Wilbur and Orville Wright were brothers that had been experimenting with flight and eventually flew the first airplane. I think a lesson that people can take away from them is that if at first you don’t succeed, try try again. I believe this pertains to the Wright brothers and how at first their attempts to fly were unsuccessful but after repairing their damaged plane and trying again, they were able to fly! The Wright brothers had designed the first efficient airplane propeller and their own engine for their plane. Then in 1905 Orville did the unthinkable and made it fly! Even though their first attempt was a fail, they tried again and eventually succeeded.

DeleteOn August 28, 2005, hurricane Katrina struck Louisiana and other states around. It was a category 5 hurricane, even though 24 hours earlier it was a category 1. It caused flooding all around, some places have 10+ feet of water. It caused millions in damage, and over 1800 died, thousands missing. Most who died were over the age of 74, and almost half died from drowning. Many people didn't think much of it when they found out it was a category 1, but it ended up being one of the most powerful storms. DeleteThe Apache tribe in Southwest America in the mid-1800s faced many challenges. American soldiers and Mexican bounty hunters attacked the Apache often. Americans were looking into Western expansion for the United States and forcefully tried to move the Apache and relocate them. Lozen, a woman who defied gender stereotypes and fought bravely, won back Native lands many times. She was a skilled archer, horseback rider, and medicinal master. Although the Apache eventually got moved to Florida for exile, her efforts are greatly appreciated and helped preserve the Native culture today.
ReplyDeleteThe US government could learn from this. We singlehandedly wiped out almost the whole Native population with no regard to their unique culture. Instead of pushing Native people out, we could’ve coexisted peacefully. This would have resulted in fewer lives lost, less violence, and more Native American representation today. Right now, we need to fight to bring down racism and be more accepting toward other cultures so other diversities don’t disappear too.

DeleteOn September 11th 2001 the U.S had 4 suicide bomber attacks by planes. This attack was the most deadly attack on U.S soil to this day and killed almost 3,000 people. The attacks were lead by an Islamic terrorist group by the name of Al Qaeda with their leader Osama Bin Laden. The first two attacks were on the twin towers in N.Y City. People thought the first plane was an accident but when the second one came the U.S knew they were under attack. The next attack happened at the pentagon in Washington leaving a burning hole in the pentagon. The last attack was taken over by crew members and they crashed the plane in an open field in Pennsylvania. DeleteI believe that one lesson we can learn from the Jim Crow laws is that change is hard and won't be instantaneous. The Jim Crow laws were a set of laws made to segregate black people from white people. Very soon after reconstruction ended, the Jim Crow laws were made, which wiped out almost everything people of color had gained from reconstruction. Everywhere you looked there was segregation, from buses, to schools, to even bathrooms! In Louisiana, 130,000 black people could vote in 1896. However, by 1904, only 1,342 black people could vote. The Jim Crow laws had started near the beginning of the 1870's and finally ended in 1965, decades later!

DeleteMy topic is the Salem Witch Trials. This was a very interesting topic with some very interesting facts. One day in 1692 two girls, Nine year old Elizabeth “Betty” Parris and 11 year old Abigail Williams started having fits. The fits included random outbursts of screaming and “violent contortions”. The doctor that was hired to see what was wrong said that they were bewitched. The girls were told to say who did this to them. They said it was the Parris’s Carribean slave Tituba, Sarah Good, and Sarah Osborne. More and more people became bewitched. During this time approximately 140 people were accused of witchcraft. 20 people were executed for being witches, including two dogs. It wasn’t certain that it was witchcraft though. Before this there was a war with the British. There was also a smallpox epidemic and a harsh winter. One more thing was salmonella. Eating raw chicken can make you sick. These are all thought to be causes of these fits. I think one of the lessons here is that we can’t always believe what our first instinct tells us. Sometimes we have to look deeper than what we see on the surface.

Elizabeth Cady stanton also wrote the declaration of sentiments and was shown at the convention for the first time.

DeleteThe siege of Fort William Henry is a battle at which the French attacked Fort William Henry again, but this time winning. George Monro was left at the fort with 2,300 British troops, while 8,000 French troops came to take it over. The battle only lasted six days and the fort had been surrendered on August 9th. The lesson I think the battle proved is to never underestimate the enemy. During the battle, Monro underestimated the French. He thought he could beat them again after what happened at the battle of Fort William Henry. Instead the French killed 1,500 of his own men and then making him surrendering because of his own mistake.

DeleteWorld War Two was one of the deadliest wars with around 75 million deaths. It took place from September 1 1939 to september 2 1945. Before the war, America and the rest of the world where dealing with the great depression. This had a huge impact on society because many people didn't have jobs so there was little work getting done and people couldn't afford a lot of food and many people where dying fast. DeleteAl Capone, the man who put on a face in public, then went home and killed a man. Capone was a gangster. During the heart of the Prohibition, he rose to power. Capone bribed many police officers and Prohibition agents. Capone would produce and sell illegal alcohol: wine, ale, beer, moonshine, and all other types of alcohol, due to supply and demand; he could overcharge the hell out of the alcohol, making 60 million dollars a year (about 900 million today) he knew how to play the system for his own game, basic economics. The only reason Capone made this much money, was by using humans best trait, If we can't get something, we'll keep trying until we get our hands on it.

Till this day there's not one case of smallpox in the world. So Smallpoxs is not a thing.
ReplyDeleteOn October 1929 the great depression took place. When the stock market crashed many people called it an economic loss across the world. This lasted for 10 years until 1939. When the stock market crashed it whipped out millions of investors, many of them had to drop their workers due to not being able to pay them. Unemployment rose and people were making just enough money to support themselves and their family. At this time Herbert Hoover had just won the presidential election. During this many people doubted him as a president because he couldn’t solve this issue on his own. Lots of Americans doubted him as a president and wanted him removed from office. This problem showed the people that when we are under an issue the president wasn’t ready for it.
ReplyDeleteIn 1968 MLK came from Atlanta to Tennessee. He came because the sanitation workers needed justice. The sanitation workers were getting treated unfairly because they were a different color skin. So MLK came to help them. MLK was very well known at this point. He had just done a March on Washington speech in 1963. Well he tried to help them fight for fairness. MLK gave a speech at Mason Temple. The following day he was shot on the second floor of the Lorraine Motel. He was shot by a man named James Earl Ray. James Earl Ray killed MLK with a sniper bullet to the neck. The assassination of Martin Luther King Jr was one of the most earthshaking event of 1968. The lesson is that justice should be served to all people.

ReplyDeleteThe Berlin wall. Setup by russia to keep the countries in there controlled zones. The whole reason the wall was created because russia wanted the world to run on communism. But the UK And America were set up on capitalism. And didn't want the world to run off of the ways of communism.Families were split up and desperately tried to get to the other side and see there family members there were successful attempts and there were not successful attempts. No matter how hard the countries tried to keep people to stay in there controlled zones they never listened. And always found new ways to cross. My advice is that no matter what laws are set people will always find a way to get around those rules.
ReplyDeleteThe vietnam war started in 1955 and ended in 1973 58,000 americans died in 18 years. Vietnams were in trees planning to do gorilla warfare but americans had airforce and were catching trees on fire and americans also were on land and walking looking back and forth at trees then one soldier set off a trip wire and then a log full of spikes swinging back and forth then another group of americans were walking and looking then boom one fell into a spike trap witch had snakes venom on the spikes . Vietnam had a lot of traps and weapons but they did not have air force and americans did. Americans were getting lost in the jungle full of spiders and deadly animals and deadly gases from all of the trees on fire and many died from gasses.
ReplyDeleteIt was an early Sunday morning on December 7th, 1941 when the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor. America and Japan were on edge for decades and especially when the U.S. cut off the oil to Japan but nobody knew that we would end up declaring war on them. Over 2,000 Americans died during the attack and over 1,000 were wounded. It came as a huge surprise especially on a morning that people would be at church. The attack took months to plan but the attack took about 2 hours. I think the lesson that needs to be learned is that even in the most unexpected times we still need to be prepared for whatever could happen.
