought us better education, transportation, agriculture, and healthcare, but it has come with its downsides. And is it really worth it to keep going at the expense of children?

  14. In Athens,Texas, they have a 4 day school week. Many officials have resented this idea but it seems to be working great for them. The parents love it because it gives them more time to spend with their kids, and it takes stress off of them. The teachers love it because it gives them a more laid off schedule, but does not harm their paycheck. The students love it because for one, they get to enjoy their Friday however they like, and two, their grades reflect improvement in education. And if the personal benefits to a 4 day school week weren't enough, let's talk about the health benefits. Studies showed that this 4 day system they have going on actually improved their sleep and health. Less fatigue and more focus on school work. The 4 day school week makes it so instead of 40 hours a week in school, it's cut down to 32 hours a week. “The driving force, for us, was to find a way to make us unique so that we could offer some benefit to the teachers that they might not have elsewhere,” said Janie Sims. This shows how a 4 day school week is better than 5.

  15. How does someone's weight go up? How could someone stay away from being overweight? It all depends on what and how much they eat. If people eat more than their body can burn, their weight will go up. Sugary drinks and refined grains also cause weight gain. Luckily, there are good solutions to weight control. Foods such as, whole grain, vegetables, fruits, and nuts are better substitutes than junk food. Some dietary patterns can help stay away from diabetes, obesity, and heart disease. Eating foods that are high in protein in less quantities can satisfy the stomach at the same rate of eating a higher quantity of food containing harmful fats, and carbohydrates. This is why replacing junk food with healthier alternatives can help with keeping you figure on point and also assisting you with proportions, and controlling you weight.

  17. When you think of an example of an enduring issue of our world, things similar to climate change or discrimination may come to mind, however, a problem of extremity presents itself in the youth’s everyday life; the deterioration of student’s mental health due to school. Did you know that eighty percent of the youth in our world who are in need of mental care, lack it? While school is a very fundamental part of our society as a whole, you can see again and again the negative effects inflicted on students from the very thing supposed to be educating and providing support for them. With issues such as bullying, racism, and academic pressure all thriving off of widespread communities and an uprise in technological use in the classroom. Even so, while many people instantly jump to blame such problems on, say, social media or technology as a whole; though they are undeniable issues, they are not completely to blame for the mental distress of students around the globe.

  20. Many think four day school weeks will impact the learning and how much their kids/ peers will learn. Meanwhile others think that four day school weeks will help their mental health. Most people think because their students will lack one day a week their children will learn less and not be as smart. Edw claims “You hear over and over again from families, from students, from teachers that kids are happier, that there’s increased morale, there’s improved school climate, there’s positive effects on school discipline, but that often doesn’t show up in surveys” there are true benefits for kids that many adults don't see. Parents and Teachers only see the kids work ethic and how they are doing in their class and the grades on the gradebook. However they do not see the underneath where kids are up till 12 o’clock at night working on homework or a presentation that is due the next day, the bullying that goes on amongst these kids, or their mental health. More than 50% of children don't open up to people about their mental health.

  21. Poverty is the most unfair thing ever and we need to stop it. Poverty can ruin someone's life very fast. It can happen as easily as losing a job, or getting evicted from your home. People don’t realize how hard it is to live in poverty, but people should. Some people living in poverty were born into poverty which is not fair. Some of them are even kids which will stop them from making the most of their lives. All those kids will probably never have an education, more than 244 million children don’t have an education. Education is important for everyone, if you don’t have one then you can’t do most things normally. Almost all kids have suffered a health issue and survived, kids living in poverty can’t do that. Those kids living in poverty could die from health issues, they could get a disease easily and have no money to pay for the medicine. Poverty can easily take over the world. It could even happen to you.

They have over 108.5 million people using their app daily, mostly because of the fact that it gives different human-like answers every time (Happy customers= Happy money). One bad thing about this app is that "If a writer uses it to create text for publication without disclosure" then it's counted as plagiarism. Even if it's for headlines, social media, public text, stories, and or to help with research it would be considered plagiarism. You probably use ChatGBT for schoolwork but be careful because if your teachers find out you could easily be in big trouble because well it's plagiarism
