You have
been researching a societal problem of your choice, and you should have lots of
proof, in the form of statistics and/or examples, that the problem is fairly
recent and can be traced back through history.
In one
paragraph:
● explain what the societal problem is,
and
● include your most recent evidence
(example or statistics) to prove its existence (you should have way more
information in your notes than you can fit in a paragraph).
My societal problem is Laboratory animal abuse. One place that truly shows animal abuse is Green Hill in Italy. They breed beagles just to give them a awful life I feel like. Yes, they are researching ways to cure human illnesses, but it's animals we are talking about. They have 5 huts with 2500 adult dogs and many litters. Hundreds of beagles die each year.
ReplyDeleteI know that there been lots of animal abuses for science. I agree with your solution but there would need to be something that doesn't allow people to go animal abuse. My solution is to make a law that you can only do an animal abuse unless it is a important reason. But it would make people want to do more animal abuse so you then would have to do protection on those animals that are getting abused.
DeleteOne solution that I think has been attempted in the United States is laws that make sure animals are not hurt when being tested on in the lab. This could be a solution for another country if a law like this is created. This kind of law could be created but it would also have to be enforced as well. Places that test on animals could be inspected on a regular basis and fined if they are bending the rules. I do agree with you that we need to remember that animals are alive too.
DeleteAnimal abuse is a problem that people have been trying to fix for a longtime. A solution that I already know of is making laws against people hurting or capturing some animals. Not all people follow these laws though. People smuggle animals into the US from other countries and then sell them into a terrible life of abuse and captivity. One solution that I came up with is to have inspections for all animal owners in the US. If animal owners get regular inspections then they will be most likely to stop abusing the animals. Another solution that is in the process of is, shutting down puppy mills. I know that many puppy mills send their dogs to pet stores, so many people are protesting to shut down puppy mills and adopt an animal from a shelter.
DeleteAnimal abuse is a big problem. If they're taking animals for research for human illnesses, one solution could be that they should research on humans instead of animals. They would get better research using our brains. The animals shouldn't be taking the abuse for us. If we use us humans instead of animals it would be better for both us and the animals. We would get better research on our illnesses and there wouldn't be so much animal abuse.
DeleteLittering is a huge problem today everywhere in the world. Littering dates back very far 1347 in Paris, France. This dates back to people throwing trash in the streets and letting it build up. One third to half of the population died to the Bubonic plague which swept through Europe from 1347 to 1352 because of all of this piled up trash.
ReplyDeleteOne solution that has already been attempted is putting a fine on littering. Depending on the area, if you get caught littering you can end up having to pay a fine. Some places have signs that state the amount that they would have to pay, others don't. This solution could work, except not many people turn in a litterer. If people work together to end littering by turning people in, or even picking up the litter you see on the side, you can help make a difference. I think that one big problem is that people don't understand how big of a problem this is. I think that if you find more recent facts, people will see the effect of the problem more clearly. One solution that may work is putting patrols out in national parks, or other popular parks. This way, people will be caught if they liter. Also, more people will become employed. You can kill two birds with one stone.
DeleteOne solution that is already being used is littering fines. However, this might not work alone as people aren't constantly being monitored for littering. A solution that could work well with littering fines would be educating our youth about how much damage littering does to the environment. By educating and impacting our younger members of society, we can help families from littering as well.
Deleteone solution is that we tell people how littering hurts that animals and could possibly affect us humans to. How it can affect us humans is we might not be able to hunt certain animals anymore due to all of the trash that the animals eat. The trash can kill animals to. They made a law about littering but people still do it I just think that we should make a bigger deal out of it instead of just giving a ticket for it.
Delete
DeleteOne solution that could be for littering is that maybe the government go through towns and cities to find that garbage piles and go up to the person's property and ask them to come and pick this up or they could get a ticket. If this does not work another solution is that maybe everyone come together to make compost plans and use it for all the extra food you don't eat and don't want.
My societal problem is social media. Social media has changed the society around us so much. Over 1/3 of the world population uses social media. It affects teens the most. Teens can get addicted very quickly. The average teen will use any social media network for 2 hours and 11 minutes a day. Social media controls everyone's lives. People revolve their lives around social media networks. People also get cyber bullied with social media due to hackers, sexual predators, stalkers. Social media has evolved so much over the years though. It's cool to look at the change it has brought to the world.
ReplyDeleteGreat work! Some solutions have been enacted and are currently in effect that help resolve these issues. However, many social media sites are highly unregulated, which let's them do what they want to do. A potential solution to this problem is to provide oversight of these sites by independent government agencies that can enact rules, punish violators, an deliver accountability to social media executives. Another solution might be to more highly screen applicants for social media accounts for potential red flags that may be correlated with aggressive and illicit behavior. However, it may be difficult to do so without violating a user's privacy in certain circumstances. Some solutions, however, must be paired with other solutions to be significantly effective. Overall, good job!
DeleteSocial Media is a truely a huge problem. A couple solutions that we are trying right now is schools are banning social media use on their grounds. Anothe solution we are trying i limiting the hours children are allowed on social media. A solution that I think might work is making a law not premiting kids under 18 to have social media.
Deletethe thing about social media is, it can be a really good thing but also a bad thing. I know in the past there have been companys that made campaigns to stop cyber bullying. I'm sure they effected some kids but that is not a long term solution. I feel that if we have parental options on the phone, say the parent also has access to the childs account and they can monitor what they're saying and posting. This would make it so that kids won't say mean things because they know there parent can see it. This could prevent way more cyber attacks.
DeleteSocial media would need world wide help to solve this problem. If either you or your parents could limit your social media time it may get better. Things like cyber bullying has been a problem for a long time, cyberbullying is such a big problem it will be hard to take down. When an instagram page is reported I bet it takes a long time to take down if it gets taken down at all. Hackers are hard to trace. Most teens our age are immature and don't know what's right from wrong to post on social media. I feel if people started to think about who will see what they do on social media and what it can do to your future people would be more careful and think about what they're doing. Even if we just simply telling someone you know how you feel about this problem it may get in their heads to think about what they're doing. People have tried to get to people telling them the outcome and for most it doesn't work. Schools have had assemblies and only few listened.
DeleteAnimal abuse is a bigger problem than you might think. It has been going on for at least the past 2,000 years. In 2003 71% of pets were abused in some way.In 2012 72,000dogs & 24,000 cats were experimented on in just in the US.So people abuse animals in many different ways but one big way it happens is from dog fighting. People get dogs from shelters and make them fight. They are chained up and then put into a "fighting ring",and forced to fight.About 16,000 dogs are killed each year from dog fighting.
ReplyDeleteIreland, I really like your statistics! It really helps prove your point! I think one solution for this could be when getting a dog from a shelter or pet store have them check your record to see if are a right person to take care of a dog. Perhaps there are other methods to help this solution. Maybe if the person isn't the best person then have someone check on them every month or two. This solution might work, but people may hide their actions and/or lie to the person. So they have to be sure the dog is good. Again, great job!
DeleteRachel Lai, I agree with your solution. When wanting to adopt an animal, the store or shelter owners should interview the person and go to their house to check what their home life is like, just as if they were adopting a human child. They are basically the same, in that they need a loving home where they know they will be taken care of. Although that may be difficult to do because shelters might have a lot of animals that need homes immediately. Another solution could be more fostering programs. That way, the animal could go to a home temporarily while the shelters bring in more animals. If the foster family falls in love with the animal, that's even better! Then the shelter or store owners will know that they gave the animal to a good and loving home.
DeleteIreland, animal abuse has been a very big problem for a very long time. A solution that might work is letting people that work with animals understand what it does to the animal. A possible solution is more people looking after the dogs, so they have the care they need. Another possible solution can be, if a person wants to get a dog the person giving the dog away could possibly look into the persons records to see if they have anything about abuse. Great job Ireland!
DeleteWow amazing job. You gave so much detail and thought for this i believe this problem could be fixed if people actually thought that animals have feelings there just like us. I think you gave a lot of good detail and gave a lot of good points. Make sure to add more if you want to argue and prove this is a big big issue. I think if someone really wants an animal they should be interviewed to make sure they won't harm them.
DeleteMy social problem s respecting the National Anthem. I found that when a white policeman killed a "innocent black boy", Colin Kaepernick protested and kneeled to the National Anthem. After he kneeled in week one, nearly 200 players joined by week three and also kneeled to the National Anthem.
ReplyDeleteA solution that had attempted and that is still in the process is when you go to a sports game someone stands up and sing the National Anthem to respect it. Another solution that you can put action is by doing the pledge when the announcements is on so you can respect it too. People should take respect of the National Anthem and just ignore it when someone else is giving the National Anthem respect.
DeleteI believe that The National Anthem is important patriotic symbol to our country. It symbolizes your patriotism to America. Everyone has the right to believe in what they want, but it also shouldn't interfere with someone else's beliefs. A solution to respect the National Anthem is to not take a protest against a patriotic symbol to America.
DeleteThere isn't really a solution to this because people are set to have their own opinion and do what they want. Respecting the national anthem is a problem because it is respecting those people who fought for our rights.
DeleteA very simple solution is for people to follow the laws, because my guess is that that baby was killed in cross fire from some criminals shooting at the cop. That solution would start up a chain of solutions ending with football players not disrespecting our nations anthem.
DeleteOur entire world is run by fossil fuels.By burning these fuels we are releasing harmful chemicals into the air. This was shown in the mid-1800's when the air in london and some other major cities was unbreathable at some points because of factories burning so much coal while competing to make products quickly and cheaply.
ReplyDeleteThis is a very important topic to be researching. One solution that I think would make a big difference is finding substitutes for the fossil fuels that will give the same results. Using these could make it so there are less harmful chemicals being released into the atmosphere. In order for this to work I think that people will have to be more alert about what they are using instead of just racing to be the first person to make something.
DeleteA good solution to this problem is using other forms of energy such as solar and hydro. These don't burn fossil fuels, so they minimalize pollution. I believe that on top of this, people should be regularly updated on how much pollution has increased. If people knew how much damage they were doing, then they would try to fix the problem.
DeleteI think this problem does exist,I also believe the whole world could be clean renewable energy by 2050,in fact this plan has already started. The first country to comply was the United States with the first state being New York followed by california. However this plan will only work if we all contribute.Another solution could be renewable energy for cars but the problem here is most people would rather keep there gas powered car, rather then go buy a new one.
DeleteRichie you do make a point fossilfuels are harming the air and our planet. There is a UN treaty for nations to cut down on pollution and we need to joing that list. We need to cut down on our polution. If we don't do that one solution is just find something eles insted of fossil fuels like Solar but it has to as affective as fossil fuels.

ReplyDeleteMy societal problem is gun violence. We hear about mass shooting all the time on the news and throughout our pears. The mass shooting I am researching is the most recent one in Las Vegas Nevada. A 64 year old man opened fire from 32 floors up at a country concert. This man killed 59 and injured hundreds.
That is a great topic to research, my personal solution to gun violence if for the FBI to do monthly/yearly property checks, at any day of the year at random. They would have full right to look through everyone's property and check if there are any type of bad things out in their homes. This would help a lot because the property owners would not understand what is happening and they would not have enough time to react and hide anything, if they are. If they are not hiding anything then they would be acting normal.
Delete- Anish Moktan
There almost are no possible solutions to gun violence. But I do have ideas of what the government can do in the future.Shut down every gun store in America for 2 years.Go on social media and find every gun seller (License Or Not)Track them down take their weaponry and the license they have or any access to gun's the person have and try to make gun's as rare as possible and don't open up another gun store until we can go one year without a mass shooting. Also when people try to buy gun's they need to show actual proof that they have a clean record and are in a stable state of mental health from the past three years. And also people that only buy guns for hunting there should be a law that people with hunting licenses only will have access to a certain amount of types of guns such as Hunting rifles and small handguns.People shouldn't need an AR-15 or Glock 19 to kill a dear or a bear a nice little Ruger Can kill a dear and a Remington can kill a bear not an AK.We need better gun laws.
DeleteI believe we need to make it harder to buy and sell guns, even though its as easy as someone who has a clean background could just hand a gun to someone who doesn't have a clean background. I think a possible solution that we should put tracking devices on guns. This way we can monitor where the guns are and if they're somewhere that could cause harm the cops could easily be there and stop anything that could possibly happen before people get hurt.
DeleteGun violence is a huge problem in this modern era, with millions of injuries each year. Knowing that almost all mass shootings are caused by a moral, like personal thoughts on the world, I feel we should address the thoughts of these shooters. We could ether maybe help these terrorists with their personal problems with a kind of therapy, so they would lose their reason to kill all of those innocent lives
DeleteBullying is a huge problem in the US. In 2015 20% of students report some sort of bullying happening to them. Usually an episode of bullying takes an average of 35 seconds and only one out of twenty five times an adult stops the bullying. This means bullying is very common but barely anything gets done to stop it from happening
ReplyDeleteA solution that could be put into effect (or is sorta already in effect) is having those support groups. When a support group comes together they help each other out and talk about the issues in their life (including bullying and family life). Usually in a support group there is one or two adults who can advise other adults in that child's life; so they can help them. Having good friends to talk to is also good because they can talk to each other for their issues.
DeleteMost bullying is caused because of something affecting the bully's life. A solution may be to counsel those who are causing mischievous actions. If the bullies get the help they need it'll be less likely for them to attack someone because of their issues. This can’t happen without other solutions though. If people were more open and didn’t feel ridiculed for their feelings, it would be easier to help everyone including the bully.
DeleteI agree with the solution of counselling with bully, but I also think it is important to talk to the guardians at home. In case there are problems at home or maybe a backstory to the bullies life that the school should be aware of. Another solution could be to have bigger punishment which may or may not work depending on the person, but it is still worth a try. One more solution could be to have more hall monitors in a school to make sure no one is being in bullied.
DeleteSteph you are right there is a problem with bullying. There has been many attempts to try to stop bullying, like the stop bullying speak up campaign. My solution for this problem is to speak up about someone bullying you. See a principal, a teacher, or a counselor.
DeleteAir pollution has affected the world, and we are the main source of it.For example an estimated 160 million tons of pollutants are released into the air every year in the U.S.It is affecting the world because it is causing global warming because it is trapping the heat in the atmosphere with carbon dioxide and methane, and since it causes global warming polar ice caps melt which causes the sea level to rise which floods coastal areas.Air pollution is a big part of the world.
ReplyDeleteAir pollution is a very important problem. I know that we are trying to use more solar power energy instead of fossil fuels to reduce the amount of smoke. I think that this is a useful way to continue to get enough energy in the US because people could just add a couple solar panels to their house and most likely have enough energy to power their house.
DeleteI think a good and simple way to end this is to use electric vehicles and utilities. The power to produce this electricity can be mostly renewable. If this does not work we can also use fossil fuels to create the energy. But at the energy plants we can capture the pollution and reuse it in some way by cooling it down to a usable form.
DeletePolluting of the air has been a problem for many years. By what you said, one of the reasons that global warming is happening is due to the methane and carbon dioxide that is being released in the atmosphere. Using this, what we could do as a community is to find Alteratives to using these harmful materials. For instance we could use possibly use energy from organic sources instead of electricity or fossil fuels. Both of which, are some of the biggest offenders.
DeleteRenewable energy will ultimately solve this problem, but not without lowering prices. In China, one of the world's biggest polluters, there was a ban on coal. That sounds great, but people couldn't afford the new, cleaner energy. People began to sell coal illegally and the same people who used it before the ban continued to use it as their main energy source. Prices won't decrease until more people switch to renewable energy. A way we could start this movement is to spread awareness. Many people choose to ignore pollution because they are unaware of the real effects. If more people know about this concept, I think they will be more willing to use renewable energy instead of fossil fuels.
DeleteAs more and more wastes are made and put into the environment, more and more backlash effects comeback and hit us and the animals of the world. Constant waste removal, if done incorrectly, can have serious effects on us. Here are some examples; The Bubonic Plague was caused by rats and other rodents congregating and breeding in waste, giving them fleas carrying horrible, horrible diseases, and it killed up to 30-60% of Europeans at the time, 25 million of people gone because of uncleanliness and laziness. Many of today's old electronics are thrown out, which leaves toxic chemicals like lead and Cadmium into the environment, where small animals can ingest or inhale it, and die from poisoning. Some countries and cities have taken a step in the right direction with E-Waste, electronic waste, and banning the trashing of all electronics. Some places even force companies to recycle old items. Much of the trash we throw out comes right back to us like entering our food and water. PBDEs are are chemicals from trash that come back in our food, do you want to eat something you've thrown away? no! A possible solution to this is to keep a recycling bin and a trash bin everywhere, so you can throw out your trash and not poison the environment. But that is too simple, we need an enforcing way to make sure all trash is thrown away and all recyclables recycled, like recycling plastics, glass and metals. Don't throw out a water bottle, recycle it.
ReplyDeleteLet me first say, well done on this you have a lot of compelling information. However I think we could improve this by simply banning hazardous material from production. This would force companies to use reusable materials.
DeleteThere is a solution and it all ready there there are machines in some stores were people can recycle there bottles and cans for small amounts of cash and if you turn in more you can gets lots of money and i know a few people who do so and they recycle well and it helps them a lot with money cost and much more.
DeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
DeleteThere is a solution we should think of and stop using so much stuff. It's hurting every animal population and even the coral reef is dying because of the wastes. We should also not leave chemicals where animals could ingest or inhale it like you said. I believe you could've gave more examples about what type of environments are dying so people would know not to throw there trash there even when they already know not to. I know we tried to stop throwing stuff near woods, ocean, ponds, and lakes to help the animals species but we weren't successful with it. By the way great job keep up the good work.
Deleteone solution that might work is making recycling more available. Because lots of places only have garbage bins and not recycling bins, so people will just trow their water bottles in the garbage and it will not get recycled.
DeleteAs many of you may know, garbage and waste is a big problem not just in our society, but the world. there is garbage dating back 162,000 years ago, when cavemen wasted clam shells. And is hasn't gone away, in 2015 the united nations environment program research and came to a conclusion of 7 to 10 billion metric tons of waste, to put this into perspective one metric ton is about one large polar bear, and that,s enough to go to the moon and back 27 times if the polar bears were nose to tail.
ReplyDeleteHumans contribute to the excessive amounts of waste on the planet. Humans dump garbage/waste into the oceans and they fill landfills to the rim. One way to combat this societal issue is to use biodegradable materials that can be used for everyday things. Biodegradable materials can be used by humans to reduce the use of non-degradable materials that are put into ecosystems unnaturally. This way if the materials are thrown into the environment, they will eventually decay naturally.
DeleteOne solution that has already been done is spreading awareness about recycling. In elementary school I learned all about what we should recycle and what we shouldn't. However, as your facts state, this hasn't made a huge impact. One solution that may work would be to fine someone if you find a huge amount of recyclable items in their garbage. I understand that there may be some set backs regarding this solution, but people put their heart where their money goes. If we start charging them, people will start considering recycling more, which will bring down the amount of waste and garbage.
DeleteMy peronal solution would be to not use as many substances that are harmful towards the earth. Landfills are trying to burn plastics so that they don't just stay on the earth because no plastic is able to decompose. Also, people are dumping there trash into the ocean, but this method is the cause of ocean pollution, so don't do it!
DeleteA solution that could work is making everyday things more natural. Most things that are made out of chemicals, like plastic, aren't good for the earth. If someone throws plastic out the car window it's not gonna just go away. It's going to stay there until someone picks it up or until it finds its way to a body of water and starts to harm animals.
DeleteMy societal problem is drug abuse. We always hear from programs that we should not abuse drugs. Most of them don't help this problem.About 200,000 people die each year due to overdosing on drugs.About 13% of 8th graders say they have tried a drug in the past year.
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
DeleteI have the same topic and one solutons for all the deaths is for kids to be monitured by the parents every couple days. Kids could be tought to know the dangers of drugs early so they know how to avoid them.
DeleteMany states have laws against selling and buying drugs, but that hasn't seemed to stop most people. There are still drug dealers popping up everywhere, and the drugs often come from our bordering countries like Canada and Mexico. Not only are the laws broken constantly, there are also states fighting to repeal laws against drugs. This means that drugs will become available to adults, and they can influence their kids to use and abuse drugs, too.
DeleteI like your solution but there still needs to be a way to stop people from doing drug abuse. My solution would be to put drugs in special section in any that that sells drugs so that you can only take a limited amount per time you buy drugs from stores that sell drugs. This would make people want to steal the drugs so you then would need to have people guard the drgs wherever they would be stored secretly thats is also hard to get to/into.
DeleteDrugs are illegal in many states, but that doesn't stop teens from getting their hands on them. One solution I came up with is, if your doctor prescribes you a prescription drug, only take the amount you need. A cause of drug abuse is, overdosing on prescription drugs that you don't need to stay healthy. If people stop overdosing on prescription drugs, then the 200,000 people who die each year will drop.
DeleteTerrorism is huge problem. It happens in almost all the countries. Unfortunately it happens in the US a lot. Terrorism is killing or hurting people because of a political view. For example the attacks of 9-11. Osama bin Laden who lead the attacks of 9-11 thought Islam was being corrupted by the US.
ReplyDeleteA solution to this is to station soldiers in cities all around America we can easily decrease the amount of terrorist attacks. Also we have to stop letting illegal immigrants into America it is not safe and we complain about getting attacked when people that never even seen our country can outsmart us and hop the border without anybody knowing and start a family in our territory. They are just trying to get away from there origin because it probably has a lot of problems but we don't 100% know that so we need more security the same place they got in by the same place we can put a station that tells when a person that isn't allowed in the country enters without permission or a passport.
DeleteTerrorism is definitely a huge problem all around the world especially in the U.S. If there was better and more security, then maybe there would be less problems with security.
DeleteGood Job brendan, A solution would be to have the border patrol a lot stricter. Like all of the countries should be like the US border I know some terror attacks happen here but it is nothing like some of the countries in Europe.
DeleteI agree with this issue, however I think we will only be able to slow down. Most terrorist attacks are picked out because of a high number of people.Making areas like this more secure harder to get close to/access might help stop this problem.I disagree with your solution of having troops stationed in cities that's what the police are for but maybe instead having more cameras and metal detectors in buildings that have a high concentrations of people. This would be a solution that would require all of us to help fund and build.
DeleteSmoking is very addicting. 1.3 billion people in the world smoke. In 1965 40% of people smoked but in 2012 only 18% smoked. More than 480,000 deaths have occured because of smoking. Now that a lot of teens are smoking trying to look cool. But really it’s killing their lungs
ReplyDeleteSmoking isn't just addicting but it is also leaves health problems. A solution to stop people from smoking especially teens is to aware teens about the crucial effects smoking can leave on a person.
DeleteAbby, great job! I like your statistics to show me how many people actually smoke. I think a solution is for people to stop influencing kids/teens to smoke because they they it's cool or they will be cool if they do. Many teens listen to music that has the language of smoking and doing things related to it. I think we can help stop teens from smoking if they surround themselves with people who don't smoke. Many friends especially close one will probably convince you to smoke with them and if you refuse they'll think you aren't a true friend. I know many people already know to surround yourself with good people to stay away from things that can end your life, but it can really save it if you do.
Deletesmoking is very dangerous as you've shown us and I think a good solution is to make more people aware of the effects smoking has on your body. If only teens knew how bad it was I think we could see a tremendous change in the amount of smokers. Many people smoke to be accepted so another solution is to find friends that wont influence you to smoke.
DeleteAbby, smoking can be addicting if you have been smoking for a long time. I like how you say at the end that teens are starting to smoke. A possible solution could be spreading more awareness on the fact that smoking isn't just looking cool. Teens nowadays are starting to pick up the bad habit. They don't know how much it is actually harming them until they get into a bad situation with it. Some people are getting peer pressured into doing it, and it's not ok. Health teachers can possibly talk more about the negative impact of smoking. Teens should find people that could benefit them not put them in danger. Overall you did a very good job.
DeleteSmoking is very dangerous it can effect your body and your lungs really bad. I think a solution is to get better rehab classes that teach the people about what they are doing to themselves when they are smoking. Also teach them how to stop smoking in there own ways. Like how they think is the best way for them to stop smoking. Let the person have a say in there rehab just not a huge part in it. So if you get them classes and do rehab for the people that smoke. They can do a one on one session with them to stop smoking and tell them about how it affects your body. So that could be a solution for smoking.
DeletePollution is very bad for the world. More than 127 million people live with bad air quality. 5 million people die from impure water. Plus, 40% of America's lakes are too polluted for human activities like swimming and fishing. On top of all that, 50% of people don't have access to clean water. We need to stop pollution to save the world.
ReplyDeleteMany different solutions have been attempted to stop pollution. One example is education. Educating the world about the consequences of pollution has been progressively increasing in the years of late. Education is definitely important, but people have to take decisive action. Many people already are attempting to change the world to use fuel that causes minimal pollution. I think that if we start using biodegradable plastics, then the platics could naturally degrade into the soil without intoxicating the earth.
DeleteThere are different solutions that been attempted to stop population and some of the solutions had worked before and some haven't but it still can work if people put action into it and make pollution stop. Some people are attempting to stop pollution. A solution could be work together and stop pollution together, work as a team not alone, the more people you have the more it will stop pollution because once other people see people working together to stop pollution they will want to help to stop pollution.
DeleteMost of these solution sometimes don't work. But they recently have found a good solution for all the plastic we use and don't care about. But they have found a new bacteria that can breakdown plastics and eats it. This could be one way to stop pollution. Another solution is that is we just all come together 3 days a month and pick up all the garbage around us and recycle them the right way we wouldn't have this problem anymore.
DeleteA new solution may be to provide every family with a wellness kit in the third world countries. That may include an water purifier, masks etc. But also for the government to have more funds, to get debris from the bottom of bodies of water, to improve the water. This could be an annual Earth Day ritual for the government, and maybe volunteers.
DeleteNatural disasters have been happening for a very long time. On October 11, 1138 a city in Syria began to tumble down as the ground began to shake. This was a problem because people lost their homes and even worse their lives. Natural disasters are still a problem to this day. In August 17, 2017 was the start of Hurricane Harvey, this inflicted $125 billion in damage. It affected many areas from Texas to the Eastern States.
ReplyDeleteNatural disasters really are a big problem, and sometimes it feels like they're completely random and out of the blue. Well, sometimes it's about the climate or the pent-up result of something natural, but other times it could be completely the cause of something that us humans did. The Dust Bowl, for example, was believed to have been a result of over farming and cramming too many animals onto a small amount of land. It was also said to have been caused by a lack of crop rotation, making the soil dry and infertile. One solution to this could be to rotate crops more regularly, which means to plant certain plants in certain areas at certain times until they are harvested and planted in a different area. Another problem is deforestation. Tornadoes are weakened by large amounts of trees, and when we deplete the number of trees by deforestation, tornadoes have more room to grow and develop and do more harm than if there were plenty of trees to shield us.
DeleteNatural disasters could be caused by pollution. One way to reduce these natural disasters are by stop using cars for short distance trips you could walk or ride a bike instead.
DeleteWhile natural disasters are mostly just that, natural, human activity has been shown to influence the extremity of these disasters. Climate change isn't just increasing temperatures, but also increased precipitation in some areas, or severe drought in others. Climate change is generally being caused by pollution. One solution to global warming is to use renewable energy such as wind, solar, or hydropower energy. This solution won't work without lowering the price of using this energy, though, so I think that would be a great place to start.
DeleteOne solution could be paying for sirens for the natural disasters. It might take some time and money but in the long run, it would be worth it because more lives would be saved. We already have sirens for tornados and nukes. We could also come up with a world wide plan, like a family plan. Another way is to create a wall Separating the sea from the shoar, this could stop the chances of title waves and hurricanes. If we put the money into it and make it strong enough than we could stop the disaster before it starts.
DeleteEven though there's no way to stop natural disasters, We could do things to prevent them. One way we could do this is to stop polluting. We could do things like stop throwing our trash out the window and start recycling anything that can be recycled to avoid further damage.
DeleteThe societal problem I am reading about is Deforestation. It might not seem like a big deal because trees grow back but it truly is a big deal. In the Amazon rainforest an area of trees poofed away two times the size of Oregon from 1970-2010. In Brazil it is estimated 10% of all the world's species live there. If deforestation keeps happening those animals will die. This is because trees keep places wet and out of the way of wildfires to occur.
ReplyDeleteDeforestation is a big problem. Those our our natural resources being cut down. Some solutions that I already known that is being tried is to cut down on the need for wood. Also we have made laws resticting plots of land from being messed with. One soultion that might work is by replanting the trees that we have cut down.
DeleteOne solution that might work would be putting a restriction on the amount of trees a company is allowed to cut down. Countries can put a limitation on the amount of deforestation that is taking place. This way, the country can also protect areas of land which are important or endangered animals habitat.
DeleteDeforestation occurs due to either a need for lumber or for land use. One possible solution is to reserve large portions of the world as protected from commercial activities. In addition, some other wood-alternatives can be developed, which may help put an end to this. However, this solution may only work if the lumber industry is completely ceasing in its operations, which probably won't ever happen. If we do fully end deforestation, we'll have to do something about the workers that now have lost their jobs. Investing in the education system would help these workers get back on their feet into the workforce. The lost biodiversity of current deforestation probably won't ever come back, but we could try to restore the environment to where it was by accelerating the natural process of succession. A consequence of ending deforestation is the looming lack of space on this planet. A solution to this is to further invest in infrastructure and in residential facilities to further accommodate a growing and aging humanity.
DeleteOne solution that has already been put in place is limiting the number of trees that can be cut down, but thats does not really fix all the damage that has already done. A solution that might work is making a law that say for every tree you cut down you need to plant a new one.
DeleteMy societal problem is kneeling for the American Flag. College athletes and professionals are ruining themselves, because they are ineffectively standing up for what they believe in. According to the NFL, almost every team has went down on their ticket sales by four percent. When you are averaging an attendance of 80,000 people, four percent is a lot. Also, when Colin Kaepernick and his friend/teammate Eric Ried kneeled for the national anthem, they were immediately hated by multiple fan bases and they are yet to be on an NFL team because of that incident.
ReplyDeleteI think a solution to this problem might be to either fine players for kneeling during the National Anthem. This would make some players not kneel for the national anthem but some players might not care about the fines they will get if they think they will stand up for their race. I think a big solution is to find better ways to fix racial tensions in the US so that players would want to support their country.
DeleteKenny, I have heard this issue talked about as an issue of proper workplace behavior. When these athletes are on the field or in the locker room they are at work, and as at any job there are expectations of how to act. Some solutions the NFL and teams have tried are fining or firing players for their actions. I do not believe this is the right way to handle the situation because the players have said that the NFL is limiting rights of free speech. I think that the players should be informed of the expectations held by their teams and if they go against them multiple times then an action like being fired. One of these expectations might be to respect symbols of the country.
DeleteOne solution is that just kick all of the players out of the NFL if they take a knee during the national anthem. That is just rude and disrespectful to our country. Also I think one way they tried to stop it is benching those players that were kneeling during the national anthem and also not paying them a lot of money. I'm not sure what caused it but i'm pretty sure that it has something to do with the president.
DeleteI have definitely heard about this before and I think one solution is to kick off the people that knee during the national anthem. It is disrespectful to our country but maybe except for kicking the players off the team maybe they can just bench them for a game or two.

ReplyDeleteLittering is one of the many societal problems now in days. There is about 254 million tons of garbage per year in the United States. The United States only recycles 317,774 pounds of paper each year. We use way more paper than that but we put it in the trash! Human laziness is one of the main reasons we have so much trash on the ground. We approximately throw out 1,606 pounds of garbage each year, some of that garbage goes into the garbage and some gets thrown on the ground.
One solution that could help littering in the United States is composting. When families have leftover food, instead of throwing it away, it can be composted. This is good for the environment and can help the soil. This also causes less garbage and less damage to the earth. This really is a solution for less garbage but to solve for less littering the US could place more garbage cans in public places. With more trash cans people might have less of a chance to throw something onto the ground.
DeleteOne solution to littering is to create bigger punishments if people are caught doing this. This should decrease the amount of littering people do.To go along with that, having more available trash cans would make it more convenient to get rid of garbage. Even if people are lazy, if there's a trash can right next to them, they'll probably just throw out their garbage.
DeleteI think that giving bigger punishments could help, but only when people/ Police officers see it. Most people can litter and get away with it easily. A solution that kind of goes with that is maybe having camera or officers on the street so they can catch everything. Another solution to this problem could be letting the people know how littering is affecting not just the environment, but how it is affecting us too. Maybe if people were aware of how badly it is affecting us they would litter a lot less.
DeleteI am doing the same thing for my societal problem but I think a solution would be to put more trash cans in the area. I say this because if people hold their trash for a long period of time they would just get tired of holding it and drop it on the ground if they don't see a trash can near them. But if we put more trash cans around different areas there will be less littering unless someone is to lazy to just walk to a trash can to throw something out.
DeleteOverfishing is a very big problem in our society. 7 % of fish are depleted. And 1% of fish are in recovery of depletion. In 1992 cod fish were commercially extinct, and because of this a lot of fishermen lost money. Because some fishermen only go after one kind of fish. Like the cod fish. Fish are very important part of the health of the ocean. For example the Parrot fish eats algae, and without it coral reefs would die. If one specie of fish would die out or go extinct than it could damage all of the fish that are in our seas. Because all fish rely on each other one way or another if it is for food or helping them find food. So if one fish goes excited than all of the fish could be damaged.
ReplyDeleteA possible solution could be to limit the amount that fishermen can fish. But this alone isn't enough because fish must be thrown overboard if there are too many. This causes thousands of dead fish to be dumped into the ocean, which is very harmful. This solution could work well with using more sustainable methods to fish, which would help fishermen easily come under quota, while raising the prices of fish.
DeleteFrom Mikael Reed:
DeleteA possible solution is to fish less. If we can take less fish in the sea or pond, our prices will increase and we would have more money.I understand about why we catch for fish. I understand that if we fish a lot,not only it will destroy the fish's lives but, it will destroy our lives. So if we want to keep our lives, we have to catch a little bit of fish.
Good job Ethan, I think one solution is to put a reasonably stricter limit on how many fish you can catch when you go out fishing. Another one would be having a certain amount of people fishing for a certain kind of fish. Like you said the cod fish was almost commercially extinct they need to give some of these fish species a break with fishing them all of the time, there is a lot of fish in the sea that you can eat you don't need to be fishing cod all of the time.
DeleteSuggestion by Riley Mitchell:
DeleteGreat job Ethan. I think one solution could be laws to limit the amount of fish a person can catch per year. Another solution is to make some parts of oceans, seas, and large lakes offlimits for fishing.
I think that we have tried in the pass to make thing right with Muslims but now they are bombing everywhere like at the concert with Ariana Grande. I know that not all Muslims are bad,but we don't know who is good or who is bad.
ReplyDeleteAmerica is coined as the land of the free. When immigration first began, many people came from Europe to escape religious persecution. Now that the problem is coming to America, we realize that the United States aren't truly free, and we aren't truly "united." A solution I believe might work to at least quiet religious persecution, would be teaching people about as many religions as possible. Jewish and Muslim religions are not uncommon at all, so why is it that so many people don't know much about the people who worship them? They certainly aren't terrible people because of their religion, so I think increasing lessons in school Social Studies and History classes are important. If students are informed on the different aspects of world religions early on, they can tell their families at home what they learned, and form their own opinions. In schools, we have fellow students from a variety of religions, and we can learn to respect our peers. Often times, the news portrays certain religions as negative, but I think people are more likely to understand and learn about accepting religions through education.
ReplyDeleteElizabeth, this is definitely an issue that I feel many don't pay attention to. I think a solution to religious persecution is education. If we educate people on what's right and wrong about religion, we might be able to dial back on the ignorance. We need to make a change now and education may be the solution.
ReplyDeleteElizabeth, religious persecution and intolerance is a huge issue. I think a solution could be that students learn more about Jewish and Muslim religions. A lot of people don't understand or get what happens in other countries like Afghanistan. A lot of religious persecutin of there education goes on in Afghanistan. A lot of childeren don't have the right that we have now. They have a lot of wars and violence in Afghanistan about there religous stuff and more. So if we get to know about other countries more and what they have to deal with that could be a solution.
ReplyDeleteWe could try spreading the word, Kristians who don´t have a bible but do have a computer can find the bible online. People in islam are trying to do that but the US citizens are shutting them down. But if enough citizens stand up for izlamains who have done nothing wrong, people could make a difference. With enough people we can do anything. We are in a religious war with no end, it started in Egypt and is still being fought today. But with enough people we can end it. So who agrees? If we stand up together we can face an army, with enough people it could be 83 us:1 enemy in a way like the war between poland and germany, 40 german soldier = 1 poland soldier.
