“Listen to me, Jonas.  They can’t help it.  They know nothing.”
“You said that to me once before.”
“I said it because it’s true.  It’s the way they live.  It’s the life that was created for them.”

What public issue from our society do you wish people would wake up and understand the way that you do?    In one paragraph:

describe the issue as you see it,
provide specific details from at least one online source where you found evidence to prove the existence of the issue and
copy and paste the url of your source(s) at the end of your paragraph.

  1. You may see kids running around playing with fake guns, but have you ever thought about how many people actually die from gun violence each year? Nearly 250,000 people lost their life to gun violence last year; and the U.S “ranks high” in those deaths. In the U.S, there has already been in 2019 about 26 deaths and 3 injuries in the past 3 days related to gun violence; if death rates continue like this, there would be about 2,418 deaths per month in America. Around the world there are 6 countries who make up over half of the gun violence deaths, and America is one of them; we make up about 14.8% of the deaths from the 6 countries; that’s excluding the deaths from war, terrorism, executions, and police. I do not oppose owning guns, but I do believe that there should be more gun and safety laws on possessing a gun. Hopefully this problem will soon be solved.

  2. What's your biggest fear? Snakes? Spiders? The truth is these creatures are kind, loving, and playful. They won't hurt you, But still people are afraid of them from what they've seen or what they know about about one species. But have you ever wondered about the other kinds, like say the garter snake it may look like a mean scary animal, but it's actually harmless.(wash hands after holding)Also the chances of you dying from a snakebite is one in five million. What about spiders? Their harmless to, even tarantula's, they will only hurt you if they feel threatened. Fun fact their two front feelers make it look like they have 5 legs. Also the jumping Spider may give you a scare with all of its hopping, but it's harmless. Over 5,000 snakes and spiders are killed a year out of fear, please people WAKE UP AND SMELL THE COFFEE! Stop letting fear, and panic take over. Follow your common sense, and don't let fear stop you.

    1. I definitely Agree with this. The human race has so many superstitions about things that aren't harmful at all.We make up thing based on what things look like.Like the dolphin. The dolphin looks very cute so we approach it but along with humans, bottle nose dolphins are the only species that can kill with no natural reason. Plus they have extensive knowledge so they are very dangerous.Fear is something that is essential to human survival and helps us grow and learn from dangerous and safe.It can also be very irrational like a fear of bunnies or the dark. These come from experiences in your life as in a bad dream as a child might cause a fear of the dark or rabbit biting you at an early time in your life might cause a fear of rabbits. So this is definitely accurate.

    2. I agree with you beverly. Its like snakes and spiders are murders. Most people just see spiders snakes as killers and as a harmful species, but their not.In fact most spiders consume bugs that plague us or invade us,for instance mosquitoes.Mosquitoes kill about one million people each year from the harmful diseases they spread.Spiders consume the insects you have in your home such as,Cockroaches, flies,And the biggest culprit mosquitoes.Mosquitoes harm many of us.Spiders help the problem tremendously.Snakes also help out a lot, snakes eat small rodents such as mice, rats, rabbits and birds.Wild Mice just come in our home and invade our space. They eat food that they can get to, naw or chew on import wires or cords.which can cause major problems.Wake up and see that snakes and spiders are not harmful. They have emotions and feelings just like you and me.

  3. Have you seen the video of the turtle fighting pain as a straw is being removed from its nose? People don't realize how bad pollution is in the oceans. Humans dump around 1.4 billion pounds of garbage into the ocean every year. More than 100,000 sea mammals are killed every year. Sources like, sewage, industrial waste, and oil spills are the cause of marine life dying. Before making the decision to use a straw, think about the marine life your hurting.

    1. I totally agree! I wasn't even concerned until you brought it up. I found out that the Indian ocean has 1.3 million pieces of trash. The North Atlantic ocean is even worse it has 930 BILLION pieces of trash. Imagine trying to swim through that it is like swimming through a dump.

  4. Water pollution is a big problem it's killing the environment, and it's making the world unfit for living creatures. All living creatures need water to survive. I'm sure you've heard of Trash Island, the floating island of trash in the ocean that's larger than Texas. No, you probably didn't know that thousands and thousands of marine animals die each year because of ocean pollution. If your like most people, you probably don't care and don't know why its such a problem. You probably assume that other people are going to fix it for you, but think of it this way. If everyone thinks someone else is going to do it for them, than nobody is going to do anything about it. I bet you didn't know that every year about of plastic is dumped into our ocean. This quote is from a man named Nicholas Mallos: “Plastics now pollute all dimensions of our oceans from the sea surface to the seafloor, on remote beaches and in Arctic sea ice. The impact ocean plastics have on marine species is well documented, but increasingly scientists are concerned about the potential threat of plastics to species at the top of the marine food chain: humans.”. This is why water pollution is such a big problem. This is why EVERYBODY should do their part to help end pollution. here are the websites I used:

    1. S3rvivor I strongly agree with your claim for water pollution. Because many sea animals eat plastic or get stuck on plastic or die. And billions of garbage is going into the sea water. And I like how you said that humans are on top of the marine food chain.

    2. I completely agree with you. Some fish in the sea use the water to send vibrations and communicate with oils in the water they can not send those same vibrations. 1.8 million gallons of gasoline was dumped in to the ocean after the bp disaster. Pollution in the ocean in a big problem that we should a contribute to.

  5. Have you ever thought about how many adults and teenagers build the habit of smoking? Well over 16 million Americans get diseases caused by smoking. Every one person that dies, 30 people live with smoking related illnesses. Second hand smoking is very bad for you too. Most second hand smoking occurs in homes and work sites. Second hand smoking can cause ear infections, severe asthma attacks, bronchitis, and infant death syndrome in children! i hope that people see how much smoking is causing.

  6. I posted a comment above but I want to fix some things from my post and make my comment more about abortion instead of about republicans. So here is my revised post:

A public issue in today's world is whether abortion should be legal or illegal. The way I see the issue of abortion is that I do not support it. I believe abortion hurts the baby and mother and I believe abortion causes long term negative side effects for the woman who had the abortion. Many democrats stress the woman's right to choose whether she wants to keep her baby or not but I believe after conception or fertilization happens it is the baby's right to have chance at life and not the mother's right. The baby is a creation of God and should not be killed while it is in the mother's stomach. Many democrats think that since the baby is still developing that it is not actually considered a human yet but I disagree with that. I think the baby has a soul and it is no one else's right to decide they want to end its chance at life before it is even born yet. Many people say "life begins at fertilization and development of the embryo begins at stage 1 when a sperm fertilizes an ococyte and together they form a zygote." "The development of a human being begins with fertilization, a process by which two highly specialized cells, the spermatozoon from the male and the oocyte from the female, unite to give rise to a new organism, the zygote." I believe many people need to wake up and realize that they are encouraging women to have a procedure that harms innocent humans lives. There is scientific research that supports that there are little fingers and toes already developing when the abortion takes place. Many people say the baby does not feel any pain during the procedure but it isn't true and the woman can suffer negative mental affects for life after having an abortion.

    1. Trivika, a better option is adoption by giving the child that you do not want to a loving family that can give the child a good life. If you are going to do what it takes to make a baby then you need to be responsible and do the right thing. Abortion is wrong and you will end up regretting it.

      Delete
    2. I don't agree with you. If what you said is true then your mom can decide she doesn't want you anymore and kill you at any time. Its really not much different. Its not the womans right to decide to end an innocent baby's life when the mom created the child she needs to step up and take responsibility for it and if she can't do that and does not want the child then she should find a responsible family who will give the child a good life. Ending the life is not the solution. If you don't want a child then don't have sex. I know of people who have severe mental health and depression problems linked to abortion and they regret it for there entire life.

  7. Have you ever wondered what fast food can do to your health? Most Americans today get at least half of their calories from processed fast foods. According to experts, these food can cause high blood pressure, high cholesterol, obesity, diabetes, heart disease and/or stroke. Most fast food contains lots of carbohydrates and sugar, but very little nutrition. This can cause unexpected weight gain and type 2 diabetes. In addition, fast foods are high in sodium (salt) and trans fats. This can lead to high cholesterol and high blood pressure. So, all Americans should be more careful with what they eat. On occasional fast food meal is okay, but frequent trips to McDonald’s, Burger King, KFC, and Wendy’s will sabotage your health.

They put so many preservatives in your food and it doesn't give you any actual nutrition at all. I actually feel sick after I eat McDonald's. My mom refuses to buy there milkshakes because they arent even milkshakes. Legally McDonalds has to call them " shakes" and they can not add the word milk. If I'm going to get a milkshake I go to Five Guys or Stewarts because theirs are made with real milk and ice cream. Fast food has so many artificial chemicals and bad bacteria in their food.

  8. Have you ever heard the statement “the average women makes 80¢ to the mans dollar.” This statement has just been considered a fact at this point in time. I personally used to just believe just because I heard it so much on tv, and I’ve even heard on talk shows watching television with my mother or sister. But this might just be a stretched opinion rather than a dependable fact. Most women stop gaining in their salary when they hit the age thirty, but they outpace men in salary growth up to that age. But it is not their fault. Lots of women start having children at that age where they will have less time to work. Because they have to spend more time to take care of their children, and even if the women worked in the same facility for instance in a hospital they do not work the same jobs 89% of registered nurses are female while 82.4% of physicians are male. Another example is that 86% of elementary school teachers are female while majority of highschool teachers and up are male so that argument of they work the same jobs is invalid. And if they do work the same jobs females who lots of the time raise the kids more than males, and work less hours of the day thus lowering their pay. To conclude the gap is nowhere near as big as it seems, but a lot of females do not make as much as men and it is still is not right.

  10. I agree with your statement. You're right that spending too much money on clothes is a waste and useless. Also, it isn't the most practical thing to do as well. And here is a fact from the same source that you used. "I have bought a 30 pound Armani Exchange plain white T-Shirt that hasn't survived a few washes, and I have bought several 2.50 pound Prim ark crew neck t-shirt in a number of colors that have fitted better, maintained their shape through hundreds of washes, with some bobbling". This just proves that your opinion is right. It is a waste of money to buy an expensive shirt rather than buying a cheap shirt. It's not about quantity, it's about quantity.

  11. Minimum wage is around $12.50/hour, and that's not very much and some people have to support a family with that salary. Other people make up to 10,000 a week. Those people are very lucky some of them are you tubers and some are models and other professions. Minimum wage is not very good because with a 40 hour week you make about $300 a week. so the minimum wage has to go up.

  13. I agree that some of the jobs that could save or help us the most don't get enough credit or payment. I also agree that people and the government don't appreciate the jobs that do so much more than we think. Jobs like Garbage collectors, Janitors, waiters etc... are in those category. If the government doesn't change the minimum wage, at least give the workers attention or credit. "Given the widespread nature of wage theft and the dearth of resources to combat it, most cases go unreported. Thus, an estimated $15 billion in desperately needed income for workers with lowest wages goes instead into the pockets of shady bosses." This just shows the ignorance of the bosses that they work for. We need to show these people a great amount of credit because some if not, all of these workers have a family to feed. We can do that by tipping the waiter 20% or just basically making their job easier.

  14. From Emily Z:

I agree with you. About 40% to 50% of the Earth’s original forest has been lost and the lack of trees can lead to an increase in greenhouse gases. About 18% of greenhouse gasses are caused by deforestation and 1one of the factors for climate change. The consequences for this could become more severe if we don’t stop and reverse what we’ve done. Trees also help with the water level. They help regulate the water cycle, and due to deforestation, there will be less water returned to the soil. This causes dryer soil and the inability to grow crops.

  15. I agree with you that taking an animal's life to make clothes isn't the right thing to do. Did you know that there are a lot of websites out there to help end this? One website I found is: https://www.animalcrueltyexposurefund.org/animals-used-for-clothing/

    The article says that:
"Billions of animals are slaughtered and processed each year, for the “Fashion Industry”. Whether we’re speaking of leather, fur, wool, feathers/down, or silk, animals are “ranched”/raised, trapped, mutilated and killed under some of the most horrific conditions imaginable, in order to produce the clothing and accessories that most of us wear. These animals lead miserable, short, tortured lives about which the average consumer has little awareness or knowledge, but thanks to the internet and the persistence of animal rights advocates, that’s beginning to change."

Did you know that about 40 percent of deaths worldwide are being caused by water, air, and soil pollution? That is a scary thought. 17. I mostly agree with you and my point of view is that if teachers are going to make us do hours of homework each night then they might as well just keep us at school for another two hours. There is really no point in being at school for 8 hours then coming home and spending the rest of our night doing schoolwork. They might as well keep us at school. Students should also be allowed to have a life and do other things because too much homework can cause stress overload, burnout and resentment towards teachers. Sometimes teachers don't realize how much time our homework actually takes. It also doesn't help when you're not able to have access period at the end of the day anymore like we had in sixth grade. When I had that free period it really helped me get a lot done and then I could relax more at night. Having too much homework can actually diminish its effectiveness and can end up being counter productive.
