As we have explored and discussed in
class, human behavior has negatively impacted our planet. Is it too late for the Earth to forgive us
for the ways we have treated it? In one paragraph:
●
share
textual evidence from an online article of your careful choice that proves how
human behavior has negatively impacted our planet,
●
discuss
how the damages caused by the human behavior you share can be reversed, or why
you think it's too late, and
● at the end, paste the url of the
website from which you gathered
evidence.
If deforestation continues at the rate its going now many species will be in big danger of becoming extinct. Ever decade 1.8 million square kilometers a of forests are cleared for reasons like wood, framing and building on the land. There is also a big threat of the land that the forest was once on getting washed out because there's no trees to stop the water. There would also be an increases in green house gases because the machens used to take the trees down, and tree help eliminate greenhouse gases. Many animals would be in a huge danger of becoming extinct because there would be no place for them to live. I thin that this problem can be reversed if we plant trees ware the land was cleared, But that would be hard because there are farms and building on the land.

DeleteNice job Ryan! I agree that deforestation is a big problem for the environment. Unfortunately, I don't think this problem can be solved. I don't really think that clearing the land would help this problem. I think it would do more harm than good.
DeleteGood job Ryan! I agree that planting more trees would be a crucial but difficult task. I think that there is a way to improve the deforestation, but not completely reverse it. I also think that it would be a cool idea to have schools plant trees and flowers on days like Earth Day.
Deletekevin, I think that you might have misunderstood my solion. I think, that you thought my solution was to clear the land, but I ment the plant trees were the land was cleared. But I also agree with you that this problem can not be solved.
DeleteCadence, I do agree with you that you cant completely reverse deforestation. But I also think that having schools plant trees and flowers on earth day is a great idea, and it would help to improve deforestation.
Air pollution can be slowly killing you. You don't know how clean the air you're breathing is. Earth isn't as big as you think, and sometimes air pollution doesn't always just go away like some people think. Air pollution can have dangerous gases in it, but you would never know. You would never know, because you can't see it since it's a gas not a liquid or solid.Air pollution can increase a person's chance of having heart attacks. Millions of Americans can live in areas where there is a lot of air pollution, and it effects their health. There is a more likely chance of having asthma in areas there is high air condition. Air pollution is affecting the earth in a negative way
ReplyDeleteNice job Melanie. I think a way for air pollution to stop hurting the environment is to use different materials instead of dangerous gases. We could start to use different kinds of energy to fuel our factories so that we stop putting dangerous chemicals into our earth.
DeleteI agree with you. Air pollution is slowly killing us. We need to stop using factory's that produce gas. If people keep breathing in the gas or anything bad in the air people are going to die and the population will drop.
DeleteGood job Melanie! I think that air pollution could possibly be reversed or be reduced if people stopped using as many dangerous gases to power things and switch to using different types of gases that will give you the same results but without the bad side effects to the environment. I think that air pollution is a big problem because as you said it can have many bad side effects not only on the earth and environment but on people as well.
DeleteI think all your solutions will work very well. I think it will work, because if we find or make gas that is better for the earth that will still make machines work it could help a lot. Also the earth would a better place for people, and not have as many bad side effects to not only people but the environment itself.
DeleteOur planet is over polluted, people just don't know how bad it hurts the economy. In 2012 it was so bad that they had to close down airline and highways do to the visibility conditions. Also, in mexico city they shut down Bordo Poniente landfill. They shut it down because of both human habitation and local aquifers. People need to stop living in a bad way and just realize how bad the hurt the economy.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.vision.org/visionmedia/vision-publisher-david-hulme-environmental-problems/53059.aspx
I think that this can be reversed. Technology is being developed that can and will suck carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases. Also, eventually all our waste might be recycled, composted, or something similar, and if we plant more trees than we cut down, the trees will also help with carbon dioxide.
DeleteI think that the problem of pollution has already affected the environment beyond what we can take back. ( We can't rebuild glaciers or the Ozone layer. ) However, the problem can be alleviated by handling our environment better. I agree that planting more trees to replace the ones we cut down is an effective solution to reduce air pollution, because trees take in CO2.
DeleteYou are correct. The Earth is very polluted and if we keep on doing what we are doing and not stop, the Earth can be in big trouble in a couple of years. But you haven't really started what type of pollution your talking about. Are you talking about physical pollution or gas pollution? Either way we have to do something soon in order to stop pollution.
DeleteNoah and Joanna I like the part about the trees and that will help to reduce air but I think the problem with that is who is going to do it. Anish the earth is practically already in danger it just might get worse and worse if we don't do anything to try and stop it. Also Anish I like how you caught one of my mistakes about what type pollution physical or gas and that was my bad. But the answer is gas pollution I talked about in the paragraph.
DeleteHuman behavior has negatively impacted our planet because plowed fields, construction sites, and logged or mined areas wash dirt from those exposed earth areas into lakes and streams. That is not good because the dirt can smother fish or animals that live in the water, and if the nutrients from the dirt gets into the water, it makes the water green and grow algae. I think the damages caused by humans can be reversed because the farmers, homeowners, cities, and towns are trying to reduce the amount of nutrients that gets into the water. Also, farmers are using new methods that won't disturb the dirt as much. Website URL- https://kids.niehs.nih.gov/topics/pollution/river-stream/index.htm
ReplyDeleteHannah,I really like the topic you chose! I believe it is necessary for our society to notice what we are doing to it. Humans don't realize much about what we do to the economy. It is only when we are told to notice something we do it. For example those 2 images when you have to notice the changes from one picture to the other. Overall good job!
DeleteI think these damages can be reversed because of the new farming methods you had said. If there are ways to reduce the amount of nutrients and have methods that won't disturb the dirt as much, we should be able to hopefully get the nutrients that are already in there, out. I think your solution will work if those are the main problems causing algae to grow and animals to die.
DeleteI think the damages can be reversed because farmers can change the way they farm just like how you said. And by reducing the amount of nutrients will help the economy. Another way is showing farmers how the dirt exposed to the water can harm fishes and animals that live in the water. Which can put farmers jobs on the line.
DeleteHannah,I think the damages you discussed can be reversed through the new methods people are trying, like the new farming methods you discussed.By reducing the amount of nutrients in the water we can focus on cleaning up the water. So the water would be cleaner overall and better for the animals. I think your solution would work because the nutrients and the algae that results from the nutrients being in the water kills animals. If we keep the nutrients out of the water we would help animals and clear up the water.
DeleteRachel, I believe the Earth can still forgive us because like you said, "It is only when we are told to notice something we do it". I liked your example of noticing changes in two pictures, humans only notice the changes when they focus and look for them. Dilni, I agree with the new farming methods, but I also think these damages can be reversed by people trying harder to take care of the Earth. I believe your solution (getting the damaging nutrients out) will work if we develop the tools that we need. Tresha, I agree with decreasing the amount of nutrients will help the economy because they won't have to spend more money on as much nutrients. That will help humans save money. I like your idea for a solution (showing farmers that the dirt exposed to the water effects the fish and animals), I believe your solution will work, but the farmers would have to understand the harm that the nutrients causes to fish. Palmer, I agree with you that the damages can be reversed through not only new farming methods but also humans being more careful and thoughtful of the environment that we live in. I think your solution (by reducing the amount of nutrients that goes into water, the water will be cleaner and safer over all) will work because if we clean up the water, humans will get see how poorly we have taken care of our environment and they will start caring for the Earth a little more.
DeleteForest play a vary big role in are world, they house the large amounts of animals, provide homes, they clean are carbon, produce medicine and other much needed things. Its estimated that 15% of all greenhouse gases, are due to deforestation.Did you know 1.6 Billion species that are endangered, live in the forest.with the current rate of deforestation several species could be extinct are non recoverable. Most of the land being used is farms but, this can still stop there are other ways to get space to grow food for instance, underground farms you can get even more space with out destroying land. But if we do not stop soon the results will be devastating.
ReplyDeleteI think deforestation can be reversed if we stop using trees and use more computers. Trees provided so much for the environment like homes for animals, clean oxygen and so much more.
DeleteNice Job Justin. I liked how you included solutions like stop destroying land. I agree with you in the way that destroying land is extremely harmful and we keep replacing the land with factories.
DeleteJustin - great job! I think a solution would be to nurture the land that was destroyed and plant more trees. I think the damage can be reversed, but it will take a very long time.
DeleteIf population keeps increasing humans will eventually eliminate things that we need to help us live. With more antibiotics, vaccines, and pesticides being discovered life expectancy will continue to increase. There has been a dramatic decline in mortality which leads to unprecedented increase in global population. People are starting to live longer and have less children that is leading to the population increasing as well. Women's fertility rate is in decline so there are less children in our world population. Rapid population growth is outpacing improvements in facilities for water sanitation and sewage disposal. So if the population keeps increasing the things we need to keep the world clean and things that we need for our daily lives will slowly die out. That will leave us humans left while having nothing to live off of.
ReplyDeletehttps://enviroliteracy.org/environment-society/population-studies/
The usual solution for this is just to let things "Take their course." Let things: (Including humans) die, live, get sick, make their own choices. This will lead to less humans on earth, letting everything keep calm and "Live and let die."
DeleteGood job Marisa. I agree with your opinion that population will decline within a few years. I also agree that this will help our environment and keep us from eliminating useful materials.
DeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
DeleteGreat Job Marissa. I think that this problem could be reversed if there was a limit on the number of children each family could have, but, that could be a violation to human rights. I do not think there is any real solution to this problem that is constitutional. We want people to live longer, but I agree with you that this could also be causing a problem. I agree with you that this is a serious problem that needs to be solved.
DeleteThe population won't decline it will go up and out run the other things we need like our water being clean. I think that having a limit on children in a family would help but like you said that would never happen.
DeleteBurning coal has effected the world in many ways. For example pollution and the impact of coal being burnt.
ReplyDeleteThe consquences that coal being burnt is pretty servere. Examples of this is the sea level is rising, risk of droughts, heat waves, heavy rainfall, species loss, and human and ecological disruptions. That can take a pretty big toal on the earth. Especially species loss because that could mess up the whole food chain if we loose animals to this problem.
So do I think that this can be all reversed, No. My reason behind it is that, this problem has been going on for a long time and efects have happend. Look at Californa and there drought. So I do not think that this problem can be reversed in any way.
Nice job Cam! I fully agree with your opinion that fossil fuels cannot be replaced. It would be too expensive to replace this massive energy source. However, if the world was able to impossibly convert all energy to some other form, it could be solar. Things like cars could have solar panels to power the engines. Unfortunately, this would deplete the economy's money and make everyone broke.
DeleteI think that the effects of burning coal can be reversed. Right now, it's true that there are problems being caused by it. However, with technology that is being developed, we can effect a change by sucking carbon dioxide out of the air, which is what burning coal causes. And so then heat can escape more, fixing the changes to the climate that coal-burning and other polluting activities have caused.
DeleteI believe the effects of burning coal can be reversed if scientists can create a holder for coal, so that the coal can not pollute the sky.
DeleteI agree that this can't be reversed, but it can be stopped. If people stop overusing fossil fuels the effects of the pollution will decline. We can achieve this by using electric cars and etcetera.
DeleteAnimals are on the line of extinction. Some facts about animals going extinct is that we overpopulate. The reason why this is a problem is because people us humans need homes to live in. And in order for us to do that we need to build cities and towns. So, when we do that we push animals away from there home and when they are not in their natural habitat it could kill them. Another reason why animals are on the line of extinction is because of oil spills we have. And when we have oil spills in our bodies of water millions of gallons of oil and methane spills and it affects ecosystems and this is another way animals can become extinct. I think that some of these are caused by human mistakes but some of them are not. Also, I think it is not too late to turn this around. This can be done by being more careful with oil and use better methods. And I think over populating can be watched by each family can only have one boy and one girl. These are two facts about how animals can become extinct.
ReplyDeletehttps://curiosity.com/topics/are-humans-destroying-the-environment-0-qI1H2Z/
I agree with your idea that animal extinction can be reduced. If the humans who are over hunting animals and destroying habitats instead turn their attention to protecting endangered species and cutting down on deforestation and hunting, humans can help the earth instead of harming it; this will benefit many animals. If endangered animals' habitats are protected and there are limits on how they can be hunted, the plight of the endangered species can be greatly reduced. One solution I suggest is making laws to limit deforestation, which will help endangered species by preserving their habitats.
DeleteI think the Earth will forgive us for animal extinction but I don't agree with your solution. I don't agree with your proposed solution of the 2 children rule because pregnancy is unexpected and that sounds like something from The Giver. An alternate solution would be to stop using oil entirely and start using renewable energy.
DeleteI think there is another solution. If the people were going to build cities and town, then we have build less cities and leave more spaces for the animal's habitats.
DeleteThanks Joanna,Elizabeth, and Mickey you telling me how you feel on this topic and if you like it or not. And I like how you agreed with me on my ideas Joanna. Also, Elizabeth I didn't take that idea from what ever that is what you said. But I think your idea is really nice and I like it. And I agree with you Mickey because if we try that it could work.
DeleteThe poachers are slowly killing off all of the wildlife It is crazy what they do. Get this, A big horned sheeps horns are selling on the black market for up to $20,000 that is insane who would do that. Another thing is that people are so greedy that they kill 100 million that's right 100 million sharks each year because they can go for up to $500 on the blackmarket. One time a bighorn sheep full body mount went for $30,000 on the black market. Then the Elephants have almost died off in some places because people want the money from the tusks so much. The last animal that I am going to talk about today is the American Black Bear they are getting killed and people take the gallbladder and bile out of them and sell it on the black market and the population has gone down big time with them. So to wrap up I think we can change people from poaching if encon cracks down on it more than usual
ReplyDeleteWWW.onegreenplanet.org
I think this damage will not be reversible. But I do think we should limit the amount of poaching. When people stop poaching now, we will not be able to have all the animals go back to their original population, but stopping poaching now will stop even more animals of those populations and other populations from dying. I don't think it will be able to be reversed because it will be really difficult to bring the amount of a species back again, especially if a large quantity of the species is gone. I think that your solution could work but I don't believe it will be enough to reverse the damages poaching has caused.
DeleteI do not think the effects of poaching could be reversed, but limiting the poachers ability to poach is an option; passing stricter laws and providing more law enforcement (wildlife) is a way we could do that. Limiting the access to the wildlife that the poachers hunt is another solution to this problem
DeleteAiden I agree with you and I think that would work very well, however I was trying to say how If we do things to prevent It now I think we could get things to go back to normal. All of the populations of the animals would go back to normal and because of poaching that is why a lot of the animals like some elephants are becoming extinct.
DeleteIpat. It stands for Impact on the enviroment is a result of Affluence, population, and technology. Population refers to the size of the human race. Population is the main point because every other point revloves around population. Affluence is the amount of consumption by humans, and Technology is the process used to obtain and to transform them
ReplyDeleteto make them useful but also harmful wastful.
https://www.science.org.au/curious/earth-environment/measuring-human-impact-planet
This will lower the population. In which I'm referring to as a good thing. We are taking more animals, ice and the rest of the world with us. So reducing this process in some way is a good thing. Rather finding other solutions for power, stop destroying the world, or reduce the population.
DeleteI'm not sure if this is a solution or not. However, I agree that human impact from overpopulation is a huge problem. Overpopulation is definitely a difficult problem to deal with, and we can't just limit the preexisting population. However, we can encourage people to reproduce less. Enacting reproduction laws and encouraging protected fornication can help reduce the population growth rate, and can slow overpopulation. This will lead to lower affluence as the population growth slows, which will lower our impact on the Earth.
DeleteThank you everyone for feedback and first,George. You had an idea that setting laws in place to slow reproduction, and I agree that that would work, if enough people vote for as big ofachange as that. Pencil Monkey, lowering the population is the most alternative idea because it covers the most problems, so we should deffinentlylook into it
DeleteMy societal problem that I have been researching is littering. Litter consists of trash and household toxic substances that are improperly disposed of on land or in water. The city of Los Angeles produces around 2,769 pounds of trash per person each year. There is a giant island called Garbage Island of plastic floating in the Pacific Ocean that is more than twice the size of Texas. This shows that littering is a big problem and we need to do something about it as soon as possible.
