Think of a person you look up to or admire based on a value he/she has or had (the person doesn’t need to still be alive). In one paragraph:
- discuss the value (values listed in Reading section of L.A. Binder on website) of the person that you look up to or admire, and
- use details from the person’s life and/or experiences to demonstrate the existence of the value.
ReplyDeleteDo you ever feel different from others? Confidence tarnished, Joshua Yuchasz first struggled to ignore his mocking peers when they ridiculed him for obsessing over snakes and lizards, or for knowing so much about volcanoes and tornadoes. When he learned that he had Asperger’s Syndrome, he could have allowed the perspectives of others to damage how he sees himself, but his confidence grew as he realized that his differences could lead him to great things, even a gene engineer. When we take pride in what makes us different, our confidence will only grow.
Do you ever feel alone and not good about yourself like you were different? If you were you are like Joshua Yuchasz. Joshua is a teenager in high school. When he was in lower grades he was ridiculed by everyone even to this day he is. Josh didn't really respect himself because he got ridiculed for aspergers. He was stuck on one subject even tho everyone else was on many different ones. He loved to talk about whales lizards and most of all… Godzilla. I am a Godzilla fanatic like he but I think about different things to. One day he learned he had Aspergers it is a type of autism. After he found that out he wanted to be like everyone else. He got ridiculed and made fun for having aspergers so he wanted to change to become Normal. But today he doesn't really care because he learned that what he is is what makes him and that to change something about you is to change you. No one wants to change himself and neither does joshua.
ReplyDeleteEven being ridiculed Josh knows that to be yourself is better than being something your not.
Josh should just be himself and not try to change that at all like you send. Josh just needs a friend to help him not change. He needs to be himself and know that he doesn't need to change.
DeleteI think it was important to explain how josh is affected by his disorder. I think that the characteristics were important for society today because people are really mean today and people shouldnt have to change to try be like other people. They should be who they are in the best way possible.
DeleteSomeone who I admire with a passion is my cousin Jase. He has a very rare disease that affects his heart, eyes, face and all of his body. To me, he is very strong. I say this because I know I know it's probably really hard the way he lives. He has tubes in him, wires attached and everything like that. He is only 5 years old and he will have a long rest of his life. My family and I will never think differently of him and will love him the same.
ReplyDeleteGood paragraph! It must be very hard for him to live like that, and I'm glad you admire him for it. I agree that people who are able to live through difficulties like that are very admirable, and I hope he has a good life as he grows up.
DeleteJackie Robinson was the first major league african american baseball player. I have tons of respect for Jackie and admire him a lot. Jackie was harassed by many white men for trying to accomplish his dream. Jackie had tons of talent on the field but was disrespected because he had a different skin color than everyone else. Jackie showed extreme toughness by not letting these racial slurs get to him. Jackie worked extremely hard to earn the respect and trust of his coaches, teammates and the fans as a african american baseball player.
ReplyDeleteThe characteristics that Jackie Robinson had are very important in our society today. Jackie showed toughness towards racial unfairness, and that is very important today because some people are still mistreated racially.
DeleteHave you ever fought for what you believe in? Martin Luther King Jr did, and he believed things would get better. Martin Luther King Jr had perseverance, and always stayed strong through everything he did.Martin Luther King Jr was part of the civil rights movement, and was later assassinated on April 4th 1968. At least he died with pride and lived life doing what he believed was right, and that's why I admire Martin Luther King Jr.
ReplyDeleteI believe that Martin Luther King Jr. is worthy of admiration because he has done so many impactful things in his life. His characteristic of perseverance in also important because he didn't give up until he got his point across.
DeleteMartin Luther King Jr. is worthy of admiration because he fought for what he believed in and made an impact on other people's lives. These characteristics are important in society today because like King, people shouldn't give up on what they are fighting for.
DeleteKyle has a big role in my life. We used to hate each other but now we don’t. We got into this huge fight ober something stupid. He is my best friend and he is always there for me.I can tell him anything and he doesn’t say anything to anyone. I know is deepest secret that no one else knows not even his best friend, who he has been best friends for 10 years now. If I ever seem sad he will call me and find a way to cheer me up. He is so caring and trustworthy because he doesn’t tell anyone anything I tell him and he will call me every night to see how my day went or if I have any problems. If I have problems he would try and help.
ReplyDeleteKyle's traits makes him easily likable in my opinion. It's wonderful that you guys made up, and like you Abby I need someone to pick me up when I fall down. Not only to comfort me. As well as to keep me going.
DeleteI like who you wrote about, friends who care and trust each other are friends till the very end. They are the ones to hold onto, stay good friends and keep being that way and you could priddy much be family.
DeleteI admire my mom because she is very hard working and is always being nice to everyone. My mom always does what's right for everyone around her. Over her life she has had 3 kids and has raised them all properly. She is always there to help people, and she has to do that everyday of her life because she is a guidance counselor at a middle school. this is why admiring my mom would not be a bad idea.
ReplyDeleteThis is a good piece. You can tell that you really admire your mom and that she would do anything for you and others.
DeleteHave others ever made you feel differently about yourself?Acceptance is the biggest thing I feel to see in yourself. My aunt chris really showed me that. She had scleroderma which is a muscle tightening disease, so she wasn't really accepted by lots of people. She had to work for everything she wanted to do. She didn't let people get to her. She would always tell me that "Your better then what whatever they are saying." or "You don't need them," etc. She always never what to say or do in any problem. Sadly she died a year ago, and I do miss her. She taught me a lot things now that I use everyday.
ReplyDeleteI agree that acceptance of yourself is extremely important, especially in the rather judgemental society of today. Your aunt staying strong in herself is really admirable, even with the people of the world working against her.
DeleteDo you ever feel different from others?Set behind from others,Joshua Sandquist first realized he had cancer when he was eight years old when his left leg started hurting the doctors found out it was cancer and immediately started Chemotherapy after a year he had to get a amputation in his left leg after five days he is out in the world again doing regular stuff and so that he is living proof that you can over come life challenges.
ReplyDeleteGood choice Jason. Joshua Sandquist shows that all challenges are able to be met with enough determination. Cancer is one of the biggest life challenges that someone can face and Joshua met the challenge in only five days. He shows the determination many people lack.
DeleteI look up to my brother Joe in life because he is like my sensei. He trains me to defend myself against bullies, and I used his training when I was in 6th grade and I beat up an 8th grader that was bullying me for three quarters of the year, because Pipa didn't do anything about after going to him 3 times and I got in trouble some how. Joe also gives me good advice. Joe is the smartest person I know for life advice and the second smartest person I know for sports.
ReplyDeleteMy other brother Paul is the smartest person I know for sports. Paul was my coach for basketball one year and he lead our team to the championships and we won, we beat the undefeated team. Joe has taught me a lot that school doesn't teach you.
This is a really good piece. You can sense your admiration for your brother through the writing. I liked how you compared your brother to a sensei because it added a lot to the piece. You can tell that you really look up to your brother and how smart he is. You also mention that he gives you a lot of life advice. You are lucky to have someone in your life like this. Great piece overall!
DeleteI really like you writing. Your brother joe sounds like a really nice person, teaching you things like how to defend yourself and teaching you about basketball. You should be super happy to have someone like your brother joe in your life.
DeleteI look up to Micheal Oher. He was born into a ruff family and neighborhood. When he was young he was seperated from his his family because it wasnt a good envierment. He was at one piont homeless. Then a family took him in and turned his life around. He started playing football and worked with a tutor to keep his grades up. He was a star lineman in football. No mater what people would say he would keep working to get better. He went to play for Ole Miss in college and win a championship in the NFL.
ReplyDeleteMicheal Oher was an amazing inspiration the world. He never backed done and worked for what he wanted. He should inspire people to never back done and always work hard.
DeleteB.J. (AKA: Shrimp) has taught me a valuable lesson. His experience is about being small because he calls himself a pygmy, which means a small person, he says, “I am considered vulnerable, which makes me an easy target for anybody who wants to dump their sorrow or depression on someone else.” I’ve been very small for a while and I’m currently 13 years of age. The lesson is to accept yourself for who you are, not your appearance and I accept myself for who I am, and not my appearance, even though I am small. His value is acceptance. The plus of being small is that I can go through small places that others might not be able to.
ReplyDeleteI think B.J is worthy of admiration because he was able to achieve something that is very difficult to achieve nowadays due to the increasing in bullying. That is self acceptance. For him to be able to accept himself with so many people looking down on him and making fun of him is very admirable.
DeleteKevin,
DeleteI think B.J. (AKA: Shrimp) is worthy of admiration because he has had experience with having problems, and you explained that very well. He told his story with confidence in the end, and realize that its not all that bad to be small. So, he is admirable because he overcame his problems and moved forward.
