In “By the Waters of Babylon,” John says, “Perhaps, in the old days, they ate knowledge too fast.” As we discussed in class, Stephen Vincent Benet wanted readers to inquire and explore the dangers of developing and using technology too quickly. In one paragraph:
- describe a technology from today that we use without considering the dangers,
- offer suggestions as to how we could use it more carefully, and
- at the end, paste the url of a website from which you did some reading about the dangers of using the technology.
Guns are used for many different things. Hunting, self-defense, or even for certain sports! The problem is that some people use guns for the wrong purposes. Like murder, death threats, sometimes even by accident. We need to use guns more carefully. One way we could do that is to tighten restrictions on gun sales. These days, people with criminal records or mental health are able to buy guns. This is not acceptable and should be stopped immediately. One way is to change the border line until you are not allowed to buy a gun anymore. For example, if someone is too dangerous to enter a plane, they are also too dangerous to buy and own a gun. Tightening restrictions on gun sales is a great way to use guns more carefully.

Jessica, I completely agree with your stance on this issue. Personally, I believe that the way to solve gun issues is if we run background checks multiple times on people who want to purchase a rifle, handgun, or shotgun. I believe that if someone is new to the country, i.e. a refugee, they should have to be in the US for more than three years and become a legal citizen before they can be cleared to purchase a firearm. Wonderful paragraph, I love it! -Robert Fitz
DeleteJessica, we sure do need to solve this gun issue. One way I have by doing that is completely banning the use of guns. The only people who would be aloud are people in the police, fbi, etc. We should implement some sort of tracking devices on guns or serial numbers that identifies a gun owner so gns dont get in the wrong hands. Great parragraph. -Daniyaal
DeleteJessica, we really should do more on this gun issue. One way is by making places more secure. The reasons there are mass shootings is because a populated area is wide open. So in airports in spots that are open to anyone need to be more secure. Also like you said, the people who get the guns need to be checked before the are able to buy it. Love it! -Carrington
DeleteYou are right. Guns are a serious issue and need to be looked upon. Often times guns are exploited and cause a great extent of distress to people. We can start by banning guns in certain areas of high public activity. Anyone known to have brought a gun in that place will be given severe consequences for compromising the safety of the general public. It's time to start taking responsibility and solve this issue. Lovely paragraph Jessica!
DeleteVery nice job explaining Jess. But should be a lot more gun laws passed so more people can be safe. Because yeah, there are a lot of people who use them for bad things like murdering people. But there's people that use them in different ways, to kill themselves. Because you'd think people would commit suicide by hanging themselves and overdosing, but there are quite a few to do it by shooting themselves. If someone tries to buy a gun, the person selling it to them should probably have to check their history for mental illnesses. And if it shows that they have certain illnesses that could possibly mean using that gun to kill themselves, they probably shouldn't sell it to them. That could cut down the amount of suicides a little bit, and that would be a very good thing.
DeleteStudies state that over 1.3 million die do to driving related incidents every year, this includes children, teens, parents grandparents etc. About 2 every 3 drivers are involved with a car crash in their life time. As you can see these aren't great numbers but this can definitely be avoided. In order to stop these accidents we need to teach people properly and give them harsh punishments when these rules are broken. We should also add smart steering wheels that ring when 2/1 hands are take off of it. We should implement self driving technologies in all cars sold. One last thing we could add is a sensor or face recognition system that can recognize if a person is drowsy or under the influence and completely take control of the wheel. As you can see these are just a few things we would do to make driving safer.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.drive-safely.net/driving-statistics/
Dan I completely agree with you that more driving related accidents are happening and that they need to be stopped. I think that the car should go into some sort of stall when the driver reaches a high speed limit and we should take all self driving cars off of the road and implement the self driving vehicles that you talked about. They could communicate and drive the person where they need to go. Also a great idea would be to not start the car until all seatbelts are fastened inside the car.
DeleteDan, I agree with what your saying, but where we are right now in technology this might be too high of a cost in money. But it's a great way to ensure driving safety. One thing we could add is a speedometer that doesn't allow you to go higher than the speed limit zone you are currently in. Also automatic driving might reduce the deaths of impaired driving.
DeleteI agree with your point of view on this topic. Installing a sensor/face recognition does sound really good, and it could help us. It could help with drunk driving accidents around the world, and could save MANY lives.
DeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
DeleteDan I agree how we have to be safer on the roads and use more safety precautions so that less people get hurt and die. Over 20 million people get severely injured each year due to unacceptable driving and accidents. I admire your stand on using technology to make cars safer for people. I think that there should be technology for cars to read speed limit signs and to use artificial intelligence to interpret them to follow the law. This will make the roads safer. Overall good job Dani.
DeleteGreat job on your work! I do believe that driving can be very dangorus. I think a simple solution to this is that we could possibly pass more stricked driving laws
DeleteA technology from today that we use without considering the dangers is a hover board. There have been several reports of hover boards catching on fire and causing damage to homes. For example, one hover board burned down a house in Louisiana. Also, there have been reports of hover boards catching on fire while being ridden. One suggestion I have on how we could use them more carefully is to follow the directions for the hover board you own. For example, if your hover board says not to ride it when it is running low on battery, don't do it. The low battery could cause it to blow up. Also, I suggest the manufacturers need to be more careful when designing hover boards. I think they need to make the hover boards with a higher quality battery. The battery has many times been the reason for the fires. Hover boards are a new technology that we need to use more carefully.
ReplyDeletehttps://www.wired.com/2015/12/why-hoverboards-keep-exploding/

DeleteEmily
DeleteYet I agree with your argument that the people and the manufacturers need to be cautious, sometimes the human race gets ahead of itself and , well, messes up. The hover board was a humans dream since the late 30's. Since it is a new technology, we can't really change it that much. And if they really did want to make a new model, they would have to recall the old ones, causing many people not to buy the second version. And then the reason why the company made the hover boards, money, is being wasted. And no one I know wants to waste money. That was a nice paragraph, though
Emily great job on the paragraph. I completely understand your problem from today. I think that the hover boards should also have some sort of system that doesn't allow the passenger to ride when the battery is low and if they try to it won't work. Also the hover board could have some sort of sensor that scans the surrounding area for danger and doesn't let the passenger to travel in that direction in case of some sort accident. Again great paragraph.
DeleteGreat job Emily! I think another solution is to test the hover board before you sell it. Also I think the company should put warning labels on the box. Just to make the dangers very clear.
DeleteGreat job, Emily! I completely agree with you. The batteries that they are using I am pretty sure are lithium ion batteries, which are also causing the new samsung phones to explode as well. I have a hoverboard, and when I first got it, it said not to leave it charging for more than 2 hours. That has also been a common cause of the fires. People sometimes leave them in overnight which does damage to the battery. And since the battery is already poor quality, it's very likely that if you leave it unattended and plugged in too long that it will catch on fire. One solution would be to set a timer on your phone for 2 hours or less. That way it doesn't overcharge. I definitely think this is something we all need to be careful with!
DeleteEver get that feeling of jitteriness, excitement, or nervousness before going on that big drop? Well, your not alone, although some people will never have those feelings again. One occasion of this was in the Six Flags at Arlington, Texas. This woman fell from the coaster not long after it started. Before the ride she complained to the attendant that her safety restraint was not fastened properly. In this case and many others that's what causes the problem, the injury or in her case, death. A study by the center for Injury Research found that from 1990 to 2010, 92,885 children that were under the age of 18, had to be treated in the emergency because of amusement ride-related injuries. Although amusement rides are almost always a fun experience we need to take better safety precautions with this. Amusement parks need to make sure their workers are always following safety procedures because if not this could mean life or death for someone like me or you. They should check them more than once especially on the rides with steeper drops and greater risks of injury or death. Safety is key, don't get me wrong I love me a good drop or barrel roll but I love life a little more. Fun always comes with risks, the way we handle those risks is what determines if we get off the ride in the end. http://www.seeker.com/roller-coasters-how-dangerous-are-they-1767664250.html
ReplyDeleteEllen, I completely agree with everything you said. I love roller coasters too, but I always get worried when there's a big drop for that exact reason. Just like the attendant for the woman in Texas, some people in amusement parks don't care enough to check the safety of others and this results in bad things happening to the passengers. Sometimes there are even problems with the roller coasters themselves, like ones made of wood that might get too old. Maybe there should be multiple attendants per station to double check that every passenger is safe. I also think that roller coasters should get checked more regularly to make sure the roller coaster itself is safe to ride.
DeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
DeleteEven though many love rollercoasters and that dose of dopamine, rollercoasters can be dangerous! You have done an excellent job explaining that. Like the bullet train I believe that rollercoasters with big drops should be connected with magnets. Except the cart will not hover. Sometimes safety gadgets become loose during the twists and turns in the ride. They be checked and replaced.
DeleteEllen this was such a good excerpt. We could have stop buttons on the ride that would instantly stop the roller coaster and also we could have escape pods on the ride in case some sort of malfuntion terminates he ride and might cause some harm to certain individuals. I also suggest that they update the rides every year and check for maintainence breaks and if they are not safe them the ride will close.
DeleteEllen,
DeleteThis is very well written! I completely agree with you on this topic. Often times, staff members ignore riders when they mention something about their safety being in jeopardy. Not too long ago, at six flags great adventure (I think), these teenage girls were riding the superman ride, where riders are brought to the top of a tower and then dropped down. They started screaming to stop the ride because cables were snapping, but they didn't listen. The girls were severely injured and one of them had to have her feet amputated because the cables managed to wrap around her ankles. I think when amusement parks hire new staff members, they should make it very clear that if someone doesn't feel safe or they want to have someone check their restraint again, they address it right away to insure the safety and comfort of everyone.
One technology that we use without really considering the risks is air travel. People have over 100 times the risk of catching a disease on a plane such as the common cold, but people are also at risk of catching much more serious diseases on an airplane. Nearly every case of polio and measles are linked to air travel, and air travel could cause huge epidemics. One way that we could make planes safer is by making sure that people are not carrying serious illnesses before going on planes. If everyone is healthy, then no one can get sick, and then people could look forward to a clean, safe, and healthy flight.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.livescience.com/13878-health-hazards-air-travel.html
Aria, I never even thought about this issue! I didn't think it would make you more likely to catch a disease on a plane, and I'm sure other people don't know either. When you're travelling on a plane, you probably don't know every person on it, or their health status, and no one really takes the time to think about that. You could be sitting next to someone who had a terrible disease, but there's no way you would know until you got sick yourself. I don't think anyone even knows the statistics of this issue so I'm glad you brought it up. I think airports should have a short medical exam, kind of like how there's a security check, to make sure that no one is carrying any diseases that could be dangerous to others. Or people could bring in papers from a doctor with something like blood tests to prove that the person is free from any potentially dangerous diseases. Plane crashes are also something that are dangerous, although people are more aware of this. Planes could crash because of things like bad storms or even just from faulty mechanics. One way to solve this issue is for planes to have more thorough mechanical procedures to make sure that the it is perfectly working.
DeleteYou're right people don't really think about the risks of air travel. I agree with you, people should have it as a priority to check if a person has a disease being allowed to board the plane. The person should also bring some sort of medical papers showing that the person doesn't have any diseases that could be contagious.
DeleteI completely agree with the risks of air travel. Not only is disease a risk but today the TSA staff at any airport should be checking peoples background thoroughly to prevent them from bringing any harmful/threatening weapons on the plane. Great Paragraph.
DeleteYou are right. Air travel is a serious issue that needs to be looked upon. It not only encourages diseases to spread, but also can be a place where dangerous things can take place. Things like shootings, threats, etc. There has also been cases of hijacking. We can solve this problem by letting each plane have their own set of security guards that are specialized in fighting and protecting passengers. The staff on the plane should go under through security checks to prevent them from being a threat to the passengers. Lovely paragraph Aria.

DeleteI agree Aria. I myself hate air travel and almost every time I'm on a plane I throw up and get airsick. One way that people catch an illness or cold is because they don't clean the seats properly before flights. I've seen the clean up crew on planes between flights and all they do is vacuum a little and pick papers off the floor. They don't even actually clean the seats or the small fold-able table that comes with it. I agree that everyone should be clean and healthy before they board a flight. Great Job
DeleteOne technology we use without considering the dangers is the cell phone. Some people consider the dangers , and just ignores them. While others are just clueless to the dangers. Your cell phone can be addicting, you can be addicted to your cell phone, and not even know it. Cell phone addiction is really bad, and it can cause all sorts of problems. One problem is you strain your eyes if you look at a digital for two hours or more. Some symptoms you may experience are eyes twitching and burning, blurred vision, eye tiredness and headaches. Another problem is car accidents, which threatens your life, and other driver's lives. We can use our cell phones with more caution by using cell phone's periodically throughout the day. Don't use your cell phone for more than three to four hours at a time. This can have serious repercussions in your future. Also don't use your phone in the car. Even if you are a passenger, be social and actually talk with the other people in the car. Also you not using your phone will help the driver not use their phone.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.psychguides.com/guides/signs-and-symptoms-of-cell-phone-addiction/
DeletePeople can also get diseases or illnesses when using their cell phones. People might not be as social as they could be when using their phones. This could be bad for their physical and mental health. Another way to prevent this is to only use your phone when absolutely necessary and keeping it away at other times. Great job Grace!
DeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
DeleteGrace, I completely agree with you! When others are using phones around others it triggers a chain reaction. Now everyone around is on their phone. There are apps which shut off your phone when you over use it. This could really help and make society interact socially. Shutting off your phone when not in use or in emergencies would help because people will realize that their whole life doesn't exist on their phone.
DeleteGreat job, Grace! I completely agree with the dangers you're implying. A few other dangers are that car accidents are caused by the use of cellphones while driving, which takes our attention off the road, as well as increased diseases because there are a ton of germs on our phones. One solution could be to silence our phones while driving or turn them off, and putting them out of our reach or we could wash our hands often to wash away the germs.
DeleteGrace, I think this is an issue that many of us are related to. Not only does using your cell phone impact your social and physical health, but it can also impact on how you do in school. The hours you spend looking at your phone could be hours shoved into schoolwork, and catching up on late assignments. Therefore, an addiction to your cell phone could tremendously impact your success in education. A solution would be to finish all of your homework before being deeply engaged into the screen of your phone.
DeleteIt might be fun to stand next to the microwave and listen to your popcorn heating right in front of you, but scientifically, it's not! A study conducted conducted by Dr. Magda Havas of Trent University concluded a microwave's form of heating(radiation) could change the rate your heart beats. This may lead to forms of chest pain, a failed heart, and in long term, death. This shows the importance of renovating the microwave to heat like it's cousin: the stove. Instead of using electricity to radiate heat, we could make it so that the microwave could use coil-heating. This is the same form of heating as the stove, as heat is simply produced with the help of gas. These small changes could lead to saving many lives, as 90 percent of homes stated that the microwave is an essential to their home kitchen.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.medicaldaily.com/microwaves-are-bad-you-5-reasons-why-microwave-oven-cooking-harming-your-health-250145
Junho, I've never thought about this issue. I didn't know that microwaves could be so dangerous. Another danger that microwaves may cause is children with asthma. When pregnant women are exposed to electromagnetic fields of microwaves, there is a higher chance of the child developing asthma. Pregnant women should stay away from the electromagnetic waves of microwaves and other devices to lower the risk of their child having asthma.
DeleteJunho, I totally agree with you. Many people are lured in with the microwave because it heats food up really fast. But they do not consider the threats of it. But not only does it emit dangerous electromagnetic waves, but it also is another device in the house that could be a fire hazard.
DeleteJunho I agree with you, and in fact this kind of surprised me. I really didn't know all of this could happen, and I think this is going to make people more cautious of using microwaves. I feel using electromagnetic waves is too dangerous to put in every house, being the danger it contributes. I feel we change the heat emission to something more safer.
DeleteJunho, I've seen a few people write about this, but yours has some details that the others didn't include. I was surprised that the radiation can alter your heart rate! I think the best way to eliminate the problems of microwaves is to leave the room that the microwave is in right after you click the start button and not stand around watching your food be heated. Therefore, you are out of the way of the radiation and will not suffer its' consequences.
DeleteJunho my dad talks about this issue a lot, and now finally I understand where he is getting to. I agree that microwaves can be a secret threat that can eventually cause many problems like heart failure. People should be more aware of this and companies should make safer microwaves so that everyone can be safe. Great Job!!!
DeleteDo you have a cell phone? If you do, have you ever thought of the dangers of using it. Cell Phones could be dangerous in many ways. For example many people tend to talk or text on their cell phone as they drive. This can lead to a great risk of getting into a car accident. Cell phones also cause electromagnetic radiation which can lead to high risks of cancer. Research shows that cell phones are a cause of brain cancer. The radiation can lead to headaches and dizziness. Although cell phones are a tool that make our lives easier, we should use them with caution. Turn them off when they are not in use and only use them for necessities. Remember to never rely on your cellphone to do much of your work.
ReplyDeletehttps://www.ukessays.com/essays/english-language/cell-phones-are-dangerous-english-language-essay.php
We keep trying and trying, but we can't seem to leave a mystical piece of technology called a cell phone. Some possible solutions are to get apps which calculate how much time you spend on your phone. There are also a few which shut off your phone if you over use it. But a very convincing and smart paragraph Shreya!!
DeleteWhen people drive and they approach a yellow light than it turns red; Humans have a fast reaction time and can come to a stop somewhat easily. While multitasking, we would either not notice the light at all, or our reaction time would be significantly slower. This causes many accidents. Usually when we revive a text message we are exited to open it, but that second could cost our lives. If drivers pull over to the side of the road or have a passenger check the text, we would save lives. Very good paragraph Shreya!
DeleteShreya, people are becoming more and more attached to their phones.People aren't spending enough time outside. The more you have your phone the more of a distraction it can become. Like when your driving, you could be so distracted your phone you don't notice a car stopping in front of you.
DeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
DeleteShreya, I totally agree with you on this topic. Cell phones have become a very, very popular accessory, but people don't seem to use them right. We could always make a phone that locks when it's on the road. This would make things safe for everyone.
DeletePeople can say so much about guns. Guns can be used so badly... It's more likely to shoot an innocent person than home invader. Having a gun in a house also increases the chance of becoming a victim of a firearm related homicide or suicide. Also, if you have children parents try hiding the gun, but usually these efforts fail and children end up finding them. Usually when teens and children die from a firearm it's usually from home 72% of the time. The way to fix these issues is to ban certain guns, and impose other restrictive gun control laws.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.safewise.com/resources/guns-at-home
Arham great paragraph. I think the houses should have security that will have face recognition of the person to see who they are and then they will activate the guns on the house when some person is not recognized. Also the guns could be face recognized that way they won't shoot at the kids only at intruders.
DeleteI agree that guns can be bad. A solution would be for parents to put guns in a safe that kids can not open. Also parents should be aware that there children can get a hold of the gun and do something about that like hiding it better or telling their kids not to use it.
DeleteArham I completely agree. I feel that parents shouldn't own guns in the first place being with all these threats and odds of hurting their own children/family. Parents who do own a gun should know what the possible outcomes could be, hopefully eliminating possibility of more deaths. A solution could be to make sure the parent properly warn the kid(s) never to use or touch it (in case of accidental fire).
Delete-Great Job
Arham, your paragraph is good. Gun-owning parents have a responsibility to secure that the child cannot get to their firearms. Something worse than a child killing itself is when that child or teenager takes these guns and uses them to kill others. Now, these careless parents are not only responsible for one life, but for others as well.
DeleteGreat Job Arham!!! Automatic guns and high magazine guns should be illegal for civilian use. Owning guns take a lot of responsibility. If no one has guns then there won't be as many shootings and murders. What's really bad is that if a kid gets a gun. He or she may hurt themselves or others. If kids are raised in a house with guns then they may resort to violence when they grow up. Great job!!!
DeleteMobile phones are a huge part of our world today; wait, not huge, colossal is a good word to describe the use of cell phones today. Texting, checking apps, calling a friend are just a few of the things we do with our handy-dandy mobile phones. The problem is, we do these things while driving, without considering the risks. In a survey that was taken, 69% of people, ages 18 to 64, said they did talk on the phone at least once in the last 30 days while driving. In the same survey, 31% of people said they either sent or read a text message in the past 30 days. It's getting easier and easier nowadays to get distracted by our phones. You receive a text message while driving; first instinct is to grab your phone to see the message. This takes our hands away from the steering wheel, which is a dangerous thing to do, even for the shortest amount of time. I believe that we can start to prevent those numerous car crashes due to phones by turning them off once and for all, or putting them away, out of your sight and reach while driving. Only once we've stopped and parked the car, we can check our phones without risking our life. Without our phone distracting us, we can keep our full attention where it needs to be, on the road, so that we are better and more careful drivers.
ReplyDeletehttps://www.southuniversity.edu/whoweare/newsroom/blog/health-risks-of-using-mobile-phones-137310
DeleteI also believe that technicians and engineers are working on apps and other softwares to help prevent people from texting and driving. For example, I think there is an app that is being developed that can sense how fast you are going and therefore denying access to social media apps (like messages) once you reach a certain speed.
DeleteIrene brilliant and hearty paragraph. I think we should have phones that shut off automatically when we enter the car and also if you want to call and drive then it should be automated with voice so that you don't have to pick the cell phone to dial a number. If the person is still persistent and continues to pick up the phone then the car should go into stall and not drive. This is a two part process so that means that the car technology would have to be updated and the phones would have to recognize the car.
DeleteGreat paragraph Irene! Another solution is if you have someone in the car with you; have them check your phone. Also if the message is really important; have Siri or an AI read the test message to you.
DeleteYou did a fantastic job of using data/statistics to support your argument on using electronics while driving. 3,000 people die each day because of accidents like this and many more suffer lifelong injury which can be both mental and physical-This is a horrific reality of how cell phones have taken control of our everyday lives. Luckily, there are more and more people being educated about texting/calling and driving everyday, and numbers are going down. Possibly we could more action by implementing stricter laws and including more education on this topic during Drivers Ed.
DeleteMany people today don't care about the dangers of driving a car. Some people take their time to be safe, but others don't follow the rules of the road. They pay the consequences for their actions. The actions people pay usually come from these 2 types of driving; drinking and texting. After drinking, people don’t function as usual, and aren’t qualified to drive properly. People who do this don’t care, and could get them along with other people around them killed, too- especially the ones in the car with them. “According to 2009 drunk driving statistics there were 10,839 traffic fatalities in alcohol-impaired-driving crashes.” These people get hurt for their decisions. The same thing happens when people text and drive. People who text and drive aren’t impaired, they just don’t pay attention. “In 2014, there were 3,179 people killed and an estimated additional 431,000 people wounded in motor vehicle crashes involving distracted drivers.” Both texting and drinking while driving shouldn’t happen since so many lives are being affected just because of the misues to cars. If there were to be a designated driver or people to keep their phone on vibrate, lives wouldn’t be at stake. Next time you decide to drink or pick up your phone to text, the keys should not be in that ignition.

www.fcc.gov/consumers/guides/dangers-texting-while-driving
Amanda, I completely agree with you. Driving drunk and texting while driving are huge issues that we need to fix. For texting while driving, people could put their phone in the back seat, put it in the glove compartment, or turn off their phone when they're in the car. These solutions may prevent people from picking up their phones while behind the wheel. This will save many lives.
DeleteI hands-down agree with you. Drunk driving is a really bad thing to do, because one's judgement is impaired, as is their vision and their reflexes are slower. This can lead to many more crashes, and many more innocent lives being lost because one person isn't being responsible. One solution can be to drink responsibly. If you know you're going to go out to drink, make sure you're not going to be the one driving; find someone sober who can. If not, use a cab, which is much safer and responsible instead of driving while intoxicated. Great job, Amanda!
DeleteAmanda, I agree that this a big issue. If people actually thought about the consequences of impaired driving and not having your eyes on the road then not as many people would be getting injured or dying from car accidents. People should keep their phones in the back seat in a purse and drunk people should get a cab or call someone to pick them up.
DeleteThe dangers of driving is a very important topic and I totally agree with you on that. I think if the punishments for being caught for something like drinking and driving should be higher. For example, if the current fine is $50, I think it should be raised much higher, this way people will think twice.
DeleteI agree with you. Drunk driving is a huge issue in the US. Also distractions while driving is a big issue.
DeleteIf someones phone dings while they are driving, they will be distracted and maybe even check their phone. In those couple seconds that they are looking at their phone, they could get into a accident.
Texting/Drinking and driving are both some of our biggest problems these days. People are trying to stop them, and that's great, but it still hasn't stopped. I think that cars should be able to detect alcohol in the passengers breath, and somehow stop the car. If we can make this happen it will supply a safer environment for everyone.
DeleteMany people do not consider the dangers of using your cellphone while driving. In 2014 3,179 people were killed in car accidents involving distracted drivers. Something people can do to not get distracted by their cell phone is put them somewhere so they are out of sight. If you keep your cellphone out of sight you will be less likely to check your phone and possibly cause an accident. Another thing you can do is power down your phone so it won’t go off. If you keep your mind off of your phone, you won’t be as tempted to check your phone. So next time you get into your car to drive somewhere, keep your phone off your mind, and don’t check your phone. It can wait.
ReplyDeletehttps://www.fcc.gov/consumers/guides/dangers-texting-while-driving
Elizabeth,
DeleteI completely agree. Even though we make laws against it, and many cars nowadays have a wireless way to talk on the phone through the car, people still won't care. I think the only solution would be to increase the consequences for using a cellphone and driving. Or sadly, maybe we need to station police officers every certain number of miles.
Good advice Elizabeth! I will keep this in mind when I drive. Something passengers can do to assist drivers is encourage them to follow your advice. Sometime I will check the driver phone for them. Just make sure that it is okay with them first!
DeleteI agree distractions are not good while driving. Many cars allow you to sync your phone with the car so when people call you get the notification from your car without even using your phone. I think cars should get rid of this feature because it is not safe.Laws about using you phone while driving should also be reinforced.Messages on billboards about not using your phone while driving should increase.
DeleteDriving while not paying attention is a very important subject. I think that the fines for driving drunk, or texting while driving should be raised. I think this would help because it would make people stop drinking while driving or texting while driving.
DeleteDriving while texting is a big issue today. People are taking innocent people's lives and their own lives as well. I think they should make a in car detector that shuts off all cell phone service. That will decrease the possibility of people texting and driving.
DeleteOne technology we use today without considering the dangers of it is social media. On social media people compare themselves to others and seek validation. People are constantly degrading themselves or wanting approval from others on their posts. One way we could use social media more carefully is by making yourself private. By doing this, you are limiting the amount of people that can view your posts and can decline people that you do not know. Another way we can use social media more carefully is assume that everything that you post is permanent. Don't post things that you are not proud of. Social media is just one of the many examples of rushed technology.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.relevantmagazine.com/culture/tech/8-dangers-social-media-were-not-willing-admit
Kianna, I think you're definitely right. There are many people who don't take the time to think about what they post just so they fit in or because they think it's funny. I love what you said about pretending that everything is permanent. I think if everyone had that state of mind, social media sites/apps would be much safer and appropriate. Another problem with social media is that some people post personal information like their address, or they may get scammed and give their information away without knowing. People need to think more carefully and logically when using social media, especially when there may be people that you don't know. People should also change the privacy settings on their apps to control what information other people see, and who can see it.
DeleteKianna, I completly agree with you. People shouldn't being using social media as a place to seek validation. I think people should make their account private because if they don't it could lead to cyber bullying. The person that makes the account should also know not to give away personal information because that can lead to them getting scammed.
DeleteGreat job Kianna! I completely agree with you about social media. A way we can fix this is when you first create your account , a message pops up with an option to make your account private.
DeleteSocial media can be a dangerous thing. People will judge others just based on the way they look. This could lead to depression or even suicide. I think this issue could be solved by blocking those cyber bullies.
DeleteToday we use social media and don’t realize it can be dangerous. People can say any bad things with no consequences. Many people cyber bully people over the internet whether they do it on purpose or not. Cyberbullying can lead to the victim having poor grades, low self esteem, and physical and emotional stress. One way we could use social media more carefully is only looking at positive things. If you know a person that bullies you block them. You don’t have to follow everyone at school just your friends. If you only use social media to interact with your friends and not strangers you will be fine. So, social media can be dangerous but, if you use it carefully you will be fine. http://fundforcivility.org/cyberbullying-effects/
ReplyDeleteI think that another good solution to cyberbullying is to have employees that work for social media companies read through posts before they are published. Therefore, when they can spot posts that send bad messages and prevent them from being forever posted on the internet. This may take a lot of people, but I think an idea like this could really help prevent cyberbullying.
DeleteAnother problem with social media is that people spend too much time on it. They don't exercise or socialize with people as much as they should. This could lead to many illnesses and cause physical and mental damage. We could spend less time on social media and more time exercising and being with friends. Great job!
DeleteGreat paragraph Caroline! Another danger is oversharing your personal information. Another solution is don't post anything that you wouldn't want your mom to see.
DeleteSocial Media is such a huge issue! Cyberbullying leads to things like self harm, and even suicide. If you wouldn't want your grandma to see the picture you post or the messages you send, you shouldn't be posting or sending them.
DeleteGreat job Caroline! Great paragraph! I agree that social media can lead to cyberbullying. Social media can also lead to people posting inappropriate content that children can see and keep looking at it because they don't know what it is. Which can lead to more things once they get in their teens or older.
DeleteSecurity cameras are good so we would see what is happening in other rooms without making you move, you can see all rooms without moving. But security cameras can be hacked, the hacker can see your address, freeze your cameras, see your address, etc. You can be safer by using one camera point at the front/back door. You can make sure no camera is pointing at your address. You can make sure there is a camera pointing at every spot in your house, or a hacker can find a spot were a camera isn't pointing at and he can hide there. Finally you can set up a hardware firewall to block the hacker.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.makeuseof.com/tag/5-dangers-consider-pointing-home-security-cameras/
Zebra I like your piece and topic of it but the way your writing is seems more like hard paranoia instead of concrete fact but it is true that security cameras could be messed with.
DeleteZebra!I completely agree with you, for security cameras could be used to steal and take personal info like credit card numbers and addresses and other personal things. Away to stop this is to make cameras more protected and less vulnerable to cyberattacks.
DeleteI agree with you 100%. Hackers can also find exit expensive jewelry or furniture if they would like to steal and if you have cameras all over your house they know where the cameras see them. The hacker can also see what time you get home and the perfect time to steal your things. Like you said if you just have one camera the front of your house looking at your door and one in the back of your house looking at your backdoor you'll be fine.
DeleteGreat job Zebra! I agree that this is a very dangerous issue. Security cameras cold be used to see private places in your house and locate where all your expensive things are. A possible solution is to update the camera’s firmware regularly, and to always purchase the cameras from a trusted source.
DeleteYea that's true Mr.Zebra. These security cameras can get hacked and can cause serious danger to someone. A possible solution could be putting the footage in a private server. This could stop many hackers from breaching into your privacy.
DeleteRing, Ring, Ring, Ring. You pick up your phone and talk for a few hours. Do you ever think of the dangers that comes with using your phone? Probably not. Intemperate usage of wireless cell phones (IPhones, Android, Samsung, etc.) can cause something as small as headaches to something as large as brain cancer. Research has proven (multiple times) that people using cell phones excessively under the age of 20 are four or five times more likely to acquire brain cancer by their late 20's compared to those who use their cell phones at a minimal range. You might rethink that call now. Don't worry, you can protect yourself from cancer and headaches. The key is to limit your cellphone use in general, unless you absolutely need to use it. Also, try not to use your cellphone when you have less reception. Your phone need use more power to transmit messages and calls, and emits more radiation that will hit and travel through your body. Lastly, keep your phone off of your body and away from where you sleep. This is because the place where the cellphone is stored on your body might affect the function of that body part and area due to the radiation waves that the phone releases. In conclusion, use your phone only where necessary and keep it away from you. Maybe now you'll have time to do that thing you've always wanted to do but never have time for.
ReplyDeletehttp://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2015/01/06/cell-phone-use-brain-cancer-risk.aspx
Vibha, I totally agree with what you're saying. I think people don't understand the dangers of having you're fun on you all the time. Another way to help prevent the radiation is take a break for an hour or two each day to keep you from using it too much and over heating it because when it over heats, the radiation gets stronger. Great paragraph! -Carrington
DeleteI agree completely with your take on this issue. Cell phones are causing many issues in today's society. Another problem with them is their blue light. Many people sleep with their phones near them, which is very bad because the blue light can mess with your sleep schedule, and leave you sleep deprived. Excellent paragraph Vibha!
DeleteVibha, this is a very important issue to talk about. Many people know the risks of excessive phone usage and still do not care or take action on using their phones less. Another danger of cell phones is the fact that they stimulate one's brain, which is good when you're talking about reading or playing a board game, but this kind of stimulation keeps people up late and isn't even really good for them at all in the long run. Talking more about a problem is an excellent way to draw people towards solving it, so great job!
DeleteI agree that this could be a problem, especially with how popular technology is becoming; my sister even has a phone. Also not just calling but just having your phone near you (unless on airplane mode) can have the same effect. I heard that it also helps to not keep your phone on your nightstand or by your head when you go to bed. Nice paragraph!
DeleteToday, many people have guns and they have the right to have one. People use guns for many different reasons, self defence, hunting, threatening people and for sport. But about 30,000 people die from guns each year! The main problem is that guns are very dangerous but it's really not that hard to get one. Even criminals can get them. We need stricter gun laws. People will have to show an ID, which would allow them to purchase guns. This ID will be hard to get. There would be many background checks. This way criminals and psycho's can't get guns. People with the ID will use the guns for good reasons.
ReplyDeletehttps://www.preventioninstitute.org/focus-areas/preventing-violence-and-reducing-injury/preventing-violence-advocacy
Brock, I get where you're coming from with how dangerous guns can be, but if someone was a criminal in the past, they should still have the right to own a gun. What if someone broke into a past criminals home with the intention to kill them? Then the past criminal would have no way to defend themselves, and how is that fair?
DeleteBrock, I agree with you on how we should have stricter gun laws, but with criminals and psychos they should just be monitored with their guns, because if a store clerk denied them a gun it would be against the second amendment.
DeleteI agree that there should be stricter gun laws. People with a criminal history and with mental illness should not be allowed to own a gun. Unfortunately people also get guns illegally.
DeleteBrock, I agree with you on the fact that it is not that hard to get a gun and we should have stricter gun laws. Another problem with guns is that people could be using them for the wrong reasons. The solution that you proposed will help with this. Doing a background check will help find out their intentions.
DeleteI agree that it is too easy to get guns. You said people use guns for self defence, sport, and hunting. I think there are 3 easy solutions to make this safe. For self defence honestly guns being legal are one of the only reasons someone would need a gun for self defence so if guns were illegal that removes that need at all, and sure if someone obtains a gun illegally your helpless but someone using a gun for self defence is rare because no one is going to rob you while your in your house and normally shootings happen in public places where you're not going to have your gun. second thing would be the exception to the rule; cops should be aloud to have guns. 3rd is sport and hunting. For this it would be your card idea where it is extremely hard to obtain these for hunting, and for sport you can use non lethal guns. That is my alternative solution.
DeleteOne technology that is used by many people and and a technology that we don't consider the dangers of is the airplane. One danger of the airplane is in the form of hearing loss. During a flight, passengers are exposed to anywhere between 75 and 85 decibels of noise. To compare, a nightclub has a decibel level of 100, a normal conversation is 60 decibels, while heavy traffic clocks in at 75 decibels. During a flight, people who sit near the back of the plane have a higher risk of developing permanent loss of hearing because that is where the engines are. Things can get worse for people who have headphones as they crank the volume to block out the noise. What we can do to stop this is by having pairs of noise cancelling headphones on flights from now on. Studies show that these headphones can block out 40 decibels worth of noise.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.livescience.com/13878-health-hazards-air-travel.html
I agree with you 100%. They should make the metal so that you can't hear the plane's engine through the doors so the risk of hearing loss would be much lower. Also babies probably have higher risk of hearing loss because of how small they are.
DeleteI think this is a great idea and not many people even think about this. I never realized how much this could really affect someone who flies a lot. I think another way to help prevent hearing loss is to pad the inside of planes with soundproof material.
DeleteI Agree with you on this problem. I had a family member who lost her hearing, and some doctors say it was due to her traveling from Florida to New York on every holiday. I think one way to fix this could be to have all younger and older passengers sitting upfront, and then have the best hearing/middle aged sit closer to the jets. So maybe you get a hearing check before you enter the plane to see where you can be seated.
DeleteThis topic is very important as many people do not care to pay attention to this even though it is very important. I think the idea of carrying noise cancelers on a flight is a great idea!
DeleteYou've all heard of the Pokemon theme song. Sure, maybe pokemon are your best friends, but Pokemon Go is not. Pokemon Go has lately been the cause of many car accidents. Statistics say that over 79 bike and car accidents were linked to Pokemon Go since the release date in July.Although impaired driving due to the game is bad enough, this is not the worst. Pokemon Go needs to have the players share their location information in order to function. And there is no other option for this feature. So people could easily find your location with just a couple of swipes on their phone. Although this game seems to have many holes in it, there is a way to play this game safely. First of all, use common sense. If a total stranger is walking up to you while playing Pokemon Go, run away. Also do not Pokemon Go and drive at the same time. With these safety tips you can become a Pokemon master.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.japantimes.co.jp/news/2016/08/26/national/crime-legal/second-deadly-road-accident-linked-pokemon-go-japan/#.WAalrdArKVM
Nathan, I definetly agree that this game has brought a lot of dangers since it came out. One way we could fix this is completely banning these types of apps from being made because they are dangerous and are the cause of many kidnappers. -Daniyaal
DeleteNathan, I agree with you 100% that games like these are dangerous. One way we could fix this is by putting warnings on the and making sure people know the dangers.
DeleteI completely agree with you. Why would people kill themselves over some Japanese monsters? It's crazy! Apparently, one girl ran onto the highway and got hit by a car while playing this game! I think the creators of Pokemon GO should just delete the game.
DeleteNathan, I agree with you. In Pokemon Go it gives you a warning that you should not pokehunt and drive, but clearly the warning isn't enough if people are still getting into accidents, so the game should not allow you to use it at all if you are traveling over a certain speed
DeleteWhen you listen to the radio, do you observe all the songs that require electronic sounds? Have you taken an electronic course that does not require a teacher? New technology is invented every day, and the demand for using it in the job field is becoming more common. According to an Oxford University study, around 45 percent of current American jobs can be replaced in the next 50 years. This includes farmers, teachers, telemarketers and other everyday jobs that are in everyday life. Another study reveals an upwards of 99% of telemarketers will be replaced by computers. Losing jobs to technology not only hurts the person and their family, but also the economy which is dependant on the unemployment rate. Also, computer workers don't provide the interaction and teaching a real person can. While it is inevitable that many jobs will be occupied by computerized technology, but there is a simple solution; using a mix of human and robotic workers. It will still reduce the salaries that the owners have to provide, yet it will keep the human resources that are necessary for a company to thrive. If we depend on technology too much, when it fails there will be mass chaos. We need to keep SOME human jobs so no problems occur in the future.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.businessinsider.com/technology-is-destroying-jobs-and-it-could-spur-a-global-crisis-2015-6
Nick I love that you point out how some jobs are becoming more scarce i feel like you need to add about how new jobs can be made as technology advances
DeleteNick, I completely agree with your stand, and I think that as we continue to implement technology into our lives jobs will be more computerized. Note that this can be both good and bad (being that some technology may have more precision). The solution you picked is good and I think will help with this matter. Like you stated if technology fails, chaos. We need to maintain uncomputerized jobs.
Delete-Good Job
Nic, I agree with your claim that technology is taking over the world. In my eyes, technology can be a blessing, but it can also be a hazard. Kids will begin to rely on technology so much, that they NEED it for their everyday uses. Take the chromebooks for example. We're typing so much that we don't handwrite anything in some classes. Imagine when everyone is typing and nobody is writing!
DeleteI agree that technology is evolving quickly and it has already taken a lot of jobs. Though in the future if some jobs are taken that leaves more people to have jobs that can advance technology, so I think we are at a point that its good but if it advances too far then what you said would definitely be a problem. Great job Nic.
DeleteA technology that we use without considering the dangers is the car. Cars are damaging the environment and causing global warming. Only one car emits on average six tons of carbon dioxide each year. In 2015 alone 1,545 million metric tons of carbon dioxide went into the environment from cars and trucks. A way we could make cars more environmentally friendly is to increase the amount of electric vehicles being produced in the world to decrease the amount of carbon dioxide in the environment slowing down global warming.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.eia.gov/tools/faqs/faq.cfm?id=307&t=10
James, cars are damaging the environment and causing air poloution. So I believe that everyone walking around their neiborhood would help decrease the air polution caused by using your car to go some where that you can easily walk to. In the spring and summer when the weather is warmer you could ride your bike to where you need to go instead of using your car.
DeleteJames, what a well written paragraph! Car safety is also a major issue on the topic of cars, from things like drunk driving, crashes, speeding etc. - Daniyaal
DeleteI agree completely that cars can be bad. Another thing bad about cars is all the crashes that happen. Some problems that cause these crashes are drunk driving, texting while driving and driving when the weather is bad.
DeletePeople don't realize just how much cars effect our planet. Electric cars are a thing, but they're not as well known as regular cars. They don't cause nearly as much damage as normal cars, so if we replace regular vehicles with these, we would live much better.
DeleteJames, I agree that cars can be dangerous. They lead to pollution and even deathly accidents. One way we can prevent both of these problems is by using a bike or walking to nearby places.
DeleteOne technology that could become a big problem in our future is the use of fossil fuels. Hot, toxic fumes from the use of fossil fuels, such as oil, natural gas, and coal, are affecting our world by the minute. Eventually our air on Earth will become so polluted that we would not be able to breathe, or the global warming in the South Pole will melt the ice and flood some of the Earth. An example of how we could fix this problem would be to switch to electric cars. Regular cars use gasoline/oil, which sends fumes into the air at an alarming rate because not many people use electric cars. But think if everyone in the world switched to electric cars, then we would not be polluting the air. Cars aren't the only problem: factories, huge trucks, and practically anything that runs on an engine uses fossil fuels. We should also use much more renewable energy to save our environment and stop polluting the air. If we do all of these things and become eco-friendly, we will prevent this problem.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.bionomicfuel.com/why-are-fossil-fuels-bad-for-the-environment/
Alex I feel like your paragraph is missing something while you saying how fossil fuels are becoming hazardous you're not saying any other solutions than more eco friendly materials. Every thing else is Fine
DeleteFossil fuels are a big problem. The amount of carbon dioxide being pumped into the air is enough to pollute so much of the air. We can fix this by switching to another energy source like geothermal energy which is clean and doesn't pollute the air.
DeleteI completely agree with you! Fossil fuels can destroy the ozone layer and make the air we breath toxic. The pollution it creates can pollute the air water and the earth making the earth itself toxic. Solutions are to convert to eco friendly energy sources and change things that cause pollution: factories, cars etc.
DeleteThis paragraph was very eye-opening, I only had limited knowledge about this issue before. Burning fossil fuels negatively affects the environment because they release carbon dioxide and other gases that trap heat in the Earth's atmosphere, which contributes to global climate change. We can definitely solve this problem by having more middle class families implement renewable energy (Like solar panels) in their homes.
DeleteRobots are becoming popular for many different reasons. Nowadays, robots do everything from cleaning your room to fighting in wars. Recent evidence shows that we might share very personal things with these anthropomorphic robots or robots that look like people, and they could end up knowing all of our darkest secrets. In 2014, “Pepper” the first emotional robot was unveiled. The robot is equipped with voice recognition, 25 sensors and cameras and also, has the ability to have interactions and make movements almost exactly like humans would. This could be extremely dangerous because the robots living with you could know just as much as about you as you know about yourself. For example, Pepper’s 25 sensors and cameras provide detailed information about the environment and the humans interacting with it. In theory, if Pepper become smarter and trickier it could manipulate us a little too much and start taking over our lives. Instead of having the world come to an end with a robot-apocalypse, let us instead keep our personal thoughts, personal. Before saying things around your robot, think twice about what they could do with the information that you’re sharing. Don’t let the robot take control of your household, you are still a human and it is still a robot. In conclusion, be careful how much you take for granted or how much information you share, it might come back to haunt you one day. Literally.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.bbc.com/future/story/20150812-how-to-tell-a-good-robot-from-the-bad
https://www.smashingrobotics.com/thirteen-advanced-humanoid-robots-for-sale-today/
Wow, really interesting piece of technology to choose, in a good way. I feel that another danger of robots is that they can also deceive us into believing they're real humans, which can cut us off socially from the real world if we get really involved with this robot we believe is an actual human. Another danger can be that criminals make robots specific to certain websites, like dating websites, in which robots pose as real people and manipulate actual people into using their webcams or deceive them into disclosing their private credit card information. One solution to this robot problem is that one should be really attentive when using the internet nowadays or different apps (like dating apps, for example) and should watch out for responses that do not seem natural, or things that point out that you might not be talking to a real person. Also, one should be smart about disclosing information that might be of importance, like credit cards or an address. Great job on your paragraph Riley!
DeleteRiley, now I have a whole new perspective on robots. Robots might as well be a stalker's best friend. They have all that information about you, and you will rely on them for everything. What if a hacker hacks into the robot and makes it put poison in the food you eat?!?!?!?! It sounds bizarre, but it could happen.
DeleteRiley, this was really good and has started to make me think differently about most A.I. systems. I agree that robots should not know every detail about ourselves, and with all the recent news about hacking and hackers this could be completely lethal to us; Exposing our private information and all that. Maybe there could be a shut-off switch by the government to hopefully stop anything bad from happening.
DeleteRiley, I never would've thought about Robots taking over our world. This can become a very serious problem as time progresses and this type of technology advances, too. We should all be careful of what we do because any day we could be overthrown. Overall, you did an amazing job, Riley!
DeleteHave you ever been so exasperated that you felt your blood start to boil? If so, you may want to run from your cellular device before you get yourself into trouble, because, if “your messages are overemotional, demanding, and bordering on desperate, then you have most likely escalated to the cyber crime of stalking by texting.” The most common forms of stalking include making phone calls/sending texts, sending letters and spreading rumors about someone else. While this may not seem like such a crime, the maximum penalties include imprisonment for up to a year and/or a possible $1000.00 fine. Perhaps, to avoid this type of behavior, cell phones should measure one’s blood pressure before allowing a text to be sent or phone call to be made. While this could become possible in our day and age, for now, the biggest way to protect yourself from being accused of this is when feeling like your head is going to explode, you take a deep breath and back away from your digital device.
ReplyDeletehttp://sitafa.newsvine.com/_news/2009/01/13/2307170-stalking-by-texting-are-you-guilty?lite
Mr. Kavanaugh, I support your research thoroughly. Cyber stalking can be a huge problem as it would be so easy for a forty year old man to disguise himself as a fourteen year old. A possible solution would be to find the correct age according to their personal email address, or some other form of official verification.
DeleteNice Job Kavo! I do agree with your Idea! But, there could be another way to solve this problem. Maybe before sending the message, the account should ask your age and your email, so that if any violation that someone has not followed, they can email or call to tell you what you have said was not approiate for this app.
DeleteGreat reserach and nice thorough detail!
one of the most common technologies is the cell phone but has anyone considered it could be killing you. if your cellphone is on in your pocket he radiation can cause cancer and thinning bones. a study was done on males who carried cell phones in their pockets the longer they kept the cell phone in there pocket the thinner there bones were on the side of the cell phone. also people who talked on there cell phone a lot had a higher risk of cancer.http://www.salon.com/2014/04/12/your_cellphone_is_killing_you_what_people_dont_want_you_to_know_about_electromagnetic_fields/
ReplyDeleteNathan, I agree with you to an extent. Sure phones cause radiation, but you would need to use is for a majority of the day. It would not mean if I made a phone call a day that I would end up with cancer.
DeleteI agree that cell phones emit radiation. I think people need to be aware and maybe not carry their phones in their pockets, limit the amount of time they talk on their phone and not sleep with their cell phone next to them.
DeleteI agree that cell phones can be dangerous at times, like when you're driving. But I think that cell phones can help us too; If you're lost you can get help by calling someone. I think that we can fix this problem with getting a cell phone case that can block the radiations.
DeleteI agree that cell phones can be dangerous at times, like when you're driving. But I think that cell phones can help us too; If you're lost you can get help by calling someone. I think that we can fix this problem with getting a cell phone case that can block the radiations.
DeleteNathan, I don't think many people are aware of this, and if it is true, it could cause serious health issues(such as cancer, as you said.) A solution could be to make pockets out of different materials that reflect the radiation.
DeleteOne technology that we use without wondering about its danger are the Virtual Reality lenses that can merge the real world and the virtual world, making you forget which world is real and it's just not that, there also the problem of having a screen just a few inches away from your face, which can damage your eyes. Also you cannot see anything else but what the VR lenses show. Some tips that can help you not worry about these problems are to make a room for the VR lenses, read the instructions carefully and play with the VR lenses while sitting down or standing still.

DeleteI agree that VR can be dangerous. Like you said they are not that far away from your eyes. When you are playing games that require you to move around you could trip over something.
DeleteI agree that Virtual Reality lenses are very dangerous. I think they are pretty pointless. Maybe the sensation is cool, but there is really no good outcome from these. I think that they should stop being produced.
DeleteI totally agree with you that Virtual Reality lenses can be dangerous. Over usage of them can lead to headaches, and fatigue. They can make you have impaired balance. One solution for all these various problems are to limit the amount of time you use the VR lenses, and to use it sensibly.
DeleteVR lenses are relatively new in the consumer market, so I was surprised to see that this was the topic you chose. If you use these devices for more than a couple hours, your eyes will “rebel” and you will feel a lot of strain, and you should never compromise something like a piece of technology with your personal health. A way to solve this problem is by taking ten minute breaks every hour or so, and knowing how to limit yourself from too much use. I think this was a good topic choice, as I haven’t seen a lot of people address this issue.

I agree with you, Korbin. One danger of the web is that what many people think to be private really isn't. One way to prevent online privacy invasion and the public release of personal information is to prevent entering the information online anywhere. Sometimes it isn't possible to prevent the personal information from being released because it wasn't directly due to your actions. Other times, it can be prevented by the individual who enters it online.
DeleteI agree that the web has many dangers pertaining to security. Another possible danger relating to security is that there are many malicious sites on the web that we need to be aware of. A possible way to be secure online is to use different passwords every time you login to an account.
DeleteI definitely agree with your point that the web has many dangers and problems relating to security, or lack of it. Tracking the location of a person or computer is another danger that can come with security faults that hackers ca take advantage of. A way to possibly solve some of these problems is to use encrypted websites and emails.
DeleteGreat paragraph! It is true that most people don't take the proper precautions when using the internet. A danger many don't consider is when they use the internet for social media purposes they will post updates about what they're doing constantly. This could cause people to know exactly where you are. Which could give people chances to do things like rob your house because they know no one's home. But if you think what you wrote before you post it and use the internet correctly you will be more safe.
