In one paragraph, you will summarize the historical time period or event that you have researched so far. In your paragraph, be sure to include:
- at least two specific details from your notes to help you summarize the historical time period or event,
- a lesson that you think can be learned from the historical time period or event and applied to the future, one that is supported by the two details you include, and
- proper spelling, punctuation and grammar.
The rebellious 1970s. Tye-dye, the Bee Gees, and of course, freedom. There was a man who promised peace, love, & prosperity. But it also came with a death toll of 918 people. Jim Jones; an Indiana boy. He was very religious, and was just like any other man. He had started preaching in 1953 on Laurel Street, but soon gained a large following. He had begun what he called “People’s Temple”. Which expanded so greatly it had become a settlement, in a South American country called Guyana. But on November 18th, 1978 when congressman Leo Ryan came for a visit, it got ugly. He had given his followers a fruit drink that had been laced with cyanide. It was horrifying. What had promised a life of peace and love, turned gruesome, and dark. The Jonestown massacre had happened on that day.
ReplyDeleteWere there any that survived that you could right and how they survived.
Deletethe main conflict is, November, 18th,1978 when congressman Leo Ryan came for a visit
DeleteA characterś behavior could be dark and gloomy. They would be very loyal to their leader.
DeleteThe event that is taking place is The Bombing of Pearl Harbor. The attack took place on December 7th 1941 at around 7:55am. 2,400 Americans were killed when the Japanese were bombing. And 1,000 others were still wounded after the bombing and needed attending to. Japan at this point of time wanted to expand their empire so they were going after any land they could find. And they started growing tension with the U.S and so they planned an attack on the U.S. The lesson I think that we can learn from this is to take all the warnings that you can. The U.S had a hold of the Philippines during this time, and the Philippines were very close to where the Japanese had taken over French Indochina. So the U.S all along thought that they would attack the Phillippines and they were so set on that. But there were two occurrences where officials in places had gotten informacion that would say that they would attack in the U.S. There was one instance where someone had predicted the attack. In 1924 U.s army Officer William Michell had said “Japan's ideas of expanding its empire would eventually lead to a war with the U.S” Another instance is when Joseph Grew the U.S ambassador had heard that incase of U.S tenses with Japan that they would attack Pearl Harbor. But nobody took these signs seriously. Everybody didn’t trust Grew because he was unpredictable so nobody took his signs. If we take these warnings it can save people's lives or worse hurt our country.
ReplyDeleteFor a conflict you could be the US president wondering what to do after the attack on the pearl harbor.
DeleteThe main conflict could be a person in the attack/participating.
DeleteFor a conflict in your writing you can create a perspective of a person in the middle of the battle.
DeleteA conflict could be is what problems the Philippines face, while under the attack by the U.S.
DeleteThe characters emotions could be scared and sad because of the bombing. The characters could have torn up and messy cloths with wounds and scars.
DeleteBattle Of Dien Bien Phu
ReplyDeleteThe Battle of Dien Bien Phu was the first Indochina War. It took place between March 13, 1954 to May 7, 1954. The battle occured because the French wanted to resupply the French Position by air. They did not know that the Viet Minh had any anti-aircraft capability. They also wanted to cut the Viet Minh's supply lines into the Neighboring Kingdom of Laos. In March of that year the Viet Minh had begun a massive artillery bombardment of the French Defenses. As the Viet Minh's anti-aircraft weapons artillery bombarded the airstrip, fewer and fewer supplies were reaching the French. The Viet Minh ended up winning and marking the end of French occupation of Indochina. There is a huge lesson to be learned from this battle in history. The lesson is to not underestimate your opponents.
A potential conflict that could work may be a soldier who fought in this war for the Viet Minh.
DeleteYou could make the main conflict about a person in control of the anti-aircraft.
DeleteYour M.C could look like a young indochinese child that got drafted to fight in the war.
DeleteYour character could look starving because the French didn't have supplies.
DeleteI think you could have your character have a accent from where ever there from as a allusion to your character.
Deletethe characters can be feeling scared or in a panic
DeleteThe event that this historical fiction essay is taking place in is the 9/11 attack. Specifically the attacks on the World Trade Center. The main character (Emily) and her mom are in a restaurant right next to the World Trade Center called Windows on the World. More than 70 of the workers at that restaurant died that day. About 3,000 people were killed on September 11, 2001. It was a day that greatly shaped America. It is very important that we not only learn what happened that day but also how it impacted Americans. And that lesson can be learned from this essay. In this story, Emily’s mom tragically passes while they are trying to get away from the collapsing towers. Who knew that what seemed to be a perfect, beautiful day could turn into a day that people will never forget. 2,750 people were killed in New York that day. Some people are still dying from the smoke getting into their lungs. At 8:46 am, the first terrorist attack took place. More than 14,000 workers that had already gotten to work were there when the planes struck the World Trade Center. This essay will completely capture the despair that America felt on this day. Emily is just one of them. And this is her story.
ReplyDeleteWhen the 9/11 attacked happened I know how it happened but I really want to know why did they really want to crash into the twin building

DeleteThe main conflict could be why did Osama Bin Laden plane this attack
DeleteThe main conflict could be about this possible character being in the actual plane.
DeleteI think you could have your character have a accent from where ever there from as a allusion to your character. Have a strong New York accent, or for appearance they could explain how they felt smoke in their lungs from the fire of the building.
DeleteA suggestion for the appearance of a main character, could be, a character coming outside of the building, with burnt clothes, after the attack, suffering from the burns.
DeleteThe Korean war aka the “Forgotten War” was a huge war that today many people don't know about. This war caused $164,000,000,000 in damages and had a higher civilian death rate than WWII and the Vietnam war. Hundreds of thousands of people died during this war because North Korea was trying to invade South Korea after WWII. This is because North Korea thought that South Korea was vulnerable after the second World War. The United States helped South Korea in battle while communist Russia and China supported the north. In the end lots of people died on both sides for it to be a tie. I think that the lesson is whenever you get an opportunity for power, the reason that the chance is there could be for a reason.
ReplyDeleteA main conflict you could use in your story is a civilian (North or South Korean) trying to survive in the crossfire of the war. You could also do the same thing, but with a soldier on either side.
DeleteA conflict could be a civilian in the area who may have been affected by the attacks.
DeleteUnder Hitler’s rule, thousands died, most of which were Jewish. By 1941, more than 80,000 people had already died. There were some people who stood up against the Nazis' wrongs. White Rose was a group of students that stood up to the Nazis. Throughout the whole Holocaust, Jews never gave up; they stayed true to their beliefs; they persevered.
ReplyDeleteA main conflict that could happen is that your character is the one standing up to the Nazi's.
DeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
DeleteA conflict could be one of the students in the White Rose group who stood up against the Nazis.
DeleteIn September 2001, the FDNY put their lives on the line for thousands of citizens who were trapped in the World Trade Center after two terrorist attacks killed thousands. The FDNY dropped everything and hastily rushed to the towers, knowing that time was running out, and people needed help. Not one firefighter refused to go into the towers. The men knew that the fire would not go out. They knew they had to climb over 100 stories with over 70 pounds on their backs. They knew many of them would not survive. Yet they did it and saved around 30,000 people. There is a reason these men are called New York’s bravest. They can inspire all of us to be a little more courageous, even when it's hard.
ReplyDeleteThe main conflict could be one of the FDNY firefighters saving citizens and dealing with 911.
DeleteThe main conflict could be firefighters trying to save other people in the worlds trade center and losing their lives trying to save some one else.
DeleteThe main character could be the pilot in the plane or a worker in the trade center.
DeleteI think the main character look scared and have torn clothes because of the event in time.
DeleteOn September 9th, 2001, four planes were hijacked. There were a combined total of nineteen hijackers. The first two planes that got hijacked crashed into the World Trade Centers also known as the Twin Towers (Manhattan). The third plane crashed into the Pentagon (Government Building in Washington D.C.). The fourth plane crashed in Somerset County, Pennsylvania. On the fourth plane, passengers started to fight back the hijackers so the hijackers decided to crash the plane right away. First responders quickly went to the Twin Towers, Pentagon, and to Somerset County. During the attacks, some firefighters stayed behind to rescue people. The firefighters showed perseverance by saving others besides themselves. The paramedics saved many people from dying. They took them to safety and helped the people who were hurt. Many lives were saved that day but also taken away. The main thing to do in these situations is to persevere and have hope.
ReplyDeleteA character on a plane who knew the plane was hijacked and they knew it was going to crash and they were going to die.
DeleteA character in your story could behave very on edge, while also behaving bravely.
DeleteNever underestimate the power of electricity.
ReplyDeleteA bridge fell.It crashed into smithereens all because someone didn't listen. The captain was told that the power supply was inconsistent and that its not safe to leave. They left anyways.About 30 minutes later after their departure from the Baltimore Port the lights started flickering. The captain go out his walkie talkie and said “MAYDAY MAYDAY”that gave the police officers 90 second to clear as many people as possible off the bridge. The 6 that were left fell into the frigid deep water. It's actually crazy because 2 of the workers survived but 1 out of the 2 didn't know how to swim. There is now an ongoing investigation on this situation and it will take 1-2 years. One month later they start cleaning the river and find 5/6 bodies. They are moving the boat soon, it's called the Dali.
I think a main conflict could be one of the survivors trying to get over the trauma.
DeleteA main conflict could be people getting over the trauma.
DeleteI think your main character could be a worker on the ship like and he/she could kind of be scared or nervous and like hesitant because they're scared that the captain went even though he shouldn't have. They could also be dressed in dirty clothes and their hair can be moist from water splashing on the boat.

DeleteA possible main character idea is: A messy-dressed worker who feels like they are inadequate for not helping more, and they are frantic and stressed.
DeleteOn August 29, 2005, disaster struck New Orleans, Louisiana. Hurricane Katrina, a Category 3 hurricane, hit the city at 6:10 a.m. The water from Lake Pontchartrain burst through the levees surrounding New Orleans, and the streets soon became flooded with muddy water, debris, and poisonous snakes. People flocked to the Superdome, or “the shelter of last resort,” and many remained stuck in their attics or on their roofs. Racism also played a huge role in this disaster, as white people from drier areas refused to help black people fleeing from their own storm-torn neighborhoods. The proper help for New Orleans residents didn’t come until September 2, when 30,000 National Guard troops entered the city. Despite the 1,833 deaths, $161 billion in damage, stolen goods from desolate stores, and 60,000 houses destroyed beyond repair, New Orleans bounced back after years of recovery. This disaster shows that you can persevere through tough times, and you will eventually find hope.

DeleteA possible central conflict could be: a victim of racism struggling to survive after the hurricane.
DeleteThe main conflict could be how the whites didn't help the blacks.
DeleteI think that one conflict that you could do is your M.C should be a black person working in the coast guard to save people. But while he's saving people he experiences racism from people that he saved.
DeleteYour character could be scared and maybe even a nice person trying to help others besides their skin tones
DeleteThe main conflict could be about someone in the middle of the conflict on the hurricane.
DeleteYou could make someone who is being racist to someone get hurt like they got karma for what they did.
DeleteFor my topic, the Holocaust I think the central idea is it’s ok to be yourself. The Holocaust was the planned destruction of Jews. Between 1933 and 1945 the Nazis killed 6 million Jews. The Nazis leader was Adolf Hitler. The Nazis murdered East Europeans, people with illnesses or disabilities, Jehovah’s Witnesses, Gypsies, Communist, homosexuals, and political prisoners. People of all ages were prisoners in the concentration camps. Some concentrations were Treblinka, Chelmno, Auschwitz, Majdanek, Sobibor, and Belzec.
ReplyDeleteYour M.C could be a young jewish boy with ragged clothing. They could be very shy, and quiet. he could talk only a little and nod and shake more.
DeleteI think a conflict could be someone who was in one of the Concentration camps. This person could have the behavior of a leader, or someone who raises the morale of other characters.
DeleteOn June 6th, 1944, Allied soldiers from France, the United States, England, and Canada invaded the Beaches of Normandy. The main idea for this invasion was to push the German forces back to Germany to end the war. The Germans place mines on wooden posts and Czech Hedgehogs as Anti-Boat Obstacles. The mines blew up tanks, boats, and even soldiers that jumped in the water to avoid machine gun fire. At the start of the invasion, the German machine gun fire was the hardest obstacle for the Allies, especially for the African American soldiers. The African American soldiers had to unload the crates of ammunition and weapons off the boats in the middle of the deadly hailstorm of bullets. The German soldiers even fired at the unarmed medics on the beach. This was a problem because no one was allowed to shoot at the opposing side's medics. A lesson that we can learn from this is that we should always be persistent when doing the right thing, even though it can be very challenging sometimes.
ReplyDeleteYou could do a story about a soldier trying to survive the hardship of this invasion to end the war.
Deletethey could have deadly storms and have to get treated
DeleteYou could have a guy who is mad and angry because Canada invaded and he could be in the fight/war
DeleteA character idea could be a soldier with smoke smeared face and close stained black and be sad and glad that the war was over.
DeleteThe Vietnam War was a long, difficult war for so many people. Nationalist forces tried to unify Vietnam under a communist government, while the U.S. and South Vietnam attempted to stop the spread of communism. It lasted from 1959 till April 30, 1975, when South Vietnam finally surrendered to North Vietnam. If the U.S. hadn’t intervened, so many people wouldn’t have died. Almost 2 million civilians in both North and South Vietnam died. About 250,000 South Vietnamese soldiers died. A lesson we can learn from this event in history is to stay out of other people’s fights, sometimes it can make your life and other’s lives worse.
ReplyDeleteI think that a possible main conflict is your main character fighting in Vietnam with some of his friends that got drafted with him.
DeleteThey could have not done anything and the Vietnam would have probably won the war
DeleteYou could do someone whose family was innocent and killed in the war and now they have to deal with the war alone
Delete9/11 was a tragic event but I think there couldve been SO many ways to prevent this very hurtful event for example the terrioist was just walking through the airport with a knife and box cutter if I was the government I would invest into more airport security and metal detectors and stuff that will detect weapons. Another thing I think all flight attendants should have is a pocket knife or a weapon to prevent them from doing anything. Over 3000 people total died because the airports didnt have enough security. Lots of familys of the victims were devestated. Another detail is that multiple planes crashed. As soon as my employees heard that a plane had been hijacked I would have delayed ALL flights on my airline till further notice. I wouldve checked everybodys bags before letting them on the plane after the delay. I think the leason here is that you should always be prepared or overly prepared no matter how much you trust something or someone.
ReplyDeleteOne of the survivors in 911.
DeleteI also do believe that 9/11 was a very avoidable event, I think for your writing a good conflict would be - 1: a person in the planes that crashed in the Twin Towers - 2: A worker risking their life to save people in the planes crash
DeleteYour character could be panicked because they didn't know what was going on.
DeleteA character you could have could have died from the tower falling on top of them. But when their families went to find them they couldn't recognize them.
DeleteHurricane Katrina
ReplyDeleteHurricanes are one of the most dangerous natural disasters and they cause loads of money in the aftermath. Hurricane Katrina is a major hurricane and damaged lots of Louisiana, Mississippi, and a very small portion of Florida. In Louisiana, New Orleans was destroyed and as a result of the hurricane 100,000 people were left behind there and 25,000 headed to the superdome for protection. After the Hurricane the federal government needed to put more than $126 billion dollars into repairs and building. Because the levees were destroyed and flooded in New Orleans, maybe next time they should have tested what they made for protection to increase the safety of their residents.
A main conflict that you could use for your story could be a character trying to survive during the hurricane. You could also make a story based on how a character is trying to rebuild their life after the hurricane hit.
DeleteThe characters could be scared of dying and trying to survive the flood.
DeleteThe characters tone when they talk might be scared and worried because of the hurricane. There emotions could be scared and sad.
DeleteI think your main character could be a shy young kid who's always been scared to be the center of attention and a nervous person but in your story they could have to rise up and take care of other people and be brave and not nervous and try to conquer their fears.
DeleteThe Women’s March occurred on January 21st, 2017, the day after Donald Trump’s inauguration. Thousands of women (and other non-women but mostly women) from across the nation surrounded the white house with signs, pink accessories, and pink hats (symbols of feminism), protesting Donald Trump’s election by “fighting with love”. The 2016 election was the closest America had been (at the time) to having a female president, so people were extremely disappointed when Hillary Clinton lost. Some even cried after the election. Citizens were also angry about the discriminating things Trump had said about women and other people. At the protest, they demanded rights for reproduction, immigrants, muslims, LGBTQ+, and disabled people. The March certainly had an impact on American history and changed the lives and perspectives of many people. The Women’s March teaches us to fight for what is right, and to persevere in difficult times.
ReplyDeleteThe women's rights are being limited. This could be supported with statistics of like the amount of protesters
DeleteA possible central conflict for this information is: a type of person that Donald Trump said discriminating things toward gathered her and her friends to go march in the Women's March.
DeleteShe is a she, has blue eyes, a nice blue dress and some nice heels.
DeleteA possible suggestion for this story, could be the appearance of the main character. They could most likely being a shirt, with the demanding rights, displayed on their shirt.
DeleteThe Virginia Tech shooting on Monday, April 16, 2007 was the deadliest mass shooting at the time. Seung-Hui-Cho was the shooter that caused more than 35 deaths. Cho had a history of mental illness and was even told by a judge that he needed outpatient care after making suicidal remarks to his roomates. The morning of the shooting Cho sent NBC News a package with recordings and pictures of him with the guns that he used on the day of the shooting. In one of the videos Cho states “you could’ve stopped me” and then proceeded to point a gun at the camera. What we can learn from this piece of history is that when someone is showing signs of mental health issues, you have to watch out for it and try to help them. It’s important to know that it’s also okay to ask for help, Cho suffered from mental illness and that is one of the main reasons that this is one of the top mass shootings.
ReplyDeleteA possible conflict idea is your main character trying to survive the Virginia tech shooting.
DeleteA conflict you could use is someone who's in the school at the time of the shooting.
DeleteSeptember 11, 2001, a date no one could forget. The lifes of about 3000 were cut short without a single warning. New York City became a view of only smoke and debris as the Twin Towers burned. At 8:46am the North tower was hit by American Airlines Flight 11. Questions flooded peoples heads onto why the plane crashed straight into the tower.Until soon after at 9:03am the South Tower would be hit by United Airlines Flight 175. It was clear it wasn´t a malfunction in the planes, nor a bad pilot. The planes were hijacked and this was an attack. Firefighter ran towards the scene fearlessly, and law enforcement helped the people. The bravery of these people brought hope to humanity.
ReplyDeleteThe possible main conflict could be the attack on the twin towers in 2001 on September 11.
Deletean appearance would be questions flooded peoples heads onto why the plane crashed straight into the tower
DeleteA main characters emotion could be scared and anxious. They could be confused.
DeleteIn the late 1700s, the revolutionary war was starting to kick off. When the British started to put taxation on lethal items in that time period, there was outrage. The people of the colonies and Boston had enough from the British so they went and dumped British tea into the Boston harbor. Then the colonists attempted fighting the British with any weapons they could get their hands on. But during those fights the British killed five colonists. The British wanted to meet up with the American army to take away the colonists weapons. But then, one of the soldiers from either side shot their gun which made a shock on the battlefield and soon enough everybody started shooting their guns which was the opening to the Revolutionary War. I think a great lesson from this is that when there can be tough challenges, people will come together and fight.
ReplyDeleteFor a conflict you could be one of the people pouring tea into the Boston harbor
DeleteFor your main conflict you could make it a soldier in war that ended up dying. By describing the death it will show the reader how bad and terrible the war was as a soldier during this time period.
DeleteThe main character could be a colonist or or founding father.
Deletefor the main conflict more giving and more like people in the story.
DeleteA conflict could be a colonist who participated in the dumping of tea in the Boston harbor. This person could be someone who is upset with the unfair British rule, which may be why they behave in a way of protesting.
DeleteIn life people face loss, and it’s hard to overcome that. In 2001 September 11th this tragic event had hit New York very hard. Many families had died in this attack, from the 9/11 events. People had lost their lives from terrorists that had taken many lives. More than 3,000 people died in this event, including kids, adults and innocent lives. The planes that had hit the South and North Twin towers, that had killed every person on the planes, and so many in the buildings. Passengers had been threatened by bombs and weapons on these planes. These Terrorists may have been against the US, but this had a big effect on the United States. There was fear that day, to all the families and lives, that were shocked by these actions. These terrorists should have thought about what they are doing, and why they were making the choice they did. I guess almost every person in life faces a little loss, but some can’t move on from that.
ReplyDelete-Grace Kachadurian
your main conflict should be, the planes the hit the south and north twin towers
DeleteYour main conflict could be why did the terrorist decide to do this.
DeleteYour main character could look brave and maybe even be strong enough to go into the towers to help others get out.
DeleteThroughout human history there have been a lot of hard times. one example of this is world war 2. During world war 2, 70 million people died fighting for their country. during the war hitler killed 6 to 8 million jews and homosexual people because he didn't like them so what do you think is the hardest point for humans in history.
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
DeleteI think the main conflict can be someone who was in the process of recovering from the Holocaust or someone who had just got out of the holocaust like the author from "Writing In The Stars" did.
DeleteI think there should be more equality and more history.
DeleteI think your character should be sad and scared because this is a traumatic time.
DeleteThe Versailles treaty proposed harsh punishments for Germany and that made the people of Germany want to go back to their previous form
ReplyDeleteOne lesson you could learn from World War II is that you should not put overly harsh taxes on one nation, because they were on the opposing or “ wrong “ side. It would be like cornering them, so they would react and seek revenge on the people who made their country a very hard place to live. Another lesson is, if you are in your darkest hour never follow a person who promises you everything, but wants to hurt other people. Hitler promised the German people that he will make their country great again, but he only promised them that if they hated the Jewish people and any other person that Hitler didn’t like.
Why can't they make harsh taxes, well I mean I would not want harsh taxes, And I wonder why they hate Jewish people.
DeleteHere's an offer I think could be a possible main conflict of this story. The main character could be Jewish, and fight against harsh problems Hitler puts against him, while the character is in a concentration camp.
DeleteYou could have a homeless German who suffered from taxes and expensises.
DeleteA character in your story could have a type of emotion that makes them easily angered, and a lot of their talking may give the hint that they are angry, annoyed, etc.
DeleteYou could make your main character a woman in the camp and describe what it was like to be a jermain woman in that time period.
ReplyDeletein 1601 the siege of kinsale had taken place. there were more then 6,000 deaths of civilians alone. my message is war is gritty.
