“Listen to me, Jonas.  They can’t help it.  They know nothing.”

“You said that to me once before.”

“I said it because it’s true.  It’s the way they live.  It’s the life that was created for them.”

What public issue from our society do you wish people would wake up and understand the way that you do?    In one paragraph:

  • explain your stand,

  • provide specific detail from only one online source where you found evidence to support your stand, and

  • copy and paste the url of your source(s) at the end of your paragraph.

  1. Did you know that over 100,000 elephants died from poaching between the years 2012 -2017. That is a world record of elephant deaths. Many elephants get hunted for the tusk's made of ivory but they're not the only ones. Rhinos also get hunted for their horns also made of ivory which is why they are also a common target for poachers. The poachers go after their horns and tusks that can be smashed and selled as trinkets or jewelry to tourists. There is a group of six rhinos who were trapped by poachers but rangers saved them and brought them to an animal reserve and rehabilitated them. When they were found their horns were cut off and you could see the inside of their nose but the kind people at the animal reserve nursed them back to health and still are taking care of them.

  2. For decades the idea of an apocalypse has been popular in books, movies, and almost every media there is. The idea of which a catastrophic event causing society to crumble has always been an interest to many. So it makes sense that there are many people out there who are preparing for the worst. Professor Lewis Dartnell, the writer of ¨ The Knowledge: How to Rebuild Civilization in the Aftermath of a Cataclysm, says that an apocalypse is very unlikely in our lifetime but he advises us to be prepared and use these tips to survive the apocalypse. One most necessary things you need for survival is a clean water source and most people will stockpile bottled water even though it is quite easy to filter dirty water. The easiest way is if you're in a sunny area to buy a clear bottle of water in the sunlight and the UV rays of the sun will kill most if not all the germs. However, if you're not in a sunny area you can use a single drop of bleach or chlorine to kill almost all the germs. But be careful, with too much bleach and you could poison yourself. Food is also a necessity for survival, however, no matter how much-canned goods you hoard you will eventually need to become self-sufficient. So rather than buying canned food, buy lots of seed and soil, so you can be self-efficient and grow your food. Plus, seeds have lots of protein and vitamins. Finally, even if the apocalypse never comes, and the four horsemen stay afar you can still have a hobby that could help you if ever needed. Forging is a very rewarding experience, and in a destroyed world it could also be very useful for crafting tools and weaponry. Woodworking is also a very fun hobby for making crafts and tools but, like forging it, wood will be extremely useful in the future. So even if the apocalypse may never be seen in our lifetime, we can still be prepared for the worst, and hope for the best.

  3. Do you like visiting the zoo and seeing the animals? Well poaching is slowly ending it. Poaching is the illegal hunting of animals, people can smuggle the parts of the animals through airports and get money off of the parts. “It is a real pity that we continue to see poaching of rhino in our flagship National Park. I think it may be more to do with internal systems not functioning effectively. Resources are pumped into Etosha, but still, we see cases going up. I believe a change in strategy and involving more of the communities neighboring the Park holds the solution to poaching.” says MEFT. Which is an organization to stop poaching. People poach rhinos because of their tusks that are made of ivory which can be sold for a lot of money. Did you know that rhino poaching surged by 93% in 2022? Also 1252 rhinos were poached between the years 2017-2019, imagine how many are poached now. This has caused poaching of rhinos to go down only because there are few left to poach. In the white rhino species there are only 2 females left after the last male was poached in 2018. In 2022 there were 448 rhinos killed and only 132 people were arrested for it.

  4. Imagine you were taking a stroll in the Savannah, it's sunny outside, you feel good. Just to walk across a hippo, teeth ripped out, scratched and skinned laying in despair. This is happening in a lot of Savannahs nowadays; hippos are losing their homes, and thier lives just for money. John Seager says, “And while only time will tell how great the battle for the hippo is” Which is a very powerful quote. Ivory is a material that comes from elephant tusks, and rhino horns, hippos teeth have a very simmalar material. Since Ivory is banned people have come to poaching hippos. Ivory is being snuck into airports now, and people are getting arrested so poaching hippos is what we have come to; its disgusting. Did you know that Ivory can be used as Chinese medicine? Hippos have a terrible reputation; so no
one is really noticing this as much as they should. Poaching is terrible and should come to a complete end.

  5. Have you heard of inflation? Inflation is when the prices go up across the economy. Inflation is ruining lives. Prices are Skyrocketing, the prices from 2020-2023 have gone up 1.70%. If you also invest in stocks, your luck is out. Inflation is infecting stocks making them much less valuable. There isn't just one type of inflation, there are many. Many stores are going out of stock and business because they can't keep their shelves stocked. The average job pay per hour is 15$. And with inflation, it's really hard to buy things to support their family if you were just making it by, now that inflation is striking you might even become homeless.

Child abuse victims most of their pets will get hurts 88% of the time. No matter the pets that people have most. Of the pets that are abused the most are cats and dogs. there are people out there that want animal abuse to stop, so there was a law made about it so people will be punished if they abuse their pets or abuse pets in general.

  8. Have you ever wondered if you could get sick just from drinking water? Well, about 1 billion people each year get sick from drinking polluted water. Also, in 2050 fresh water demand is going to be 1/3 greater, which means more people will be getting sick. Some of the top polluters that could be a little more mindful are agriculture, sewage, oil pollution, and radioactive substances, so most pollution is from people. So now you might be asking, "How can I help?" Well there are many ways but here is just a few. You could recycle plastic (and anything else that can be recycled), you can properly dispose of items like your pills, and you can maintain your car so it doesn't leak. So are you going to help stop pollution?

  12. When people think of exercise they quickly think about lifting weights. But when you exercise there are only three important factors in exercising; strength, endurance, and flexibility. Exercise can not just help the mind but it can also help your body. Some benefits of exercising is getting stronger muscles and bones, lowers chance of type 2 diabetes, and it lowers blood pressure. When you don't get enough exercise and sit home all day every day lots of bad things that you wouldn't want happening to you could happen. You could get over weight, get stressed out from being home so much, went you sit inside and don't do much all day your mind tells you to eat because you have nothing else to do which then could lead to unwanted fat in your body. From kids ages 6 to 17 they should get 60 or more minutes of exercise. Exercising can be anything from taking a mile jog, to walking your dog, to playing a sport.

  13. How much pollution do you pollute on a daily basis - alot? A little? It's okay if you don't know, but human pollution is killing hundred upon thousands of marine animals each year. You! Yes, you could be killing a marine animal just by having a PLASTIC bottle of water. Plastic is the number one killer of marine animal. Us humans are negatively impacting marine animal senses, so marine animals idolize their senses. "It's hard for us to imagine a how marine creatures within their world. What's clear is that the picture is complex, and that human-induced imapcts make that even more challenging."

  14. Racism is a big deal that nobody realizes is a problem, except for the victims. You know that about 65% of Americans are racist, but don't realize? 68% of racial involved assaults are verbal, which may lead to the victim being depressed. 12% of racial involved assaults are physical, which in other words people are beating up each other for being different. 11% of the assaults are people being spat and coughed on, with the coronavirus going around is dangerous. 9% is discrimination judging on group, class or differences.

  17. From Jameson:

When thinking of animal abuse, it might be different for some. Some might think of people hitting there animals, while others think its leaving the animal outside on cold, stormy nights. While these are forms of abuse, they seem like flick's compared to all the other animal crimes within this world.
