“Listen to me, Jonas. They can’t help it. They know nothing.”
“You said that to me once before.”
“I said it because it’s true. It’s the way they live. It’s the life that was created for them.”

Modern human civilization has only been around for 1% of Earth's history, and during that time, carbon dioxide in the atmosphere has increased by a whopping 40%. Carbon dioxide is a greenhouse gas that is emitted from factories. Sure, it occurs naturally, but human industry produces more carbon dioxide than is removable by natural causes. The carbon dioxide gathers up in the atmosphere and causes the greenhouse effect. This lets sunlight into Earth, but blocks it from escaping back out. As a result, the Earth gets warmer, which is known as global warming. This itself is a big problem, but the increasing temperature of the planet causes climate change. As you can see, all of these problems are already connected, but climate change starts up a whole new chain. The changing climate patterns cause melting glaciers and ice, which results in sea level rising. This rise causes flooding. Climate change also causes wildfires, sea warming, and the moving of animals.

Would you want to wake up with an incessant desire to start taking those pills in the bathroom? Drug addiction is just that. It's a disease, affecting your brain to want to take drugs all the time. It's caused by only one thing, taking drugs, but there are many, many, causes to taking them, which could be almost anything, like taking them to get your mind off of something, people coercing you into that, anything, really. And, the signs of being addicted are anything but inconspicuous. Some signs are not caring about your body (like not showering or brushing teeth), being in a bad mood a lot, and changing friends often, to name but a few. But wait! If you're addicted, you're not helpless. It's treatable via counselling, to help understand and learn how to break away from addiction, and medication, to help with the withdrawal. Also, if you think you're at risk for addiction, you can go to prevention programs, which have education services, which can help preempt addiction in the long run.

Most people don't know who Maya Moore is. I bet you don't even know who she is. you don't know who she is because no one watches women's sports. Maya Moore is a four title winner, nine rings won, and in almost half the years Lebron James won three titles. No one knows who Maya Moore is because women's sports are not as appreciated as men's sports. There is a list of the most popular sports players in the world. There are only twelve women on that list, and eleven of them are under the 80s spot. "Unfortunately, half the women on the list don't even make an appearance until the late 80s" said Orberline Review. People don't see how much an impact women have made in sports. Womens sports do not get enough appreciation as men's sports.

Do you think you’re being underpaid? Well if you’re teaching you definitely are. This situation has worsened over time. It’s also a big concern to not just teachers themselves, but a lot of other adults too. Weekly wages have been flat since 1996 while the wage penalty is still growing. The wage penalty in 1996 was 6.1 percent, but in 2021 it was 23.5 percent. This financial penalty is stopping students from entering teaching positions. If there's no teachers around to teach how will future kids learn?

Did you know that Bioterrorism has been here since 14th century B.C.? Bioterrorism was first used when the Hittites sent infected rams to their enemies. "People have described the next hundred years as the century of biology" says the Author of Bioterrorism: Health Sector Alertness. Bioweapons have been a threat to humanity for many centuries. Bioterrorism is when a group of terrorists release a pathogen on people, plants, or animals. Bioterrorists target the biggest urban cities so they can effect more people. Bioterrorists will attack closed or confined areas. In a bioterrorist attack, any part of the country is vulnerable. A bioterrorist attack does not have to be done in person, it can be done by robot delivery. To effect more people bioterrorists likely just contaminate huge food and water supplies. Some signs of bioterrorism would be many cases of diseases or death. Bioterrorists may attack because of their religion or to take down a country/government because that is not who they wanted to be in charge. Bioterrorism has been an enduring issue for centuries now but no one thinks of it as a real problem, but this is one of the biggest issues in the world.

Have you ever wondered why or how someone was so good at a sport for their age. Well that mat not be the case. People have been reclassing for years. This is where parents hold back their kids so their kids have an athletic advantage is sports. Parents tend to do this because it gives their child a better chance to get a scholarship or college offer. Parents saying "what strategy can I use in order to give my child an upper hand in sports." This is an on going problem that needs to be stopped.
ReplyDeleteDo you think children should have recess all the way through school? The US Health Department recommends children ages 6-17 should have at least an hour of exercise per day. Recess would play a vital role in achieving those 60 minutes. Dr. Scott McGinnis who is an instructor in neurology at Harvard Medical School stated "Parts of the brain that control memory and thinking are larger in people who exercise regularly". Likewise researchers Kimberly A. Clevenger and Karin A. Pfeiffer found that recess can contribute up to 70% of a kids weekday physical activity in their 2020 study. A Brain and Cognition journal study from 2014 said "Physical activity can boost children's ELA skills." If children had recess all the way through school then they wouldn't have as much energy that teachers complain about them having. This would mean less detention and staying after school for misbehaving, or not getting work done on time. If you fight for recess the future children will have less trouble paying attention because their energy will be used up from recess.

Healthy food is $1.50 more than unhealthy food. Seems like a lot? Well yes it is for a family it cost $569 to $1298 for food that is for home. Doesn't that $1.50 seem worse. If you think that you'll just get unhealthy food well 40% of Americans are obese. This can cause Heart disease, and type two diabetes. All of this just by picking unhealthy over healthy food. So why do we pick unhealthy over health? Well unhealthy food tasted better, and doesn't ice cream, cookies, and chips tastes better then some brosur sports. Am not telling you to stop eating unhealthy food all together. It's okay to treat yourself sometimes or eat out; but just don't eat unhealthy over health all the time. Mabe eat at home more than eat out.

What is one problem that is very common in teens/pre-teens today is? One word. Stress. What could teens possibly be worried about? LGBTQ+ representation, extracurricular activities, not enough equality for all, assignments, essays, tests, homework, trying their best to keep grades up, friendships, relationships, school shootings, the environment, trying to figure out who they are, their family, and their own personal health, just to name a few. Technology can also add on to that. Ok, teens are stressed, but why worry about them? Well, for one, it has a huge impact on their mental health. It even affects their physical health. In what ways? Well, it can cause mood changes, decrease or increase in appetite/eating, frequent grinding teeth, stomach aches, headaches, jaw pain, more worrying, losing interest in previous interests, tired more often, less motivation, insomnia, and trouble staying on task. Dr. Beresin says “I don’t have a single conversation with a young person where we don’t talk about worries about the planet, worries about the world they’re inheriting: viruses, climate change, economic downturn, marginalization, being shot or assaulted.” So are there any ways that parents can help or ways to help teens try to get through it? Of course! Parents can help by telling their teens positive things, helping calm their kids down when stressed, asking their kid what is on their mind, listening to and supporting their kid, and some coping techniques for teens include art, calming activities, and even yoga! But we still need more.

Have you ever sit, drained in class and unable to focus? Almost all schools higher than elementary don't give breaks during the day. Sure, there is lunch and P.E, but those are both short and P.E is not always everyday. Breaks during classes bring many benefits to teacher's and students. While taking a break, students minds are processesing what they have learned. Teachers who give students breaks see positive results. Pauses in classes that give kids time and space to move around are extremely helpful too. Physical activity improves attention, reduces stress, and can increase brain activity. During school most kids are not allowed to talk or interect much with other students. Kids need to have time to socialize because it helps form problem-solving skills. Breaks provide that time. There are many problems that come with continuous school days, and short breaks are a great way to solve them.

Video games can cause extreme amounts of aggression. video games like mortal combat are violent, which according to people who played the game, made them more aggressive to people. some studies show that college students who played violent video games like doom and others caused more aggression and therefor got punished more by having a loud noise more in their ear than the people who played non violent games. since violent video games feature blood, gore, and other stuff it makes them wanna try it in real life so it creates thoughts in their mind that wants them to do the stuff and they try and do it. people have said that violent tv makes people still aggressive just not as much as violent video games, because in violent video games, they are doing the actions that people are doing. https://www.apa.org/news/press/releases/2000/04/video-games#:~:text=WASHINGTON%20%2D%20Playing%20violent%20video%20games,Psychological%20Association's%20(APA)%20Journal%20of
ReplyDeleteSexism is everywhere. One day you might even experience it yourself. Whether it’s weird stares from men, not being able to participate in something because you are a woman or even worse. The sooner we get rid of sexism the sooner our society is whole.
ReplyDelete“The sooner we understand that the lack of women in leadership roles holds back not only women, but all people, the sooner we will be able to advance society as whole.” Amy Klobuchar states. Also, Keisha N. Blain says that patriarchy is one of the biggest challenges facing women in the U.S. Patriarchy is when a man has power over a woman. “Women in the United States who are caregivers- for children, parents, spouses, siblings or extended family members- have two full time jobs, while trying to compete with men who have one.” - Annie Marie Slaughter. Lot’s of women have bad mental health because of being sexually assaulted. If men are too busy being hypocrites, then who will help raise our future children if women are destroyed?

ReplyDeleteDoes the word “inflation” mean anything to you? If you said yes, you're probably one of the thousands of people in the United States who suffers from inflation just about every day. There are a lot of bad things about inflation. For staters, it will reduce the purchasing power of most consumers. Purchasing power is the ability to buy services and goods like phones and a consumer is the buyer of a product. It also decreases income and makes the poor suffer even more with each passing year. Now probably wondering “why sould I care?”. Because your likely suffering from inflation right now too. Most people nowadays have to work two full time jobs that pay a decent amount of money in order to afford a house. So I think that I speak everyone in the United States when I say this has to stop now!

Have you ever wondered what it felt like to receive information from somebody, but not be able to perceive it? A big majority of people often attempt to push ADHD aside when it comes to a problem in someone's life; no matter if it’s at school, work, or home. ADHD can make things difficult for people, especially kids in school. Eliana, a kid with severe ADHD, struggled to do her assignments in school due to her low attention span caused by her ADHD. Due to the symptoms of ADHD, it can be hard for kids to be able to focus on things like schoolwork, homework, and even a normal conversation. All of this happens due to the hyperactive symptoms of ADHD that tend to travel together. These symptoms include struggle with organization, detail-oriented work, and being able to focus on a task. ADHD can make it hard for people to interact with the world in the way most people expect, and is the main reason why people who have it struggle to do things like socializing and tasks that require full concentration so much.

Plastic is something we interact with on a daily basis, but we never tend to pay attention to the dark side of it. Fairly soon, there will be more plastic than fish in the ocean. That's INSANE considering how gigantic our ocean is. This is a tremendous problem in our society. Nobody seems to care though. Especially the oil industry who is planning to up plastic production by 40% over the next decade. Help our community by minimizing your plastic usage and stop problematic plastic production.
ReplyDeleteYou have probably seen car crashes. But, did you know that 1/3 of those are caused by drunk driving? Getting behind the wheel can seem simple, but it takes a lot of responsibility. Many lives have been lost due to the sleepiness and blurred vision of drunk drivers. People that have high alcohol levels have slow reactions, bad motor skills, horrible concentration, even worse vision, and more. All of these symptoms cause car crashes. A little bit of alcohol can change you drastically. Even if you think you are okay, alcohol takes 30 minutes to two hours to be absorbed into you. If you are addicted to alcohol, treating it will not only prevent further car crashes, but may also add a few more years to your life. Alcohol can be very dangerous. It can kill you and maybe a few other innocent souls.

Have you ever noticed when your parents get done pumping the gas tank you look to see how much it is? Well the prices of gas have gone up some. It was first at 3.36$ then it bumped up too 4.62$, and that is just for one tank now, If you have a big car it´s more money for them because your car would need for gas to be able to drive to be able to drive to work or the store, and most of the time now when your parents get done the price is mostly up too 72$ per tank.
ReplyDeleteDo you think children should have homework even if they are in school for 8 hours a day? Researchers have found that homework puts more pressure and stress on children. After school children get a bizarre amount of homework. Some don't have a problem with doing homework every night but some might find it troubling. Overloading children with a bunch of homework makes them lose their interest for school and learning.

ReplyDeleteHow many of us buy Fast Food when coming back from school, work, etc? Pretty much all of us at some point. The consumption of Fast Food in America is highly of the charts.
ReplyDeleteThe CDC states that about 9 in 10 Americans consume too much sodium. How does Fast Food restaurants get this much customers? Well, it's through their advertisements! During a Super Bowl, Soccer Match and even in TV shows. They always have a new flavor or new type of salty food, this keeps everyone hooked. Let's also not forget the sales; no one likes to buy anything expensive meaning sales get us hooked. The drinks with the food is also a problem. A study by the CDC showed 5 in 10 Americans consume at least one sugary drink a day. The Fast Food restaurants do not know what this is doing to us. They just don't care. Let us not let this unhealthy life go on forever.

If anything, it has to be LGBT.
ReplyDeleteI'm not saying it's bad but, exposing that side to young, developing, growing children can harm them.
It's just not right to expose children to LGBT. It just confuses them more and might even cause them to make life changing decisions.
And this gendering and identity thing needs to calm down. To be honest the gendering montage just makes it hard to teach children and make them understand what a boy and a girl is. If gendering goes so far as to applying itself in books used to teach children, it could change the entire education system and ruin education. Because, in children books, gender is used to help guide the kid by telling them which individual is a boy and which individual is a girl. Well, what if there is a "Transgender" person?
How will you explain that your kid?
